Hi everybody.  :D
 I was thinking of making a 2d platfom game using sprites I did. Do you know any engine that is good for creating 2d games?  8) I mean games similar to Mario Bros where you have to collect things and jump platforms. Not only fighting like the beat them up games like Double Dragon.
I was hacked last week so now I'm Dracul_3. I've got a new website and the project is still going on.

lol, I saw the topic and I was just going to post mugen  ::).

Game maker is really good, you can make just about any kind of pc game  you want with it
(i'd even recommend it over mugen for making a fighter game if mugen wasn't easier and didn't have some particular features readily to be used)

Game maker can be used with drag&drop functions, but I'd highly recommend you learn how to code with it. Also if you try it, don't give up early because you can't figure something out and claim that it couldn't do "this" or "that".
If you try it and you get stuck somewhere, they have a forum where people will help you out (and I can help you here as well)

Edit:
The lite version is the free version http://yoyogames.com/gamemaker/windows
The main difference between the lite and standard versions are a few codes/D&D-functions that you can use and tagging on your start-up screen.

Game maker is the best, but BYOND works too. It can be used to do more than the games people have already made for it, trust.

From personal experience Game Maker is the easiest and most powerful option. The alternative to it is Multimedia Fusion 2, but it is a paid program.

@Cazaki
Yes BYOND is good too, but only for overhead-online-rpg games. Sure, it CAN make a platformer game (which is what he wants btw) but that requires some special coding just like it would in mugen, since those aren't the types of games that they're geared to work with.

I sincerely doubt the abilities of BYOND. My brother/cousin tells me that someone made some games that weren't oh-rpg games, but the only ones I'm familiar with like that is a smash bros game and a megaman bn game.
(My doubts come from me spending a decent amount of time in it, till sometime in 2010)

The technology is there but no one really fools with it because there isn't existing coding designed for those kinds of games, so it's all trial and error. You can also apply other coding languages to DM to actually do some unique things with BYOND, but people don't fuck with it enough. The abilities of BYOND isn't the problem as much as the frustration of not having help. A guy made a fighting game on it but he struggled to code alot of basic fighting moves because he didn't have any existing help, like a command grab, or a dive kick.

Of course I won't recommend BYOND though, but it was home to good memories. I played games like Finale, EU and BLN, and the guys there tell me it isn't worth it learning DM.
