  • does this look like the face of mercy?
Batman writer, Chuck Dixon brings up to light an issue that has been around since the inception of comics.

Should comic books be censored?

Once upon a time there was a comic book code of conduct, this code prevented anything from being published that didnt adhere to specific rules that aimed the comics towards children.

Quote

Our fear is that today's young comic-book readers are being ill-served by a medium that often presents heroes as morally compromised or no different from the criminals they battle. With the rise of moral relativism, "truth, justice and the American way" have lost their meaning.

Quote

The 1990s brought a change. The industry weakened and eventually threw out the CCA, and editors began to resist hiring conservative artists. One of us, Chuck, expressed the opinion that a frank story line about AIDS was not right for comics marketed to children. His editors rejected the idea and asked him to apologize to colleagues for even expressing it. Soon enough, Chuck got less work.

The superheroes also changed. Batman became dark and ambiguous, a kind of brooding monster. Superman became less patriotic, culminating in his decision to renounce his citizenship so he wouldn't be seen as an extension of U.S. foreign policy. A new code, less explicit but far stronger, replaced the old: a code of political correctness and moral ambiguity. If you disagreed with mostly left-leaning editors, you stayed silent.

If you want comic books to completely die, yea, you can go back to "truth, justice and the american way"...widdle the business down to small, novelty companies.
A comic book is not gonna make a kid any better or worse, and there's enough kiddie shit out there.

It's great for people like Dixon to debate this kinda shit but in the end you gotta make money.

Not everything has to be all inclusive. There can be kid versions of Batman alongside the teen/adult versions.

Anyway, yes. I let my 6 year old step son look at most comics. I look at them 1st to be sure nothing is too crazy but most US comics are not going to push anything that bad even now.

Exactly!

All people have to do to make sure that inappropriate content doesn't get into the hands of their kids...is to PAY ATTENTION TO THEIR FUCKING KIDS!

Shit's spreading more now than ever. Kid's shit is no longer just kid's shit.
Video games, wrestling, comic, cartoons....it's acceptable for adults to be into this kinda stuff so you have to provide us with the right content.

Which is why John Cena is so interesting cause the kids love him and the adults hate him, and they seem to be of equal numbers now which I never saw before on a scale like this.
