Somehow it relates to this IMOhttp://www.ign.com/articles/2014/03/17/gdc-plot-is-highly-overrated-in-games-says-devsNo anchor to the series? Might as well rebrand it altogether like GTA, where every game is a completely different protagonist. But it's a little late for that, isn't it? They just had to get rid of the main character 5 GAMES INTO THE FRANCHISE. They're not even numbering the games anymore, given that the overarching story is a mess they've decided to stop supporting or advancing in a serious way. No hype, at all. Sorry.
It wasn't numerical since Brotherhood and Revelations. They tried to conceal and lead consumers away from AC"4" by always referring to it as BLACK FLAG THIS, BLACK FLAG THAT.This isn't AC5, it's AC "Unity"
I see that article as extremely bogus because they ask for "the plot of your favourite game". The problem is that you don't decide on which game is your favourite by just watching the story - which is exactly what you do when you decide on your favourite movie. You pick your favourite game because you enjoy PLAYING it, meaning their result was obvious from the start : you remember PLAYING it, that's the whole reason it's your favourite. Meanwhile, it's pretty often that you also find movies and tv shows where you enjoy the character and the flash and bang, yet you can't remember the overall story. Does that mean that the story doesn't matter in a movie ? Who wrote this, Zack Snyder and Michael Bay ?Im disregarding the validity of this study, and the sad thing is that it reinforces the feeling that these people have : no one cares for the story anyway. This is shit and it's going to make all games eventually lose all signs of story, based solely around the gaming part. The COD syndrom.(next time just try asking what's the best game story you remember if you want to know how much people remember about the story !)
DKDC said, March 21, 2014, 10:01:30 pmI see that article as extremely bogusI don't. IMO they do have a point. If I ask people about a movie like, say, UP, they'll automatically tell me it's about an old guy and a kid. WHAT WERE THEY PURSUING? Who cares, the characters were adorable. What is Transformers about? THEM ROBOTS FOOL!What is 300 about? SOME OG, LEONIDAS, KICKING ASS, TAKING NAMES.It's not about ditching plots, it's just that characters leave a larger mark on people.
I'm still pissed at them for building Desmond up to be this so called uber assassin, then you hardly play as him except for some shitty levels, and then kill him off in an even shittier way. So is this new guy gonna be another piece of "Sample 17"?
I don't know if Up is the best example there. I think most people got it's about Fredricksen going out to build his and his wife's dream home, thanks to that opening. (Or move their current house there, anyways)I'm not particularly worried over its relation to the main current day plot. That's pretty much done now, anyways. In fact this ties in rather nicely with IV's little current day revelation how in-canon to the games' current day they sell these Assassins' memories as stories, so it could really have no current day ties beyond that. Just someone playing through an Assassin's life. Unless they really find reason to do something in the present day.
I think that all started in AC: Liberation, but no one can be blamed for playing something that was only marginally better then AC3 and for a while was stuck on a lackluster handheld with few games.
QuoteI'm still pissed at them for building Desmond up to be this so called uber assassin, then you hardly play as him except for some shitty levels, and then kill him off in an even shittier way.Desmond was a shitty character anyway; I'm glad he's out. AC should ditch the modern day aspect all together, and just focus on good characters in interesting cities and time periods. In terms of gameplay, they need to either get rid or reduce the number of follow and eavesdropping missions. They're not fun. At all. What i loved most about AC2 was exploring and solving the puzzles of the Assassin Tombs. We need more things of that nature IMO. More challenging combat would also be nice.
Nice teaser, I wonder if the one being executed its Marie Antoinette it was a big historical event, this comes to mind since latetly all Assassins Creeds have been about "history lessons", or I could also be wrong, she wasn't executed in front of the Notra Dame... and... much about the French "Revolution" happened around that city toops: nevermind I just read from a source that it is indeed based on the french revolution...

SOME OG, LEONIDAS, KICKING ASS, TAKING NAMES.It's not about ditching plots, it's just that characters leave a larger mark on people. But that's exactly my point : people remember characters better than the story, that's true for shows and movies too. And yet it doesn't mean that movies and shows need to ditch the story too, but here it's exactly the shortcut they're making for games. It's obvious that people will remember characters and gameplay more than the story in their favourite game, because the gameplay is the reason it's their favourite. The same isn't true for movies, where it's much more common to pick a favourite movie for the story - and the characters. Other shows and movies that you like only for the character, like your examples, aren't a proof that you can ditch the story in movies and shows. I'm not saying no one likes characters.I always like shows and movies and, yes, games too, for the characters before I get to the story. I'm saying their question made it obvious that no one would talk about the story of some games, thus making their results useless, and their conclusion to ditch the story in games, moronic. (because that is what their conclusion is, they're not just saying people like characters more, I agree with that, they're saying that the story is not worth it)Lord Kain : it's XVIIIth century France, so yes it's the revolution, but it doesn't meaan the one being executed is Marie-Antoinette, a lot of people were executed back then.
Unity is Current Gen, set in Francehttp://www.ign.com/articles/2014/03/19/assassins-creed-unity-comet-allegedly-coming-this-fallComet is Last Gen, a Templar in North America (probably NYC)http://kotaku.com/sources-assassins-creed-comet-will-let-you-play-as-a-1552929846Keep all the Assassins Creed shennanigans in this thread :O
Glad I'm not the only one to find it boring. If they didn't make upgrading the ship a grind I wouldn't of tired of Naval combat as much. I'll still play it though I guess. Maybe they learned-PFTHAHAHAHAHAHA
No surprise really, but Unity is getting a dlc mission, what's interesting about this tho is the pic shows the protagonist's face for the first timeSource

And the official announcement.http://www.allgamesbeta.com/2014/08/assassins-creed-rogue-official.htmlYeah, I'm sticking with Unity. ... And by that I mean I would if I had a PS4.
I dunno man, from those screenshots, I like what I see, I hope having the dagger and sword will be like Connor's fighting style, I really liked his. Edwards wasn't that great.
QuoteRougeIt's always Rogue, it's never rouge. It's only Rouge in Power Stone, in Sonic, and in French, everything else is always Rogue.
http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/08/14/assassins-creed-unity-will-let-players-fast-track-unlocks-with-microtransactions/Because fuck actually playing the game to unlock stuff, you can just pay for unlockables instead
It's not new, I don't see the problem as long as the hard but free way is still available. It'll be a problem when regular unlock through gameplay is completely dead (but then again, even that model has been around for a while already on smartphones for small games so it's no surprise)

Honestly, I mostly play AC for the Parkour ... I find it relaxing. So I do EVERY POSSIBLE SIDE MISSION available, but I would understand that there might be some people who would just want to finish the story, and they'll need some upgrades fast.Kinda like how I paid to unlock Gill in SF3 when all I had to do was finish the game with all characters, but I found that to be a chore
I don't care about people being able to unlock stuff faster via money because I'm a completionist. If there's a way to unlock stuff I'll unlock it. I'll finish every side mission and all that crap. With that said, yeah I miss the old times when you had a FREE cheat code to unlock stuff :| but this does not affect me at all anyway. The only games I ever bought from Ubisoft (Previous/Current gen games) on steam are Rayman Legends and Farcry 3 Blood Dragon, both of them lack the usual ubisoftxplotation of season passes and microtransactions. Never gave a shit about their super AAAA games and never will so meh, whatever
The combat (kill streak and counter-kill removed for a flow of combat), the descent control, the adaptive mission mechanic (unfair desynch hear hear), and the stealth mechanic a bit all sound really great. Murder investigation missions ? That's quite original - especially for an assassin. Good to see they're coming up with new missions to avoid repetitiveness.

But less than 30fps makes it more cinematic right? I swear people are just finding things to complain about.Oh and just like Sega, Ubisoft knew they released an atrocious piece of shit.http://www.wired.com/2014/11/assassins-creed-unity-embargo/QuoteEmbargoes on game reviews aren’t necessarily bad for consumers. But they can be used in rotten ways.Ubisoft released Assassin’s Creed Unity, the latest in its ever-expanding historical action game series, on Tuesday. As is typical with major releases, early copies of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC game were provided to certain press outlets with the agreement that reviews would not be published until a specific date and time. This, for the uninitiated, is called an embargo. What was atypical in the case of Unity was the embargo expired at noon Tuesday. Given the popularity of midnight launches and all-hours digital distribution options like Steam, that means Ubisoft deliberately held back reviews until 12 hours after people were buying it. You might imagine this meant Ubisoft anticipated poor reviews. This seems to have been the case, given the reviews thus far.Conversely, if Ubisoft expected heaps of praise, it might have set the embargo early so as to shout the game’s praises from the rooftop ahead of its launch. This seems to have been the case with Electronic Arts’ Dragon Age: Inquisition—glowing reviews hit this week, but the game doesn’t launch until Tuesday. Both scenarios are in the best interest of the publisher, but only one is truly problematic: giving early access to the press in exchange for an agreement to withhold information not just prior to the official release of a product, but for some time afterward as well. Note that I am not opposed to embargoes per se. In fact, I’m of the opinion they are a win-win-win for everyone, as long as they’re not used in a manipulative way.
For the record, the folks at IGN in one of their podcasts confessed that AC Rogue (last gen) is actually a better, more solid game than Unity.*shrugs*
Well so far I'm enjoying the hell out of Unity, havent had any bugs as yet. Rogue is basically the definitive version of Black Flag. I'm alternating between the two. So far Rogue has the better story, but I find myself liking Arno, his like how young Ezio was.
