Pretty damn good... Now for them to release the new characters as individuals (They said they would once the bugs are out).....

Don't really have the time.motivation to test all the way right now, but opened it real quick and noticed these two things:

Training mode has the two different players overlap on the selection screen:

The Red Hulk's gun hyper misses unless at close range.  I couldn't pull up the clsns (assuming it's due to the molebox), but it feels really off:

(yeah, that whole attack just missed...)

The game in general feels ok - it seems really built on easy combos that are prolonged through wall bounces and proper timing.  I do look forward to testing some of these characters in a regular Mugen, though, and hope they are slightly different playing when released outside of the full game.

EDIT: so the more I play it the more things I noticed

Pretty much every "heavy-hitter" character I tried briefly has the same combo with slightly different timing: L->M->H punch or kick, which then bounces off the wall, L->M->H punch or kick (opposite of first string), which then launches into the air, super jump follow and then another L->M->H combo which then puts the opponent on the ground.  Usually results in 25-40% damage depending on the character.  Makes for slightly generic gameplay since they all seem to be based off this one idea.

Just did a quick test with Hope and she seems awfully generic.  Her specials and hypers are guns and some phoenix powers.  Considering she has the power to emulate any mutant ability when within the vicinity of them, I was hoping for more of a Rogue-type moveset.

The storyboards in between the fights are really well done and the training match in the beginning of arcade is also well done.  Some of the fighting mechanics seem easily abusable by the AI though, especially the OTG (on the ground) attacks.  I had the Red Hulk corner trap me and then just knock me down, OTG hit me, repeat during one match.

Overall, at this point, it looks really pretty and the presentation is well done, but the core fighting mechanics seem like they could use some work.

Also, having the fight begining as the text "FIGHT" appears on the screen as opposed to after the text appears seems eh.  Can't tell you how many times I've been bitchslapped by the AI because I'm waiting for the text to clear before I start pressing buttons.  But maybe that's just me being nit-picky.

And why as an Avenger am I fighting other Avengers?  Wish that Avenger players only fought X-men and vice-a-versa.

You know to view the CLSN and Hitboxes all you have to do is go to the CFG file in data and turn on the debug keys right?

Never knew that debug keys could be turned off, I always just hit cntrl+c and never questioned it. :-X

Something else I found - Emma Frost's AI just stopped for no reason mid fight against Thor in arcade mode.  She just stood there and even hitting her had no effect.

Forces of Evil bonus game feels like it needs more work too.  Don't know if it was intentional, but the giant Sentinel sticking half out of the ground looks ugly.  I'm assuming this was to make up for the regular Sentinel's hitboxes being too high when he was scaled up, but it still looks bad.  And when I loss to the giant Sentinel on round 1, I started back at the beginning of the stage at round 2 and was about to 1-hit-ko the Giant sentinel, who had appeared with me at the beginning.

True. But they do have a bug thread on IMT so I'm pretty sure they're willing to remedy problems like these.

Why do people need this thing to be unmoleboxed to find problems?

My vid shows that the debug keys still work once activated.

Was your description on Youtube sarcastic because "I have not even begun to scratch the surface of this" sounds like the game has many problems you have detected.  I dont want to post your video for bug thread if it is intend to "give them an idea of an insult". Again not saying you are but both your words here and you Youtube description is throwing me off for if I should or shouldn't

What I meant here is that I haven't even gotten very deep into the game and I fear what I would find if I do.

@Roman55: I think it's cause everyone is so used to the debug keys being enabled to default that when they push the debug keys and nothing comes up, they just assume it's due to the molebox.  At least, that's what happened with me...

And holy cow those clsns.  I knew they felt off on some of the characters when I was playing the game, but I didn't turn on the boxes.  Looks like a combination of auto-clsn, trying to be super-exact with covering the body (at least in Psylocke's case) and just plain bad judgement.

You limit yourself so badly when you try to avoid variables. When you get over your fear of the "complexity" of variables, you will find yourself in a better place: A beautiful world where coding is actually fun.

If thats true then either its modified from the EoH template or its based on similar, if not the same, misconceptions that IMT has about the MvC system.

I get the feeling that the survey is a tad too generic, almost as if the survey was expecting positive feedback and positive feedback only.

Still, that survey site might come in handy in the future.

After checking the survey, I feel it was truly aimed to get at the actual play value of the game. I don't feel like he's expecting to just shower the game with positive feedback.

With that said, *Gives honest survey opinion.*

This thing feels like it needs more work.. What happened to the arcade mode? the computer does not move and I get what seems like a tutorial on what buttons to play.  it feels like characters are missing animations, there even a mode in vs players over lap each other meaning instead of player 2 been on the right side of the screen it overlaps player 2.  I give them props for trying to be original but this release I consider a beta that has massive potential.  Sorry IMT you fell way short in this release

That's because that part of Arcade IS a tutorial.

Not trying to justify it, but apparently that is due to the use of animated portraits in the select screen.  Dunno if there is a way to fix it or not.

Question.

Is this a COMPLETE release, or are they releasing it, then releasing updates to it? I could have sworn I heard someone was making the Phoenix Five as characters for this.

Just a question though.

My understanding is that there will probably be a 'Phase 2' release later on. Angelus_Silverhead is making a Phoenix Five-styled Cyclops over at MMV; it is, currently at least, unassociated with the project, unless that's changed recently.

I really wish someone was working on Magik, but if they are, I'm not aware of it. =/

Alright o:.

And I'm with you on that. Magik in MUGEN would be amazing.
Emma Frost in Phoenix Five would also be amazing. Along with a Dark Phoenix. I have yet to see a decent DP.
