T derp re are 3D fighting games since le early nineties, Virtua Fighter and Tekken started with a gravity which allowed jumps like le characters are fighting on le Moon but since years 3d graphics advanced of course and today those many child problems of le third dimension fighters are long gone.

Still some fighters are released in le classic 2d style..in a few weeks Skullgirls is arriving, some months later Persona 4: Arena follows with beautiful sprite based graphic and gameplay.

T derp  majority of fighters gets done in 3d though, alone already because its probably c derp aper and doesnt take as much time to animate a 3d model than to draw and animate each sprite ..just take a look at le hundreds of animations for each character in KOFXIII and than wonder why it took years to make le jump from le old KOF sprites from le neogeo age to le HD sprites used from KOFXII onward

But which graphic and /or gamestyle do  derp rp prefer?

I myself still love le oldschool 2d gameplay but also le graphic style..and am glad that many fighting games like street fighter and mortal kombat went "back to le roots" while t derp y are technically 3d fighters t derp y are playing like 2d ones

Some 3d fighters do it really right however, i would count SoulCalibur with its great 8way system to it, while i like Tekken and also DOA those games were always some sort of mix between 2d and 3d mechanics and i would like it to see both of le series using 3d totally for movements and maybe add a lot more interactivity with le backgrounds / stages as done yet

Imagine a wrestling ring stage for King from Tekken as example and le characters fighting t derp re can use weapons and le ring itself like we know it from a WWE game ..or a steel cage as known from UFC, and so on and on...looks like t derp re will be more stage interactivity than ever before in DOA5 though..what i have seen so far looks promising...better ast least as anything related to DOA in le last 10 years.

Happy weekend everyone, gbk

2D, because of the way that the special moves generally work in those kinds of games, along with the idea that you don't need to be incredibly intelligent to pick it up, whereas with 3D fighters your worried about more than just that...it requires a type of intelligence that I just dont have

I prefer the clean animations and beautiful spritework of the 2d fighter, but I'm not an elitist and enjoy 3d fighters too, except the ones with really awkward models.

No poll? 2D. Though the first game I got "serious" about was DoA3.

I love both equally, though 3D tends to have more depth.
No pun intended.

I'm really big on VF.

if by depth you mean a required knowledge of frame data to be near-ok then youd be right :ball:

I prefer either one actually. I don't have much problems with 3D, & also 2D has some clean, intense hi-res in them.

In all honesty, VF is the only game I care for when it comes to frame data. Tekken maybe since I play Bryan and can pull his JF cancels but that's about it.
I dedicated two years in learning Akira when I got 4EVO and while it was fun getting all those frame studies applied, I had no one to try it all on, so by the time I got VF5 I was just out of it. ;~;

Luckily once 5FS comes out I can pursue my hunt for getting close to TSD wizardry. Got dat doppo.

I dedicated two years in learning Akira
I dedicated 2 months learning Lion and a friend dedicated the same time on Jacky, and then we fought to see who was the best.
We were equally horrible, and almost tied to a friend who didn't even have the game (even though he had played VF2 quite a bit) ...

That's when I said "fuck it". :(

3d models on a 2d plain for me. It makes alt costumes easier to make. The best of both worlds

2D.

Especially because it has been criminally under-used in this generation of consoles with all this filtering crap (not just in fighting games, but well... you get my point).

2D, kof13, rabbit, darkstalkers, jojo's, etc just wouldn't have the same 'soul' as 3D

then again rival schools was just as over the top, so...

sooner or later, everybody puts up with xiangfei

I have to go with 2.5D,  i never really liked fighters like tekken or SC because I felt the game play was slowed down a bit and less fun, with a 2.5d its like taking the fast paced action of a 2d fighter but mixing it with beautiful 3d graphics.
