Looks great. Are you open for commissions? I need someone to do portraits for my SF project, and your work is great. If interested, I'll PM you details.
I don't typically do commissions, but if it sounds interesting maybe I could be coerced into it. Let me know what you have in mind.

Small update I guess, I drew a new version of Yuen Long.

I didn't really put any effort into his outfit, I primarily wanted to practice anatomy and drawing different body types... I want to make sure each character has a distinctive silhouette so they don't feel so generic. Same thing with more unique faces and hairstyles. The design certainly needs work still, but I'm quite happy with how his face and physique turned out.

It's kind of funny you should say that, I hadn't thought of it but I think it neatly sums up why I'm so much happier with this new version. He's a lot tougher and makes the older versions look a bit like a kid in comparison. :)

Black Hatter: I respectfully think you're kind of nuts and I completely disagree, but I highly appreciate the comments and kind words nonetheless :)

edit: sorry if that came off as flippant. I genuinely appreciate all comments!

Here's a new look for one of the first characters I ever drew for my project (some years ago now), Niklas.

Although I had originally thought of him as the main character, over time I started growing really bored with his design. He was just too plain and there wasn't really anything to him. I gave it some thought and tried to give him a more unique body type, as well as some sort of heavy metal-like makeover... I felt like he needed some kind of personality (or at least gimmick) very badly, and this felt appropriate (or at least appropriately silly) for a Swedish character. I still don't have a much clearer idea of how he should fight, but I at least have some idea of who he is, and that alone makes me a lot more fond of the character than I ever was before.

I think anatomically it makes sense considering her posture, the armour just kind of obscures the position of her shoulders and collarbones making the neck look longer than it is. It bothers me a bit how her chin lines up with the top of the collar as well though... the proportions could certainly be tweaked a bit.

Thanks for the comments.

Felt like drawing for a bit after work today so I drew a new revision of Ariel. Going for more of a scifi/cyberpunk vibe, and trying to bring elements of older concepts together into something more cohesive. Not perfect by any means but I'm a lot happier with this version than with previous attempts.

Thanks for the comments.

City_Hunter: I never considered any of my previous designs finished, so yes I intend to make revisions to most if not all of them. Some characters/designs I'm not really happy with at all so I'll probably end up taking them in pretty different directions. Generally speaking I wasn't satisfied with how plain and generic most of the designs/concepts were so I'm trying to incorporate some ideas on how to make them more interesting.

Haven't had time to draw much recently, but I still managed to fall behind on posting here I guess. :/

I drew a male and female rogue. Going for kind of an Arabian motif.

Also did a male paladin. Drawing armor is definitely outside my comfort zone, so it was a real struggle. Still, I'm pretty happy with the result. (his big head bothers me though :/)

On a different note, here is something that some of you may find more interesting. Lately I've felt more inspired to revisit my fighting game project, trying to flesh out some ideas and concepts I wasn't entirely happy with. Here's a new and improved version of Milon. Not necessarily "final", but I feel it's closer to my original vision than my previous attempt.

Thanks for all the kind words! I tried to get some kind of daily sketch thing started with the RPG-style character, but of course I ended up being too busy for that as well... -_-

FeLo: I didn't forget about it, just had too many other things to deal with lately to look into it more myself :/ I'm excited to see what you come up with though!

*sigh* been very busy with work and other things for the last month or two but finally found a little time to draw again recently.

For some reason I compelled to draw some typical fantasy RPG type characters... first up is the (male and female) Barbarian.

Adon is still in CPS scale which makes him look completely disproportionate. Especially with his legs spread at almost a 90 degree angle, it makes it painfully obvious that one leg is much longer than the other!

On the far right I've crudely resized the sprite to 74% width, notice how it makes his legs much closer to the same size.

If you're using Photoshop, there's no need to bother with multiple files, multiple layers with different blend modes, etc etc. Just open the Channels window (Window menu -> Channels, it appears as a tab on the Layers window by default) and simply paste each of the greyscale images into their corresponding Colour Channel. Click the New Channel button at the bottom of the window to add an Alpha Channel, and paste the Alpha image there. Done.

83% gets it from 384 to 320 in width and is what CvS2 and CFJ use for the SFA and DS characters.
That doesn't sound right. 320/384 is about 83%, yes, but it doesn't account for the difference in height (384x224 vs 320x240) and thus overall proportion. If you're saying that's how they scaled the sprites in the CVS games, I don't have any reason to disbelieve you, but it sure sounds weird.

The issue with Karin is not "fat legs", the entire sprite is scaled incorrectly. First off, any CPS sprite needs to be scaled by 78% or so in width to look right in 4:3/square pixel proportions, and even then I'm not sure the overall scale quite matches, she might need to be a little bit bigger to match the proper cvs scale.

I guess a lot of people have trouble seeing how weird fat CPS sprites look with square pixels, so if you find yourself having any trouble seeing the difference between CPS and cvs sprites (basically, if you think CPS sprites look fine and totally normal on your computer screen), just rotate any CPS sprite by 90 degrees and hopefully the difference should be clear. If you're still having trouble, rotate a sprite of your character knocked down and compare it to a sprite of them standing up straight, and it should become painfully clear :P

Unless the images are saved with a custom pixel aspect ratio embedded, of course they would be.  It's not supported by all image formats, and I don't think I've ever encountered it in any ripped sprites.

If this is meant to be done in proper CPS style, don't forget to account for the wide aspect ratio. When adjusted to the correct width, his proportions look downright bizarre.

I actually like his slim physique, and his head looks just right, but his feet look gargantuan (especially his right), and the hands are pretty huge too. I'd probably make his shoulders a littler wider, for that matter.
