I am making a screenpack, and have done the .sff file so from scratch, creating all the pcx files, palletting them and adding them all into an .sff file using Fighter Factory.

Anyway yeah I've added the majority of the sprites into the sff file no problem, winmugen runs when i load it. But when i add this specific sprite it crashes winmugen when i run it. The sprite/image is for the title screen at Group 0 Image 0 in the sff. The image size 285x115.

I have throughly checked the image, it is a 256 colour pcx image, and the pallette is correct with the transparent colour at slot 0. It has approximately 16 colours. I created it in Jasc's Paint Shop Pro 8.

The really strange thing is, when I add the sprite/image into the sff using Fighter Factory, it says the image is visulized incorrectly and also says there is no pallette applied to the sff...while all the other sprites i added were fine.

can anyone help sort the WinMugen Plus crashing out? i cant progress because of this!

thanks

Fighter factory right? it says that because you either enter one image alone or you just add it without grouping it,sharing it, or cropping, thats when i found it gives that error.

i am entering the sprite/image alone and the palette isn't shared as i manually applied it in PSP8. i done exactly the same with all the other sprites and they were fine, it's just this specific sprite that causes WinMUGEN Plus to crash.

i have tried to check the shared and cropped boxes when adding, it adds it to the sff no problem this time, but when i load up winmugen plus sure enough it doesnt crash, BUT the image is displayed in messed up colours.

so i try to 'correct' it in FF (you know that stuff on the right-hand side) and after saving it winmugen will crash when i load it, meaning i'm back to square one.

???

Redo the pallettes on the sprite, if it's just that sprite i guess it's possible for you to have made a mistake :P

heh trust me raj, i have done that, i even deleted the sprite and created a whole new one (rip from screenshot, save as pcx, reduce to 256 colors, set palette, save palette, apply palette, save  :P) and winmugen is still giving me the same problems.

hey can i ask something, in an sff file, when there are a number of images in a group (you know such as 100,1 100,2 100,3 100,4 etc.), MUST that group of images have a shared palette, or can they all have their own seperate stand-alone palettes?

thanks

No image must have shared palettes it's completely optional and if they are in the same group that doesn't mean they have to have shared palettes as far as i know.

Simple solution. Don't use 0,0.

0,0 according to something i read by ryouga sets the pallete for the character and a shared pallete sff must have it. If you're using unshared, you don't really need it. Just name it something else. Go to 0,1 or whatever. You don't need 0,0.

In M.U.G.E.N there is no magic button

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it's not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance.

i tried using 0,1 and that didn't work either, still crashes winmugen.

i did try putting the sprite into other free groups, such as 20, 40, 90 and it still crashes winmugen - however the only good thing when using those groups is that it stops the palette error message coming up in fighter factory.

however i tried a different sprite and it works fine, it seems it is this certain sprite that is causing the problem, which is REALLY strange!
