The reason I like the hitboxes tighter is because of how different every character is. I can visualize an instance where Dhalsim could FK that chunk of air at the last frame of the raise animation. With my hitboxes, he'd wiff. Sure it wouldnt happen everytime, but that's what makes mugen exciting. Is he close enough this time? With 3, it doesnt really matter as much. When hitboxes are "default" I feel you lose the personality of the character somewhat.

JNP, thanks for the offer, but honestly, Mugen's better than Capcom. Or it can be.  I feel after playing SFIV and SFxT that Capcom's hitboxes are lazy. Almost all of the hitboxes are from Slenderman's character.  I'm not saying this character is better than every or any other Capcom character. I'm saying Capcom's hitboxes could be better.
I get most people want to have Capcom style characters in Mugen. I love the way Capcom's style is. I just dont understand why people want game accurate characters in their Mugen.

That shows off how much better Capcom's hitboxes could be. His kick doesnt come from his head, so why does the attack box extend from his wife's head? There should be 3 smaller boxes following the path from his hip.

I've seen a few months where the same author is nominated for 3-4 characters which play style and gameplay were not very different from the other. To me things like this make COTM look not as deserving a reward as it should be. It shows just throwing more quantity then quality is a good thing, which it isn't and shouldn't be.
