Been a while since i posted but ive been making slow progress with the not-so-flashy parts of the template.

Last night i started working on the Defense increase when the health is low trying my best to emulate ssfiv with crappy defensemul and life add but im having a problem on the last hit, i cant figure out the way for the life add to work properly and not prevent death. Damn that defensemul.

Ill try and work on damage dampener these days emulating ssfiv too where its move based instead of hit based.

Also finished standing basic attacks with cvsish push properties but damage and power values from ssfiv. Juggle will probably be my next pain in the ass as ive never coded one properly.

Oh, i changed most of the system effects as well and reworked the pallette so that those black-red effects can be edited into different colors later on. Black and purple look particularly cool.

Ive been working on organizing a lot of stuff cus the guy was a mess.

Sorted the files,
started working on new system effects,
removed old AI codes,
removed roll dodges, roll guard and zero counter.
Edited his voice to a better volume, sadly its kinda pitchy now but thats unavoidable i guess
Added intro, winpose, winquotes and taunt
Removed Misogi (will probably use it as an intro only)

etc

As for his abilities ive been thinking long and hard about what to use so here is a draft of whats in my head so far (excuse lack of accurate names):

Specials:

Hadouken
Shoryuuken
Tatsu
Axe Kick
Air Hadouken (not sure if straight or downwards yet)
Air Tatsu

Ex:

All the above, havent figured properties of all yet but Axe kick will be an overhead and ground hadouken will be denjin chargable

Supers:
LVL1 Shinku hadouken (thinking of regular or going for the Beam i showed as lvl3 earlier) both air and ground
LVL1 Shinku Tatsu
LVL2 Shin Shoryuuken (not sure if i should go for something electric or something like sfiv from regular ryu, i plan on doin some research on those ink effects, maybe hteres a way to make them cuz electric has been done a lot already).
LVL3 Raging Demon
LVL3 Beam Hadouken (might end up a being lvl1 like in mvc3 or just the ultra version so i dont end up with 3 hadouken super/ultras)

Ultras:
Ultra Hadouken (really struggling with either something like Oni´s ultra or just the big beam)
Ultra shoryuuken from SSFIV (im probably gonna use a shin shoryuuken startup instead of the triple shoryuu)

vyn, so, you have not artworks for different ports?
There is my ideas:
-Your port is awesome, so let him be LVL 3 port.
-For LvL 2 port, i thimk, you can use this one:
-After slighty hack (just delete ripped parts of backward, repaint hair and invert) this can be LVL 1 port.

With ultra's port I still can help. But you can use original portrait from SSF4:AE.

i have tons of pictures, certainly everything a google search can give, those included.

this is exactly what i mean. If i were to use these examples there are a number of problems.

-the first picture would require way too much work to be usable because of all the layers of effects on it
-my portraits appear from the side so they need to give the impression of moving and looking sideways, like in the VS games.
-art style doesnt match, one is ssfiv and the other is cvs so they dont look good together, there is no sequence.
-once the second picture is only one color its no longer clear that is evil ryu, will look like regular ryu.
-first picture will look really bad when its only one color, this one is based on my experience

So bottom line: just because an artwork looks really awesome doesnt mean its usable.

As i said before i would be willing to use different portraits if they had a sequence like same expression in all three but the mouth closed on the first and fully opened in the last but its hard enough to find one picture with none of the above problems, let alone a whole sequence of 4.

Of course you can use anything you find in the MFG SF project. If tou want you can use the current kaze no ken as a filler till its fixed. If Felo can't fix it I have judas on backlog to commission fixing the focus.

Would you be willing to try a different E.Ryu render for each level? I mean like having different portraits for the level 2 and 3 supers

ive tried it before but it doesnt look as good, if they made sense with each other then i would consider it but thats hard to find and a lot more work.

Alternate artwork for each level? That always looked super tacky to me. :/

would depend on the work but some attempts ive seen dont really work.

I have to agree with Hoshi. I think the way it is done currently looks really nice, varied but still cohesive. A bunch of different images might break that cohesiveness.

im double posting cuz the last post was huge but i think i answered to everyone.

i finally made his super portraits into the new evil ryu art, also i changed lvl2 supers theme from purple to red. some screens.



as for the ultra im considering to use the fully colored image and some multicolor effects, all i have so far is the portrait with lvl 3 sparks but i think it looks cool

Will this character have an option to disable power charge I'm trying to put together a game with character who do not use such methods in battle.

Honestly i find parrying to be a much better tool than focus attack,cause you can parry multiple attacks and essentially get out of almost every situation if you are good enough with it. But with that being said, personally im glad you chose to put in focus attack cause its not a mechanic alot of chars use.

is that the edits i saw in your Ryu wip?? i tried downloading the .sff to see the edits but the file wont work, any chance i could get some of dat .sff??

Those flames looking very dope indeed, will they fade away. If not maybe start to flow when he reaches a breaking point. Like about to die or about to pull a super lv2 or lv3. just food for thought, keep up the hard work.

That Kaze no Ken is very good!

 But that E. Ryu stance are not "confortable" to my eyes. Should be the to large neck... and the stance no so "karate-ish"

About gameplay: I don't like focus attack at all in mugen. Keep zero counter, much more fun.

I also would say: keep EX moves, rolls, power charging and different level of supers. No chaining or other "VS" stile kind of things.

Also: do you plan to add his ULTRA supers?

So far ive decided for ex moves, 3 levels of supers, a little chaining and yes Ultras based on damage taken based on SFIV, i have something cool planned for this but i have to see if i can even code it.

Add red focus attack for the USFIV plebs.

ill probably add a mix of both focus attacks

If you're interested, I modified one of the custom sprites POTS made to be more source accurate.
That one being the spikey Hadouken sprite from SF3.

I'm a bit behind on the news, but welcome back vyn. I see you got your posts back and contributor star, now that I know it's really you. :)

As for the focus attack, I suggest you keep it. I yet too have any characters with very good coded focus attacks as yours. Plus, it helps a lot when you're at a disadvantage.

ok ill keep focus attack, i guess that means zero counter and parry are gone. not sure what sprites im gonna use for that, evil ryu focus attack from sfiv is pretty wild but the sprites in cvs are so stiff.

is it possible to see in this Ryu Hadou Combo? like your old Savage Ryu  I loved that attack.

i dont think ill have it in this version but he has axe kick and misogi which are pretty cool too but ill keep it in mind, i promise.

Is focus useful in mugenz? i get the fact that not many characters have it but since mugen is plagued with multihit super fast attacks, a one hit absorb just doesnt seem useful. I for one dont really use it.

Nice to see you back on the game Vyn. I still have your rock & terry as my favs. How you managed to use Mugen ? Didn't you use some OS that couldn't run it and that's why you left ?

And do you have any other plans besides finishing this Ryu ? Anyway welcome back (well you never truly keft but still...).

no plans besides Ryu at the moment, i did have a mac for some time and then i got kinda burned out of mugen but its fun again with all the new games out there since last time i worked.

Only I think that Misoni on older screen looks better?
But I'll know- I'm not only one who thin that this Ryu will be awesome!
But don't delete old Misogi sprites from Ryu, plz...

If you mean the ryu sprites they are the same, just different frames. Its all there if you wish to use them for something once they are released.

This character is gonna be amazing! On another note i think he should have the same mechanics as your Violent Ken, good luck on your character and great to see ya back!

As far as mechanics go, Zero Counters, Parry and Focus Attack share the same goal (guarding an attack and counter attacking). Would probably be best if you kept only one among these three.

Worked a lot on him this weekend, sound is 50% sfiv so far and added a few moves, here are the screens, they aint finished yet but good enough for a screenshot. Mwryly did a great job on those axe kick sprites.

Im trying to figure out what system gimmicks to use. My last characters had a ton of stuff like custom combo, parry, focus attack, zero counter, super jump, roll recovery, etc. since im pretty much remaking my template with this guy to something more simple id like to hear some ideas.

So far i think im gonna keep roll recovery and use sfiv revenge mechanics for ultras.

The upper body of the stance looks very okay. The shoulders look too wide. Additionally, the reversing the lower body doesn't offer a very good centre of balance.

shoulders do seem wide by themselves but i think they look good during transitions (which are the key to make custom stances work IMO), ill post some of those so u guys can see,
legs are a bit awkward indeed although ive always considered the regular stance weird too with the knees pointing one side and the head facing the other but ill try to work it a bit more. I do suck at spriting though.

As far as the voice goes, I think the English one sounds more ... gruff I guess would be the word, if it gets  to the point where enough people request it, I would be happy to patch the sound file for you, I've had the voice clips sitting in a folder on my desktop for ages and never really got around to using them ...

Also, any plans on making the HCF+K move part of his move set?

The character i never finished and hope to finish now years after i started him, he was a test dummy for a lot of coding and effect stuff and with so much work put into him he deserves to see the daylight someday, a couple of screens and the custom stance the great IMT spriters helped me with.



And yes he is the evil version.

DC Universe Online

Not a bad effort, gameplay is very clunky, especially for ranged weapons, some powers are very fun (gadgets and lantern are my fav), the pvp server is annoying but a very interesting concept nevertheless. Ive always been a fa sucker character creation (the very reason i came to mugen) and boy this game delivers, ive spent hours making and remaking my characters. i love that. Wish d3 had it :(.

i really need to beat Black ops 1 story mode one of these days... as for multiplayer i hope a couple of fictional weapons make the cut, no laser beams of course but it would be a great bone for the devs.
