Certain characters make the game cut off.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I downloaded Mugen the other day and some of the characters I've been getting aren't working right.  They show up on the character select screen, but when I try to start a game with them (or against them) the make the game close out and take me back to the desktop.  At first I thought it was just the characters, but I had Mugen a long time ago and some of the characters I had back then aren't working with it now (specifically Metool and Masterhand).  What's my problem?

maybe those characters are meant to be played on Dosmugen...and maybe the mugen you recently got is the WINmugen, which is different..you would have to get a program to convert your Dosmugen chars so that they can work on the WINmugen version...

try a search with http://www.google.com (look for dos2win) and get the program....now, to convert, take the 2 .EXEs in the Dos2Win folder (one is called "CharSffDtoW.exe" and the other is "Dos2Win.exe"), and put them in the folder of the char you wanna convert... you will have to simply run the .EXE called "Dos2Win", a MS-Prompt window will show up showing you the conversion and you are done! 
BUT sometimes it makes some mistakes during convertion,like mixing up the "\" with the "/" (or the other way around) in the char files...

that could be one solution...

I've got it fixed.  I was using just the regular WinMugen, but I broke it with a screenpack (again), so I took it off and got one of the Hi-Res mugen hack thingies.  Now all of my characters are working.  A couple have glitched sprites or portraits, but it's not something that's really bothering me. 

Thanks for the help.  If I run into anymore problems with characters I'll be sure to try your solution.
