I'm hyped just as long as there are no more tailing missions. Please God be rid of them.

Somehow it relates to this IMO

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/03/17/gdc-plot-is-highly-overrated-in-games-says-devs

No anchor to the series? Might as well rebrand it altogether like GTA, where every game is a completely different protagonist. But it's a little late for that, isn't it? They just had to get rid of the main character 5 GAMES INTO THE FRANCHISE. They're not even numbering the games anymore, given that the overarching story is a mess they've decided to stop supporting or advancing in a serious way.

No hype, at all. Sorry.

I thought its not numerical because its still a working title.

It wasn't numerical since Brotherhood and Revelations. They tried to conceal and lead consumers away from AC"4" by always referring to it as BLACK FLAG THIS, BLACK FLAG THAT.

This isn't AC5, it's AC "Unity"

I see that article as extremely bogus because they ask for "the plot of your favourite game". The problem is that you don't decide on which game is your favourite by just watching the story - which is exactly what you do when you decide on your favourite movie. You pick your favourite game because you enjoy PLAYING it, meaning their result was obvious from the start : you remember PLAYING it, that's the whole reason it's your favourite. Meanwhile, it's pretty often that you also find movies and tv shows where you enjoy the character and the flash and bang, yet you can't remember the overall story. Does that mean that the story doesn't matter in a movie ? Who wrote this, Zack Snyder and Michael Bay ?
Im disregarding the validity of this study, and the sad thing is that it reinforces the feeling that these people have : no one cares for the story anyway. This is shit and it's going to make all games eventually lose all signs of story, based solely around the gaming part. The COD syndrom.

(next time just try asking what's the best game story you remember if you want to know how much people remember about the story !)
If I struggled to the end of my determination, to the end of my way of life with my followers, if the result is ruin, then this ruin is inevitable. Grieve. Shed tears. But you cannot regret.

I don't. IMO they do have a point. If I ask people about a movie like, say, UP, they'll automatically tell me it's about an old guy and a kid. WHAT WERE THEY PURSUING? Who cares, the characters were adorable.

What is Transformers about? THEM ROBOTS FOOL!
What is 300 about? SOME OG, LEONIDAS, KICKING ASS, TAKING NAMES.

It's not about ditching plots, it's just that characters leave a larger mark on people.

I'm still pissed at them for building Desmond up to be this so called uber assassin, then you hardly play as him except for some shitty levels, and then kill him off in an even shittier way.

So is this new guy gonna be another piece of "Sample 17"?

I don't know if Up is the best example there.  I think most people got it's about Fredricksen going out to build his and his wife's dream home, thanks to that opening. (Or move their current house there, anyways)

I'm not particularly worried over its relation to the main current day plot.  That's pretty much done now, anyways.  In fact this ties in rather nicely with IV's little current day revelation how in-canon to the games' current day they sell these Assassins' memories as stories, so it could really have no current day ties beyond that.  Just someone playing through an Assassin's life.  Unless they really find reason to do something in the present day.

I think that all started in AC: Liberation, but no one can be blamed for playing something that was only marginally better then AC3 and for a while was stuck on a lackluster handheld with few games.

Desmond was a shitty character anyway; I'm glad he's out. AC should ditch the modern day aspect all together, and just focus on good characters in interesting cities and time periods. In terms of gameplay, they need to either get rid or reduce the number of follow and eavesdropping missions. They're not fun. At all. What i loved most about AC2 was exploring and solving the puzzles of the Assassin Tombs. We need more things of that nature IMO. More challenging combat would also be nice.

Nice teaser, I wonder if the one being executed its Marie Antoinette it was a big historical event, this comes to mind since latetly all Assassins Creeds have been about "history lessons", or I could also be wrong, she wasn't executed in front of the Notra Dame... and... much about the French "Revolution" happened around that city too

ps: nevermind I just read from a source that it is indeed based on the french revolution...
"Given the choice; whether to rule a corrupt and failing empire or to challenge the Fates for another throw a better throw against one's destiny... what was a king to do?

But that's exactly my point : people remember characters better than the story, that's true for shows and movies too. And yet it doesn't mean that movies and shows need to ditch the story too, but here it's exactly the shortcut they're making for games. It's obvious that people will remember characters and gameplay more than the story in their favourite game, because the gameplay is the reason it's their favourite. The same isn't true for movies, where it's much more common to pick a favourite movie for the story - and the characters. Other shows and movies that you like only for the character, like your examples, aren't a proof that you can ditch the story in movies and shows.
I'm not saying no one likes characters.I always like shows and movies and, yes, games too, for the characters before I get to the story. I'm saying their question made it obvious that no one would talk about the story of some games, thus making their results useless, and their conclusion to ditch the story in games, moronic. (because that is what their conclusion is, they're not just saying people like characters more, I agree with that, they're saying that the story is not worth it)

Lord Kain : it's XVIIIth century France, so yes it's the revolution, but it doesn't meaan the one being executed is Marie-Antoinette, a lot of people were executed back then.
If I struggled to the end of my determination, to the end of my way of life with my followers, if the result is ruin, then this ruin is inevitable. Grieve. Shed tears. But you cannot regret.

Glad I'm not the only one to find it boring. If they didn't make upgrading the ship a grind I wouldn't of tired of Naval combat as much. I'll still play it though I guess. Maybe they learned-PFTHAHAHAHAHAHA
