I've discoverd some trick here...

Open yuor mugen.cfg and change from this:

  ;Wave device to use. Choose from:
  ; NONE    - No wave device
  ; AUTO    - Autodetect
  ; SB      - SoundBlaster (auto)
  ; SB10    - SoundBlaster 1.0
  ; SB15    - SoundBlaster 1.5
  ; SB20    - SoundBlaster 2.0
  ; SBPRO   - SoundBlaster Pro
  ; SB16    - SoundBlaster 16
  ; GUS     - (not yet supported)
  ; AUDIODRIVE - ESS Audiodrive
WavDevice =AUTO

To this:

  ;Wave device to use. Choose from:
  ; NONE    - No wave device
  ; AUTO    - Autodetect
  ; SB      - SoundBlaster (auto)
  ; SB10    - SoundBlaster 1.0
  ; SB15    - SoundBlaster 1.5
  ; SB20    - SoundBlaster 2.0
  ; SBPRO   - SoundBlaster Pro
  ; SB16    - SoundBlaster 16
  ; GUS     - (not yet supported)
  ; AUDIODRIVE - ESS Audiodrive
WavDevice =SB10

Save your file and run mugen...for me, its worked better than VDM sound

Same here, but I like to tell everyone else, SB15 or SB20 might work better, depending on your sound card. For me, SB15 worked better than SB10/20 for me. So anyone else reading this, might want to trial and error with this.

It depends on your sound blaster. I tried 'SB10' and my mugen would not run.

Also, wouldn't 'auto' help anyway, since it supposedly checks for the best sound blaster setup?

You'd think so but apparently it doesn't...

I had some improvements by switching to SB15, still have some problems but atleast the musics speed seems corrected. The quality still kind of blows though...

Same here. Still sounds like 32/64 Kbps mp3 file but the speed is okay.

Using VDMSound messes up the speed of the inputs. For example, if I use VDMSound, say I hold on to back for 5 seconds. The character walks back. If I let go, the character carries on walking back for another 2 seconds or so before slowing. Commands inputted are delayed and everything is slow, although the speed is fine O_o

Well in XP and ME, Windows media player shouldnt be your main video player, instead use realone player, it completely solves all sound problems.

Advice: test if your CDs play back normally... some sound settings are fine for sounds... excepted for CDs (and maybe MP3s... haven't tested yet).
