  • Foolish, but learning.
I feel I need to understand something.

People have issues with people using 'their' sprites, and will raise hell, credited or not.
People have issues with using 'their' sounds, and will raise hell, credited or not.
People have issues with using 'their' coding, and will raise hell, credited or not.

If you can't look and use sprites, sound or coding to build off....what can you do?

???

It just depends of people. Some people are totally open-source, and you can use whatever you want from their creations.
People not wanting you to use their sprites is most probably when the source is very hard to rip or when they've created the sprites themselves, so they don't want somebody else to have them in their char. Same goes for sounds.

Concerning coding, taking a few bits of code in a char never killed anybody. However, using whole moves is not very wise, since you'll learn nothing from doing this.

Often, people will grant you permission to use their stuff is you ask nicely. People "have issues" when you release something without telling them, and it turns out to be utter crap.

Do everything on your own. Rip your own sprites, sounds, and make your own codes
....(Or you could use an open resource).

Or get some permissions from other authors. :D

Just find sprite sheets, sound packs, and use a template for coding. However, I find that many, many creators will be satisfied if you just give them credit for whatever of theirs you used.
Son, the last thing you'll realize you need is what you've already got.
