Yes I know there's an SF4 thread, but if I posted this in there, prob. not many will vote. My reason for making a separate thread is to allow for those who, although not following the news and updates of SF4, to vote for a character they believe might get them interested in the game.
ATM, Dudley's dominating fortunately (which is better than Sakura, no offense Sakura fanboys) and umm most fans are trying to keep it that way .

I voted Dudley.  You have to think though that most SFIII characters aren't old enough for SFIV.  The whole thing about no SFIII characters made sense after I realized that.  I think Alex is in for sure given that he was already dev'd for CFAS and in CFE

Sakura is old enough, for all we know she could be in college by now, the only ones that really "cant" appear that I can think off are Makoto , Ibuki , Elena, Sean and the brothers.
Then again we dont know how close to sf3 this is.

SF4 is at least 6-10 years before SF3 if SF3 isn't cut, given Ken's SF4 profile mentions Mel has just been born IIRC, and he was old enough to spar a bit with his father in SF3.

And why no Final Fight representatives? Oh well, voted for Dan not that it'll probably matter much.

Gen SHOULD be in it IMO. He may be sickly in SFA but SF4 should be the game where he gets his deathmatch.

I agree with putting Dan into it. He would be a great comic relief character.

As far as people wanting SF3 characters: SF3 is about 6-10 years after the second street fighter. So chances are that they will not be there.

Also FUCK SF3. It's what made the series less popular.

Gen should be in the game because it makes for a great game. Also they really should not go into the whole "Dark" or "Evil" bullshit.

In all honesty, I didn't even know there was a SF3 until Mugen. But I was never much of a SF fan.

The way I remember SF3 around here, even when being young it revived the franchise. It was perhaps the funniest one I played by far. Although I was never as good at it as I was with SF2.  :(

I'd vote for Rose, but she isn't in the Poll (even he death is not so clear...she shared the GOOD part of Vega's soul, so...her detah is not 100% canon).

Dudley and Necro are specifically related to Gill or Gill's Empire(Illuminati...tsch tsch). R.Mika...ok, could fit, but her story will be very related to Zangief. Dan? Looking for Saga, not for defeating him again, so, only for show the power of Saykyo arts(yahooo...oyajiii!!). And Fei Long...It would be interesting if they giv him two styles of fighting: classical and using nunchakus. Bah.

I agree. Dan would pwn everyone. :D A Street Fighter without Dan is no Street Fighter at all.

I think that in this game, they should really finally reveal Akuma's plan's to Ryu, and that the battle
between them gets to a new level.

R. Mika and Sakura may be possible since Zangief and Ryu are in.

Fei Long may definatly be in since he was in Super Street Fighter II.

The rest may or may not be in since SFIV is before SFIII

But the truth is, I want to see more Final Fight characters appear in SFIV.  Guy, Cody, Maki, Rolento, Sodom, and Hugo were good, but I would like to see someone like Hager be in it.

Do many of you guys actually pick Dan a lot? And continue to LOL? I find the idea humorous but over time I always wish a real character would have filled that slot instead.

Same here. I play Street Fighter games that I own because of DAN!
I don't own any SF game where Dan is not in it (except for SF2- which was my
first fighter game I bought for my Snes :P).

When I play CVS 2 - I choose Dan. When I play SVC: Chaos, I play as Dan.
When I play MUGEN, I use P.o.t.S Dan, and try to collect all versions of Dan
there possibly are. :D

I think many people miss the whole point of Dan.  It's not just for the humor, which is a great part of his character.  But if you can consistently defeat your opponent with Dan, it is a way of shaming and dishonoring your opponent.  Dan is weak on purpose.  So picking him is a way of saying "I can defeat you with this weak character".  It is handicapping yourself.  I worked at an EBGames for about 9 years, and I left cvs2 on display all the time.  People would always walk in and challenge me.  I'd say about 95% of the time the team they picked was: Ryu, Ken, Akuma.  Defeating them every time with Dan and Zangief was my guilty pleasure.  There is so much more fun in destroying someone with a weak character like Dan rather than a guaranteed win with say Akuma.  I personally do not like how Shingo is becoming a better character.  They should weaken him.

shingo has always been pretty strong, actually, even in games in which he seems to be technically inferior like kof 2001, he makes up by doing big damage; but that's another discussion.

Yeah, but he really has no advantage over Ken, Ryu, or Akuma.  Can you think of a reason his character would be technically advantageous to picking a different shoto?  And I don't think the shiny dragon counts.

Oh I hope Dudley is in. Dudley is one of my favorite SF2 character. Hugo is my absolute fave.

I'd vote Hugo before Fei Long but Fei Long before Dudley. I'm just a big Fei Long fan.

Which brings me to the other thing: it really makes Ono sound like he isn't very confident in his game.

Does he have a choice better formula to use for character choices other than familiarity itself?
at this time and point in the aspect of franchise survival?

But i agree he was not that confident because the SF franchise was not that good in the fighting game scene as of now.

So it leaves him no choice but to use the popularity and familiarity thing.

Shak, you say "Street Fighter" , people automatically know what games you mean. There's no question about that. He goes on about how Street Fighter III hurt because of lack of familiarity yet overlooks that the Alpha series did well before 3 came about, and no version of the first two games in that line had all those guys in it. Same can be said for the Marvel vs. series. And so on.

Basically the arcade is pretty much dead at this point. It's a fun diversion, but it doesn't pay anymore. You'll find SF2 being hammered on at the airport by the guy waiting for his flight, or the laundromat by the guy drying his clothes. So on and so forth. At least in America anyway.

Ono's being far too careful. It's nice to have all the cast in there, always is. But the game will probably end up seeing an SF4-2. And with all their returning eggs in one basket already...

But what Alpha lacked in SF2 it delivered in SF1 and FF. :o And it didn't even lack that much to begin with, SFA2 (don't recall SFA1 being a success so I'll judge by 2) had *counts* 7 chars from SSF2T, not to mention Guile's buddy people were curious about. Looking at that game's roster I only see three original chars, even, out of 18.
