ADX Vs. MP3?

I occasionally have a problem with the music of my MUGEN game. Ive tried all audio formats I think & they all do the same thing. Ive lowered the sound buffering & performance and all that in Windows XP, which helps tremendously, but then I have to change it back when im done playing MUGEN, so that I can listen to music & watch movies properly. Anyway, my question is... Is ADX really better than MP3 format? Ive converted some MP3 tunes to ADX & I really dont see any improvenment. They both skip, & ADX doesnt loop well or doesnt loop at all sometimes. Also ADX lowers the volume just a tad. Ive had a few ppl tell me that ADX is much better, but I dont really see how. I thought it may be my converter but, ive downloaded other ppls converted ADX files & it does the same. Im also wondering what the best audio format to use is & also what the best plugins for them are? Any thoughts at all on this yall?...

Ok, thanks. Ill experiment some more with both & try to decide which I like better. Im having a hard time swallowing that ADX is better, because other than being smaller in size, I havnt personally seen any advantage of ADX. Thanks though...

ADX files infinitely loop, allowing the music to behave more like it does in the original games.

Not to mention being able to add intros to your music instead of trying to find something that loops perfectly from start to finish.

And here's the most important part: ADX music is lossless, so provided the ADX wasn't made from an MP3, it will sound exactly like the original game, and still be compressed. In some cases, for ADX files made from NES/SNES songs, the resulting file will actually be smaller than an equivalent MP3.

Wait so we can convert straight from SPC/PSF/GYM and whatnot straight to ADX? Or are you saying make them wav files first but skip the MP3 conversion part?
Cute gay MUGENboi. :3~ Rawr!

Has to be in WAV. Reason for that is because WAV is uncompressed.

What he said. Easiest way to get WAV files from those is to play the file in Winamp, and change the Output plugin to "Diskwriter." It will churn out a .wav format that loops as much as you specified in the plugin's config file (or if you set it to infinite looping, it will keep looping until you push stop on the player). From there you just proceed to create an ADX file as you normally would (preferably after trimming the WAV, since it will otherwise result in a huge ADX file with data that isn't needed)

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I convert them from MP3 to WAV, then to ADX. You can find converters everywhere for MP3 to WAV.

Yeah, converting MP3 files over to ADX is a terrible idea because you still have MP3 sound quality (which varies wildly depending on who ripped it), defeating the whole purpose outside of unique intros. I rarely make ADX files like this unless the encoding rate is well above 192 KBPS at least (320 is preferred).

You're better off ripping the tracks from the game in their native format and converting them to WAV. If not possible, either rip them yourself from a CD Soundtrack into WAV format, or look for the album encoded in something like FLAC so that you can convert that to WAV.
