What do you suppose the problem lies if the character won't jump until he finishes a loop of its idle animation?

You have a ctrlset of 0 somewhere?

You finish the move with an idle loop of animation which has ctrl = 0

If something's not jumping, it's because ctrl = 0 somewhere.

Another possibility is you haven't created an animation for jumpstart (or have used anim 0 there) and it's running through that, jumpstart anims are normally 1-2 ticks long.
