At a shareholder meeting held yesterday, June 16, Capcom shareholders did not approve a proposal that would renew the company’s existing takeover defense. The countermeasure, which was originally adopted in 2008, kept Capcom from being bought out through a hostile takeover.

Very little is known as to how this will affect the company in the near future, but they are now open to a buyout from external entities should a majority of its stock be purchased.

According to Capcom’s official statement, they “will continue to focus on further preserving and enhancing corporate value and common interests of its shareholders” despite the non-approval and, if Capcom shares are acquired by a large-scale purchaser, they are ready “to make necessary measures within the admissible limits of applicable laws and regulations.”

Capcom’s full press release has been included below.

I have wishful thinking, but I hope if someone buy's Capcom's stocks, I hope Shinji Mikami reclaims his creation work, Resident Evil and revives the franchise. He is, after all, the creator.

Shallow Prediction:

Capcom will negotiate to divide up key franchises and teams to several publishers. Just as Sega did.

I get a feeling too. Like Sony will buy some IPs, Nintendo will buy some others ones like Megaman, Microsoft might buy out other games. Too lazy to out in depth but I sure as hell hope Shinji Mikami makes the next RE title

I'm kinda torn on this. Capcom of America is a massive resource-wasting trainwreck and kinda should get bought out so they could be able to do smart choices like never having considered a pretty bad season pass for DR3 to be a good idea or porting Dragon's Dogma to PC when there was more people asking for it than stated (PC-bound action adventure RPG fans looking for alternatives, not just some niche) when it would be profitable.

On the other hand, we're talking about Capcom in general. If they only meet decent to mediocre success in Japan when they already have western divisions, sure enough they'd be an easy target for big names, and that could lead to them being the new Rare, changing their policies for the worst, or exclusives.

And I really fucking hate exclusives. Unless it's a new Monster Hunter game on Vita. Then I would be all over that shit like flies on a dead horse.

A lot of people would.

I'm also under the impression that people keep neglecting data from the game, do you guys know how PotS made his original characters? He actually studied every single game he referenced, down to the core. Doing this properly requires understanding how the original system was made, not just winging it.

It's all about the second analogue stick XD

Honestly though, I'd be a little disappointed if Monster Hunter became a Sony Exclusive. The reason why MH left in the first place was Sony began to demand a huge graphical upgrades to the series, instead of smaller upgrades and greater focus on gameplay, which would preserve frame rate and online experience. And I stand by Capcom in that sense.

But Hey, if MH did go Sony again, I'd still buy it and whatever it's on!

ideally namco or some other third party, so their games don't stay exclusive to a console.

but if it has to be one of the console makers, nintendo.

I keep seeing suggestions on Disney continuing their company acquiring campaign mainly for MvC4, and I'm beginning to feel a bit ashamed that I'm starting to consider it.

Wreck-It Ralph 2: Console Edition better make Zangief a main character and include more Bison, Ryu, Chun-Li & Cammy.

But really, as long as things don't get divided into a bunch of exclusives for series that weren't previously, I hope this will bring back some dead franchises people have been hoping to see return.  Or if they do, they're done well at least.

I think Nintendo should take some titles but there are some titles that should stay within Sony. I don't want Devil May Cry on Nintendo. Or Resident Evil as well. Unless Platinum Games is gonna work on RE, because that would include Shinji Mikami from Tango Studios going there.

I don't believe to Nintendo.
And also: SF, FF and RS is one canonic world. Don't need to separate.
-And it's cool: Street Fighter is too... for children now, Final Fight must be violent. Well, only Rival Schools is break system. But anyway- only NetherRealm. I don't think that Nintendo or (or ONLY, Nintendo have a chance, this one- not) Disney can give them second life.
-Megaman and Vietiful Joe can be Nintendo's (or here is f*cking Disney!!!).

Because of this masterpiese. After playing this i really watch on [MK4-MKA] like on sh*t. They gave to this series a second life. And this life is awesome. Only think, what they can do with the same "Street Fighter"!!!!
(+chanse of one crossover...)
