When I load MUGEN, it says "assert Failure in spr-lib.c line 560". What's wrong?

more info is needed; for a first test try commenting out all the characters in the selec.def file then load mugen; if it loads properly , uncomment a character and load it again, do that until mugen crashes.

Well, I'm using MUGEN Debug mod, and when I select my W.I.P character, the message comes up. I click OK, it closes and says "Mugen Debug Mod has encountered an error, and has to close".

I have no idea what mugen debug mod is, so try getting a more stable version of mugen; alternatively, which programs are you using to work on your wip character?

The standard, Fighter Factory. I think some required sprites are missing.
And Debug Mod was a leaked version of M.U.G.E.N that Elecbyte used to test work files. It has the Debug Text all around it. I can probably PM you the EXE.

This was happening to me sometime ago, look through your character for an assertspeacial sctrl, as  i  think that that means, that it had troubled assert your flags,. if that doesn't work, i don't know it seemed to work for me, i never got the message again.

I got the exact same message, I edited the default mugen logo using fighting factory. Then I converted it to SFF and put it in the data folder.
Then I tried to open mugen. And this is what I got.

 --; For two hours I have now been trying to edit the graphics in mugen. But I can't get it to work. Is there anyone who know some really detailed tutorial that explains how you make backgrounds and use them in mugen. I mean not only how you code them but how you first make them in BMP format then convert them into SFF format. And then how you rename them the images inside the SFF file. So you can add the image names in these lines in the system.tex.

Quote
;Title background definition
[TitleBGdef]
bgclearcolor = 0,0,0

[TitleBG 0]
type  = parallax
spriteno = 5, 1
start = 0, 145
width = 400, 1200
yscalestart = 100
yscaledelta = 1
tile  = 1,1
velocity = -1

[TitleBG 1]
type  = normal
spriteno = 5, 2
start = -160, 145
trans = sub

[TitleBG 2]
type  = normal
spriteno = 5,0
start = 0, 10
tile = 1,2
velocity = -1
mask = 0

[TitleBG 3]
type  = normal
spriteno = 0,0
start = 0, 40
mask = 1
trans = add
The default images seem to be named "TitleBG 3" right. How can I change the name. So I easily can call my own made images? [/size]
Sorry for my bad english...

You mind clearing yourself up a bit? I didn't find one in my character, and I don't have my character in my other MUGEN, so I don't know how that got there.
I keep MUGEN debug mod and MUGEN that I play for fun in 2 different folders, my character is only in debug mods.
And what does it mean when I have no assert special?

spr-lib = sff file.

If you're using FF's crappy bitmap import conversion your problem is there. Good chance you have not palleted your sprites correctly.

In M.U.G.E.N there is no magic button

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it's not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance.

i don't kow it worked for me ithink, but then again what Cynide said, i also dleleted a few sprites, aswell during my deletion of the assert speacial.

he could be right , he is more expereinced than me. :-\

cheers,RajaBoy,

hope you find your problem

although i never used any bitmap conversion. ???

I never used a bitmap conversion, and my pallets were there before this problem, and when this came up, I did not change the pallet. I think this could mean the required sprites.
And I checked the SFF in FF. I came across no problems
Normal MUGEN is fine now.
And now that Fighter Factory can edit CNS files, having codes insterted in with a click, where would I put the Assert Special?

oh my friend you don't need it, to prevent the problem it's just a sctrl, like an explod., your problem is the .sff

if i got your question right, it's good. just look at assert speacial in the docs, it explains what it does.

No, the problem here lies in the SFF file : either you did insert a bitmap image as a PCX, and mugen is screwing up, either you've put twice the same image in the SFF (I mean, using different sprites, but placing both at the same group and image number).

I'dd suggest you to search in the SFF and checkif you don't have twice the same number and group for a sprite.
