BTW, one detail I don't think you've covered.

His optic blasts shouldn't affect more than the front enemy in simul. That goes for his hypers, too; the other char in the team should be safe behind while his partner just gets hit.

I'm not sure how accurate that is... Cyclops' beams are pretty hardcore...

when you first go to mugenguild.com, you get a front page with links on the bottom to some creator's sites and the newest threads on the right side, the news on the left side, and the link to the main page on top. This is known.

I think the fact that elecbyte came back and made a new mugen is definitely worthy of the front page news area. As it stands, the only way you can see it is in that tiny little bar under the MFG logo, and it might not even be loaded this time. Or in the new posts section. Which may or may not register in your head, you might not read, might not believe etc.

For people like me who often head in just to see if anything's new and then leave, they will very easily miss this piece of very big news. Just seems like common sense to me. What else is that "news: nothing... much" for? lol

Re: Elecbyte is back? New version of M.U.G.E.N. released...

September 25, 2009, 10:52:27 am View in topic context

I just read this.

Oh snap.

I think this was an ohsnap moment for anybody when they first saw that Elecbyte, the legendary unknown undead guy that no1 ever expected to see again cuz he made a program and then perma-headdesked, came back.

I think I would need a bit more info before playing this though. Skimming through the pages it sounds like this version of Mugen takes up way more RAM then the last one. As I can barely run the last one smoothly on my computer, I can't imagine why i'd want a fighting game that's a slideshow. unless the resource requirements are the same I'm gonna be stuck with the older version, like anyone else with old PCs, and that's a definite.

Still very cool that he came back and is being all Mugen support-o though.

when debug keys are turned on, hitting space seems to fill both players life bars and energy bars entirely. thats in any mode.
maybe you could always just hit space after every match.

After doing what gamespy said you have to be absolutely sure you order them correctly.

for example, your select def could look like this:
Quote
;("arcade.maxmatches = 4,4,1,0,0,0" is the first 4 is 4 guys you will fight at order 1, the second 4 is  4 guys you will fight with order 2, and the 1 guy u will fight of order 3. all of these 4 have no order set and are thus considered order=1. )

spiderman
Capamerica
Superman
Batman

;(these 4 are order 2 and are thus 'sub-bosses', you will not figt them until after the first 4 normal fights)

venom, stages/thespidersweb.def, order=2
redskull, stages/whitehouse.def, order=2
zorel, stages/krypton.def, order=2
twoface, stages/pawgotham.def, order=2

;(finally you will only fight 1 person set to order 3, no matter how many you have.)

carnage, stages/thespidersweb.def, order=3
galactus, stages/whitehouse.def, order=3
luthor, stages/krypton.def, order=3
joker, stages/pawgotham.def, order=3

...(unless you edited any other file)...

this sparked in my memory one of the things i had changed in the config file shortly before noticing the error for the first time,

[Arcade]
;Set to 0 for computer to choose color 1 if possible.
;Set to 1 for computer to randomly choose a color.
AI.RandomColor = 1

I had changed it to 0 so I could see the costumes I recognized more often. Changing it back to 1 seems to have eliminated the problem. I am still confused as to how and why this is though, especially since I would greatly prefer the main costume all the time over randomly colored costumes.

Problem solved though it seems, now i can play mugen again, yay. lol

Again, I don't think it's the characters, the mugen log tells me the last one to load that it crashed on and it seems to be a different one every time, and I've had all those character work numerous times before.

I looked through my select file and I couldn't find any flaws, but maybe I missed something.
it's not very long I only have about 40 some characters:

the default screenpack. The select def? The part that confuses me the most about this error is it's not 100%. Sometimes the error happens right away and other times it happens in the middle of a survival game 5 rounds in, and I guess my legalistic ways make it tough for my mind to wrap around that.

is there any easy way to change midi files to Ogg? maybe just renaming it? Lol

not sure what's causing this. I've used different stages and still the same problem, and i'm relatively sure it's not a specific character because the log tells me what the last character to load was and I removed him from the list, still giving the same error.

It also doesn't actually shut down when you click OK on the error, it just rolls all of mugen up into a scroll basically for lack of a better word and then the only way I can shut it down is with the task manager. I usually can't play for more then ten minutes in survival mode before this happens. It always happens during a loading screen. I was curious if anyone has seen this before and might know how to fix it, or at least have some suggestions on what might be wrong.

Also on a side-note I tried adding BGM music to the title/vs/select screens through the system file (after the crashing problem) and the music doesn't play most of the time, but does sometimes. Is this a common problem that's solvable or am I just without music for the title? lol   8)

He created a character. that makes him a 'creator' regardless of your meaningless opinion. I find more and more people on this site that I dislike.

Low res screenpack on high res mugen.  You'll have to edit it yourself if you want it to work with mugen plus.

well crap. that's lame then. How come I never heard of low-res screenpacks before? Shouldn't that be in some faq SOMEWHERE? Heck they don't even say lo or hi res when you download them.

the fact that anyone would consider not making him a contributer status is very stupid. (assuming you reach contributer status by creating/posting mugen work)

He did create a character for mugen. it did take time and effort.

just because you dont like that character, you dont like the way it plays, or you dont like where it comes from etc, that doesn't mean it's NOT a character. If someone uploads a pokemon character and 95% of the forum hates pokemon, does that mean he didn't contribute? that other 5% are still going to appreciate the creation and it still contributes. I'm sure there are lots of people out there that would enjoy this creation. Whether or not *you* think it's 'good enough' is pointless as to whether or not it's a contribution to the forum.

It still took time to make, works successfuly, and is a character, that many people will enjoy. just because it is not written in a style that ALL people appreciate doesn't make it any less of a character.

No, I do not believe this is the problem. I tried messing with that and it changed the size of my character faces but not the size of my screen.

so that things make more sense, I have a picture of what my thingie looks like: (its a big pic, 800x600)

I just popped in my first screenpack and lo and behold I have a strange and unusual problem I run into with it. Always seems to happen, amiright? I didn't see any mentions of it in the general faqs, so i figured i'd make a thread about it.

It's pretty simple really.
When I go to the select screen, all the character boxes and stuff are about 1/4 or 1/5 the size they should be, up in the top left corner of the screen. The rest of the 'background' (i believe) still seems to cover the rest of the screen. But besides looking retarded, it's really hard to see the tiny character avatars to be able to tell where a character is without putting my select box on them.

I saw a picture of the screenpack, so it must work for other people. 0.o
What can i do to fix it?

I can't say I know for sure why that is happening.
But i can tell you 2 ways you can probably fix that.

the first one is to check your .def file and see where it is looking for the .air and .cns files. Maybe the ones that do NOT have a folder have a def file telling it to look into a folder. when it can't find the folder it messes up.

the second way you can try to fix that, is simply make a folder and put the CNS and AIR files in it. then you can either try it like that or open up ur def file and make sure its looking for the .air and .cns files inside that folder.
it won't fix the glitch, but it will get around the problem. probably.

i've got like 200 characters or something and i can basically beat all of them. there's only like a few new characters i've downloaded that i haven't gotten around to turning to easy mode or whatever i have to do to make them defeatable for me, and YET... Everytime I play survival mode I can at best go about 4-6 fights without running into one of these characters. I mean there can't even be a dozen guys like that. And yet somehow out of a mass amount of characters, everytime I go in i run into one of these guys super early on in the survival. then i feel totally jipped.

wtf is up with that. some 'random' selecting AI that is. lol.
