No... why did he set the blog to private? I enjoyed watching his/her spritework. :(

Just looking at her sprites, I can see she has new intros, a Kamehameha like supermove, one of Fei Long supermoves (not specials), new sprites for parry.

Her projectiles are slightly bigger but not as spammable as before. I think that's Vegeta's Galac Gun, new grapples on ground and air. Her sprites had a little work done as well because she's shaded a bit differently now. That AI file in the onedrive makes her VERY brutal, just thought I'd give a heads up should anyone try that. I have her AI set to max and watched a few fights to see her rip some fighters in half lol. I should try fighting her myself.

Mugen Team and Tournament Community Thread

Back in the days, Tournaments were often held and teams often went and compete. Whatever happened to those days? Im talking about 2005-2009 then it sorta stopped....Now when a tournament is held it's mainly just self-held tournaments with no guests or supporters. Dishamonpow held a tourney and i have too atleast twice. Then we have Mugen teams which were greatly known throughout youtube like Moochi's bizarre Brigade as a great example. All of these great Mugen characters are still around and so many new ones are made almost every month. So Im hoping to revive Mugen Teams and Tournaments It's not absolutely necessary but it's mainly for fun and can be competitive for those who see it as so.

A Mugen Team can consist of any group of characters. It doesn't have to make sense it's mainly for fun or those characters fight well together. Be creative or stick to a series like DBZ or King of Fighter characters. Your team your choice. Just don't go for god characters or characters who just nuke each other....

Mugen Tournaments are made for singles or teams for a chance to win it all! Build, plan or compete in others so your team becomes #1 ! in another Mugenites roster! It's often very challenging for competitors especially against those who seek to become champions as well.

Build a team or tournament and name it.

Boss rush

Due to Mugen 1.1 being out teams can fight together against popular bosses. Many made by Darkruler and Omegapsycho.

Survival

Let your team test their might and tactics *even if your controlling them* to fight your roster and see how much you accomplish.

Challenge

Challenge other teams or make your own *like MugenLord does* to see what obstacles can be accomplished or what obstacles still stand in your way and even possibly others.

The reason why I've made this thread is....after playing Mugen atleast every week and watching videos on it for the past......9 years. It's still exciting as more characters and stages, heck even screenpacks get released. You'd think I'd be bored of Mugen by now but it hasn't yet and with all the new things we have for Mugen now teams and tournaments can seem to be more exciting.

Sephiroth has been updated 5 days ago what are included is as follows:

AI updated- He now has a counter move and WILL use it quite frequently. Also seems to chain a little more than his previous version.
New moves: as i mentioned he has a counter move and if you want to see the rest, well why ruin the surprise? Go and get him.
Fixed: some of his basics seem better now in my opinion, before then the sword kept air chopping opponents to death now his Masamune has to make a little more contact before it happens. As far as i saw that seemed like that was it.

Currently working on her right now. Her design will be that of Blonde Hair, dark pink skirt, red tail and a blue shirt/bra *haven't decided*. Ryon has been giving me some useful feedback throughout the day but now he's off and im still working on her. She's very young I'd say 9 years of age but being a Lemuria *i don't know their aging process* probably a tad older or younger. She's not matured anywhere so no breast annnd the end of her tail is her butt...strange huh? Well i wanted to go with a slightly different form. I can get her shoulders drawn but it's been too long since I've drawn an arm or hand lol.

Why a Lemuria? Well she'll be the first to exist in mugen as a full character and i remember seeing lots of them in some RPG games i played back then. Some were all snake but with a humanoid torso while others were humanoid except for the face. Not many have a human torso and a snake's lower half. She can paralyze foes with her bite, she does have snake fangs along with regular human teeth. She has a snake tongue and a acid sac underneath of it but due to her age she isn't able to produce much maybe up to 4 ounces a day but then runs out. She's not able to eat meat yet but can ingest grains, fruits and vegetables since those are easy on her developing stomach. Well that's all i can say about her this will be the first base sprite i hope i can get very far with this character and your help will be very appreciated!

I enjoy watching/playing it a lot right now and im gonna have even more fun making characters! Mugen will never be dull to me. 5 years ago i noticed a major thrive for Mugen Teams everybody was making them and showing them off, wonder what happened there? Im sure if someone brings back Mugen Team communities it'll make Mugen more enjoyable for pros and rookies. I STILL like showing off my 8 teams, because the thought of making them gives me the satisfaction of accomplishment.

This is where you have to learn how to work with lines and curves in a computer interface.

I've done my share of tracing, but I did the bulk of my learning without it.
Take an image and break it down into smaller images. See what kinds of line you want/have to use ( l, S, C, 0, O, N, 3, J) and use that to make the image.

Shading is another topic entirely (and something I'm not that good at). I'm doing hi-res too for the most part (although I pretty much practice with anything).

I should start posing some of the sprites and animations I've done...
I think I can come up with something in about an hour.

Well that sure worked out didn't it? :P

I suggest making your own graphics thread... people can give you more/better feedback on what you can improve. You can't improve without criticism. :)

Paint.NET might be helpful. It combines the simplicity and ease-of-use of Paint with some more advanced features from Photoshop and the like, like layers and anti-aliasing. And there's a keyboard shortcut for the eyedropper tool!

      Posted: November 28, 2013, 01:26:11 am
and also it's free, so there's that

Both suggestions are VERY good advice thank you! I'll go and make my own thread there after Thanksgiving *can't sprite when holidays are here*! I'll give Paint.NET a try as well who knows maybe I'll make better looking sprites there. Also, yes using letters and words! i completely forgot that! each letter or word has a structure in which some are unique to actually build on or from such as the examples given. man 5 years and it feels like art class all over again *which is good! i like learning*

so layers are pretty much my tracing...how can that be useful when im doing all hand-drawn sprites? Im not going around copying images to trace, im drawing them from my picture in my head.

Yes, color picker is indeed useful but sadly not hard coded in gimp as a simple right-click. Definitely useful when working with a lot of colors. my Lemuria has 8 colors *gonna make her blonde haired* I keep messing up her head but finally nailed the eyes. GraphicsGale will be kept in mind should i try spriting an entire scenery for a stage so thanks for informing me about =)

After drawing for years with Paint, I can say ... HA! exactly what Felo does!
There are certain programs you need for one thing, and others for another thing.

Spoiler: Enter my Toolbox (click to see content)

So, all in all, a spriter doesn't work with Pencil and Paper only, you use different tools for different tasks.

I've drawn, traced, painted, sculpted and built. It's been a while and i mean over 5 years since I've done some good artistic work. Painting and drawing were my two majors. Im still very new to drawing/painting on PC.  I know nothing about layers sadly or even the program your mentioning *GraphicsGale*. I looked at the guides that were given on the first page and saw Anti-aliasing, seems useful but im not sure how to get GIMP to turn it on, when painting on there the colors don't blend too well, so when i go green to blue it stands out too much. I've got a lot to learn still but im still making a few experiment sprites with eyes and head shapes. I'll admit much harder on PC but it's not stopping me, just makes me rethink my approach when trying to get the shape needed to make it look like a head and eyes.

I also thought of trying the other tools to assist me but since i know nothing about them, i thought I'd try and draw or paint the best i could. I got my sprites pictured in my head when spriting but it's not always going to come out the exact way i picture it, so i form it take off a little here and there, shade this and that and before i know it..there it is! I'll try to learn more on the tools and GraphicsGale but im just now getting used to GIMP.

CVS GodRugal by Warusaki3 AI patch from Yuki
Gustab*i fought him my last moments were him LAUGHING in my face just before blowing up Tetsu*
Order Sol by Akutagawa who i managed to get to work in Mugen 1.0
Muteki's Sol Badguy *beat him once so far*
Regin by Pre-to
Yukari by Pre-to

I mostly use Tetsu but i've realized that not even he can keep up with most bosses of today sadly...So i try other characters and try my best at training with them a bit.

I have not even started hi res, I get the feeling that hi res might be esier for guys who have a drawing background, so it might be easier for you, who knows. you are at teh stage where you experiment a lot and get nothing done, that's natural.

Hi-res or not im doing pretty good right now =) I plan to make a Young Lemuria for mugen Spriting as we speak more to come!

hmm...need to make the tail a little more pointy, this is gonna be a girl Lemuria *i was too focused on keeping it smooth*
updated- long transparent skirt added. This is all that will be seen of it. A short Blue skirt will overlap it and from what i recall Blue and Pink are complimentary to each other.

note that those programs are for classic pixel art, if you plan to go higher res gimp or photoshop might be better.

Im still a beginner right now. I'd know nothing about Hi-Res sprites unless someone taught me how to use them. Im still on the basics right now. When i feel that im ready for the higher resolutions I'll ask you or someone else how to make or use it but until then im still learning what i can.
Thanks for the advice Max it is appreciated but i can't learn it all in one day sadly.

I´d heard that some spriters really like to use GraphicsGale cause it handles pixel art very smoothly with its tools. You could try that one.

I'll look at it later. im happy with gimp for now. I need to practice on drawing hands, im really bad at it, even struggled with those on paper at first but i got better each time i tried. Putting gloves or having them covered up eased it a bit but now that im drawing on PC i may struggle with it for a while. It won't stop me though! I'll keep going no matter what, as for well, everything else im decent at it. Feet, eyes, teeth, hair, and faces were a little tough at first but becomes simple afterwards.

most serious spriters will use either promotion, gfxgale , an obscure msdos era spriting program or a heavily customized photoshop/gimp.

im not quite serious about it yet. im still in the learning stages. GIMP seems to have everything i need for painting and drawing so far but i haven't messed with it's magic wand or move options yet. but hey i got the Sword done! What would have taken me half an hour ended up being 4 hours....since my parents kept needing my help today... I call it the Drakkin. I drew it 8 years ago and always kept that drawing, it's original =)

I mostly use this technique right now:

Havea  nice day!

I'll read it laterz. I know how to do it on paper as said before. But it feels as if im starting all over again with the PC. As long as i remember all of the artist tips i was given during my school years i should do fine. But your advice is well appreciated.

Actually, im loving GIMP! Only a few minutes of fixing this...oddity of a rainbow sword and now it looks pretty badass. Also i don't intend on copying sprites...im gonna make my own from scratch. Here I'll post my sword in a second. I remember that green is often needed for shading your gray metals. Green brings out contrast for shading with sharp/smooth objects *not with living things sadly...* You'll see here in a moment.

Wish I could answer that particular question.
I've tried using GIMP... I'm sure it's good, but I couldn't get used to the interface (mainly because I never gave a real effort). I use Paint Shop Pro, but even MSPaint can be good enough.

Individual sprites are easy enough; just use a reference (whether it's a picture of what your drawing or another sprite) and design your pose using the reference. For animations, I manipulate vectors (or make "animation points") and do pixel edits where necessary.

To the second statement, Yeah that's the plan. Make a sprite, copy it, rotate it and recolor/re-shade it. It'll save me some time, also i just got back gonna go download it now. I'll post a few sample sprites to show my progress. I have a single sprite of my sword already made from psp but it's a little blurry, I'll need to fix that while using Gimp.

Downloading now, getting the 2.8 version and...wow  72 megabytes? bigger that psp. i got my fingers crossed for this one.
Got it running, and...whoa! lots of options here! Just dragged my sword sprite there to see what it may look like. still in good condition...lots of white dots that don't belong there and a tiny bit of the background got saved with the sprite??? im fixing this first, also last modify, i type too much :/

I use GIMP to make sprites since 2009, it has special .XCF format that works best for photo/sprite editing, doesnt take much to learn and its easy to use.

I shouldn't ask yet, but im curious enough. *i usually go download first then find out* But how much editing can gimp allow? I would need rotation over objects, duplicating*I'd only use it to speed up simple sprites like standing or make a basic attack since he'll be standing in 1 spot anyways*

First off... I DO know how to draw sprites, but on paper. never learned on a computer but I've wanted to learn. Secondly, Paintshop Pro was NOT the right program for trying to make sprites in. Thirdly, When i took a graphics design class in High School, the teacher knew nothing about the subject *facepalms* so...me and 23 other students just earned free A's throughout the first 2 semesters. I was sad because i wanted to learn it pretty badly.

So now i ask you the Mugen Guild users. Is Photoshop easier and better for creating Mugen character and stage sprites in? Yes, I need a suggestion, I tried it on my own and each program i went and tried just ended up getting deleted. I have noone to teach me how to draw on a computer so it's gonna be a self-learning process for me.  Im creative, I've drawn so many anime characters and lots of beautiful scenery before, but on paper or canvas. I know my shading, contrasts, Lighting effects and most importantly motion for sprites and i can apply all of this with the right paint/spriting program. I've heard good things about Photoshop, but yet i can say the same about 12 other programs i tried and never got the options i needed for making/customizing the sprites my way.

I learned as much as i could about coding*though it still seems too advanced for me* Im going to try it the best i can. Even found a guide on making AI for characters. I gotta admit it's really good, i could go edit some characters and maybe improve the AI but it'd take me hours to do, so i decided my characters only *or characters of interest and there's none right now*

What I've tried so far is... I made a standing sprite for a little stick figure, just trying to get a grasp on spriting for mugen. It worked but Paintshop pro effed it up after saving it. The pixels were BLURRY and colors were added to it *seriously the thing is white and black how'd it get a freaking rainbow to appear on it?* I can't select objects to rotate them....just the entire image...The eraser on this program sucks... i want it GONE not faded whenever i mess up on a line or while coloring.  When i load a saved image that i drew back onto PSP *paintshop pro* it gives it a black or white background...that i need deleted.

So Mugenites...any advice..any at all? Because i learned something about a week ago....don't go jumping into something you have no knowledge of. Your going to make mistakes and those mistakes....cost you your SANITY! or effort, let's go with that.

Sword's current details done. Hilt need a little touch up and i'll start making mah sprites =)
