Great work. Funny how one fan can do all of this... But Capcom with it's millions of dollars can't hire a company to redraw graphics. *cough* Third Strike Online Edition *cough*

It's about time someone tried putting together a soundfont full of this fun stuff.

But, I don't think it should be just one total soundfont that encompasses "everything."  CPS2 has a lot of games, each with their own kinds of unique sets of instruments leading to a particular style of sound to each game.  Meshing them all together into one soundfont is gonna end up like Setzer's SPC Soundfont, or the Ultimate Mega Drive Soundfont.  Which are mostly just cherry-picked favorite instruments that have no real cohesion to the sound they give out (for us purists anyway).

So, I wouldn't call it a CPS2 soundfont.  Something more like...  How about "The Capcom QSoundfont"?  I'd split it up into several soundfonts, because of sound palettes that change between games, if that makes any sense.  Like, let's say...  The soundfont that features a lot of Marvel vs. series instruments also includes instruments from the likes of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Warzard, Star Gladiator, Strider 2 and such, since they draw from the same kind of instrument palette in this case.

But as far as issues with the soundfont itself, go...  This is from FL Studio's soundfont player, but here:

- Instruments 1, 20 (should be Organ 3), 34, and 37 are all missing loop points.
- Instrument 12...  You should really sample that one from the games rather than the high quality version there.
- Instrument 46 needs to be pitch tuned up by 40 cents.
- For accuracy's sake, allow Instrument 49 the full range of octaves.
- Instrument 53 needs to be pitch tuned down by 40 cents.
- Instrument 56, I'd just have the orchestra hit once and have it panned in the center.
- Instrument 62 stands as a bit of the issue I was describing above.  It's clearly of a different sound palette and sounds really ugly compared to the rest of the sounds.  Only way to fix this is with some EQ work.
- Instrument 64 probably shouldn't pan out how it does with looping.
- Instrument 91 has some issues looping.
Thanks for the input man. However, this soundfont is meant to be like Setzer's SPC Soundfont or The Ultimate Megadrive soundfont. But I do plan on making soundfonts for specific CPS2 games. For instance, I'm currently working on a soundfont for Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters.

But yes; thanks for reporting those errors. A new version of CPS2SF with most of those things fixed; will be coming out soon.

Coming from someone who doesn't really have any experience with midis, what would be the best program (hopefully free) to apply this to already existing midi files?

I use TiMidity.

And this sound font is going to need a lot more work... some MIDIs just sound completely off-key in this. I'll try linking the offenders if it helps out.
Thanks for the critique man. It would definitely help improve the soundfont if you posted the offenders.

Hey, Yang here. It's been a while since I posted a new song. But I recently came up with an idea for a song when I was fooling around with Reaper. I would describe as a techno dance song.

Hey, Yang here and I composed a new 90's style electro/dance track. It sounds like something that you might hear in a late 90's platforming game. Nothing particularly inspired this track, it just popped in my mind randomly while at work really.

But yeah, you can listen to it here:

Hi, Yang here, with my monthly composition. This time I decided to write a battle theme that was inspired by the works of Hitoshi Sakimoto, best known for his works in Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics.

Your composition is amazing bro.
What do you use to create your songs?
Well I basically first create a midi file in Anvil Studio. After that, I put the midi through soundfonts and VSTs.

Hi, Yang here with the monthly new song. This time the song is "Love Connection". It's a song that was heavily inspired by "Two-Mix" and will probably remind you of something you might here in Gundam Wing. It's 4 minutes long and it's a full length song.

Yang here, with another new song. This time it's a song called "Hero". It's a techno dance track, mostly inspired by the music in 90's racing games, such as Sonic R. You can listen to it at the link below:

Hey, Yang aka Magnius here. I recently finished this battle theme request for Devastata. I'd best describe it as Guilty Gear-esque instrumental metal. Infact, the music in Guilty Gear was one of my main inspirations for this song. This version doesn't use real guitars; but if I can find a guitarist to record it, I'll make a version with real guitars.

Anyway, you can listen to it here:

Fighting game idea - New York City Brawl

I had an idea for a fighting game and just wanted to see what people think.

Story:
The game stars Jim K. Takihara. He was an African-American child who was found in the woods of Tokyo. As far as he knows, his original parents were killed. He was adopted my Shiyoto Takihara, the sensei of the Takihara Dojo. For all of his life, he studied the Kikan style of martial arts and after 18 years, he's become a master at it.

But as he got older, he started to ask his sensei, why did he look different than everyone else? The sensei replied "You are not from around here". The sensei then told Jim that he was found abandoned in the woods. Jim then tried to figure out who his real parents were.

After about a year of searching, one person came forward. "You look just like him", that person said. Turns out Jim's father was on business in Japan and he was murdered by a notorious street gang. The news was actually quite popular in Japan. After that, the gang leader was arrested and never seen again.

But Jim later learns that, the gang leader, who killed his father, had fleed to America to do crime. Apparently the gang leader had worked his way up to the high ranks of a New York gang. They were called the "Ankoku no ryuu" or "Dark Dragons".

A year later, he arrives in New York City and learns of the "New York Anything Goes" tournament, apparently sponsored by the same gang. While in America, Jim participated in many fighting tournaments and only lost in the last one. He was beat by Guy Jones, a fellow who studies of a variation of the Kikan karate.

Jim then enters the "Anything Goes" tournament; to find his father's killer.

Characters:
Jim K. Takihara
Description: A user of the Kikan style of martial arts. He stands tall at 6'0 and has a very slim build. He sports a very large Afro.
Style: Kikan karate

Guy O'Donnell
Description: A Kikan user of Irish decent. He decided to take up Kikan karate after watching his childhood hero, Kim Lee's movies. Ever since then he's been competing in karate tournaments. He just see's this one as another challenge.

Jessica Taylor
Description: The daughter of one of the world's most famed boxing champions. When her father lost of the boxing heavyweight championship, people lost faith in "Boxing". Taylor enters the championship to prove that "Boxing" is still the number one style.

Francesco Costello
Description: A former member of the Mafia, before the Ankoku's took over. He plans to join the tournament, in order to kick the Ankoku's out, so that the Mafia regains control.
Style: Streetfighting.

Jack "The Bear" Kennedy
Description: A wrestler who wears a bear mask. He believes that when wearing the Bear mask, he can unleash his true potential as a wrestler. He enters into the tournament to prove once and for all, that his wrestling style cannot be defeated.

Those are all the characters so far. They're very much WIP.

A. How do I make a jump button?
I'm having a hard time doing this. No matter what I edit, up is STILL the jump button.

B. Alright say I want to make it so that, if a player hits the opponent two times, then the third hit will go into a combo, with a different animation?

Basically how would I do something like, if player hits two times then on the third hit, trigger another state with a different animation? I was also want to know how to make the 4th and 5th hit have different animations.

C. How would I go about doing vertical, side scrolling like movement?
