I'm trying to make my spriting look better and for that purpose I am making this thread

first of all here are some arms I sprited for practice

I'm usually not too sure on how muscle details work, but these seem legit looking. Only thing looking off is the second arm. The fingers look too short and the hand looks a bit too unshaded, and the bicep looks like it's bulging out of the arm a bit too much.

Ook, you're improving. Try making differents parts of the body so we can see more clearly where do you fail. By the moment, we can just tell in general your mistakes and this is definitively helpful.

you can probably guess who the first 2 are referenced from

the last one is supposed to be toriko but i couldnt find any good blue pallete for his hair

OK, here's a tip. You made the lines of the chest area, abdominals and others VERY strong You used the last flesh colour and here's my suggestion: don't use that colour EXCEPT for 2-3 pixels, and always near an intersection(chest-arm, hips-ribs, etc). Do that and you'll see the improvement ;)!

in my experience, with cvs style faces don't even bother learning them at this stage, just copy paste them and learn to edit the hair instead.

NO!!! You made A LOT of steps backwards!! except the green lines, everything is not well done. Try to apply some of the stuff you learn on those pieces of sprites. C'mon, you can do it!!

Sounds cool IMO, though his arm looks kinda pillow shaded, and that muscle line looks a little awkward.

Hey man, I tried to come up with an example of a style you could take your Luffy in. Its not really CvS because of the head, but if you make a new head it could work as a decent base to start off with.

Or you could try looking at a Marvel action figure, if you have one that is. My Spiderman toy really helped me a lot when drawing dynamic poses.



If you don't, I suggest that you buy a really cheap one. Cheapest one you could possibly find at a thrift shop usually sells a buck each.

The KoF style is much closer to a real life look than Capcom's style (more cartoon-ish).

The way the muscle is shaded makes us think it faces us for the first part (nothing wrong with that) but then the muscle in the forearm doesn't look like a real one, you made it too big. And the hand shouldn't stay like that.

I tried making Luffy's head. One is more animeish but does not fit KOF style, while the other is more KOFish but, looks less like Luffy.

is a good start :)  I recommend you this site http://2dwillneverdie.com/  have a very usefull tutorials and nice tricks if you want done pixel art in less time
