Talk here about anything relating to comic books: media adaptations, news, off-your-mind, whatever.
Preferably English comic books. Excluding foreign books such as Manga, including foreign books such as from U.K.

How long does it take you to read a comic book of say 20 pages?
It takes me like 45-100 seconds per page, with/without dialog.

Also, does anyone here know of somewhere that I can get a lot of comic book things summarized and/or explained to me, preferably at a moderate/fast pace or in text? GMan at Comicvine does this sometimes but he only does it for characters and recent comic books and his voice is dull. He explains things at a slower pace and without much enthusiasm

I don't really see a need for this thread; the existing threads cover the Big Two, in movies and in comics, and there pretty much zero interest in talking about anything besides the Big 2 (which is unfortunate, but oh well).

Maybe there's someone out there that wants to talk about a different publisher that I don't know much about, like Image/Dynamite/Top Cow.
Maybe there's someone out there that can help me find someone/somewhere to get comic books summarized to me so that I can get the stories without having to read through everything, lost by the things I didn't already read.

Either way, I'm personally just looking forward to the second one.
I would hope people here would want to talk about comics aside from just popular-new ones from just Marvel and DC, or at least know of a place where people do.

The idea was to create a thread solely for comics because so many times users come into the 'Universe' threads to discuss the films, the television shows, the tooth brushes; and that's kind of annoying.

There's also the inconvenience of having to jump between comic threads. Why not just have it all in the same place? I don't know if this forum has enough interest in comics to sustain this thread, but we'll see.

The only thing that really inspires much sustained conversation is discussion of the live action stuff; the DC and Marvel threads are pretty much dead, and is not going to inspire more discussion. That's why having another thread for comics is redundant and pointless, I think.

Before this thread dies, I want to say that I really hope Corey Lewis gets around to finishing Sharknife. The storyline's kinda meh and LOL VIDEO GAME REFERENCES LOL but the artwork is so weird and awesome that sometimes I'll just open it up and stare at it for a while.

No need to actively discourage talk of them - if there's no interest, the topic will eventually sink on its own.

That being said, everyone should read the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen series by Alan Moore. After the early books focusing on the initial version of the League, then the scrapbook-style Black Dossier, and then the Century mini-series that spanned its namesake and the changes it's gone through, it has recently taken to focus on a previously secondary character introduced in the 1st Century story, Janni Dakkar, Nemo's daughter, who has taken over the tile, and 2 thirds of her own triology of books (using the Nemo name instead of the LoEG one, but it's all in continuity; that's "Nemo: Heart of Ice" and "Nemo: Roses of Berlin") are out, with an underlying theme of dealing with a family legacy going through it. Incidentaly, it's probably one of the very few comic books out there starring a non-white middle-aged married woman with offspring.

Edit: Also, I read today that amazon bought Comixology, which might be of consequence to the business in the near future, we'll see. I haven't taken the plunge from physical to digital yet, but moving my stuff recently did illustrate the space a comics collection can take up, especially considering how often you're likely to read each issue.

I agree with this thread, especially since the lack of (good) interest about DC and Marvel because The New 52 and Marvel Now!, and since because of those ones, the other (independent) editorials become more interesting. Also, it can't be said there's no news about them, like:
Image Comics' Chew will be an animated series, and Steven "Glenn" Yeun will be Tony Chu

I read the first volume of Sharknife, his UDON's Rival Schools saga and also I got PENG! spinoff, its anime-graffitti art is awesome but very underrated, I like them and I hope to see more of his stories (I've to read the 2nd volume of Sharknife by the way)

That really makes more sense to be put in the general entertainment news thread since it's an adaptation IMO.

I'm not trying to discourage discussion guys, I'm just saying, there just isn't that much interest in these types of threads unfortunately, and it's gonna die off. :V

Well, in my case, after the deception DC and Marvel gave to me, I focus my attention on IDW, Image, Dark Horse, Oni Press, Dynamite and Titan, as well local comics, and I found a lot of interesting stuff that should be noticed and discussed in a thread like this :)

Still, with that taking place in 2009, it doesn't affect any of the other books, which precede those events.
Roses of Berlin covering the likes of The Great Dictator and Fritz Lang's Metropolis made that one book rely more on film, but did a good job of it - I managed to watch Metropolis afterwards, and the book made the Memnoch Machine bigger, giving it a more intimidating look that probably wasn't possible for a live-action depiction, ambitious as it was for its time, but probably wasn't far from the original artistic vision.

The next Nemo book will apparently involve a place called Spectralia, and with the events of Rose of Berlin removing a previously mentioned antagonist from the picture, I wonder who or what will be the threat there, although I'm sure a fair bit of the book will likely involve Janni dealing with the ghost of her old man, or something along those lines - there's certainly been a theme of her reluctantly yet gradually following his legacy in this series, so it's be a fitting conclusion... but as for what it may lead to, who knows...

After that, there's the story told mostly through text in prior books involving

I just kinda feel like Moore has lost his touch as of late, and the repeated use of rape in so much of his work is starting to get uncomfortable. Like I don't think it's revealing anything about him or anything, I just think he overuses it even if the story necessarily requires it. But on the other hand, he could do nothing but sub New 52-level dreck for the rest of his career and it still wouldn't erase his legacy.

Guys. Guys. Guys.

I just. I just don't know anymore. Why the fuck am I still reading Invincible? Kirkman has clearly gone off the deep end, or something. It's reminding me of how The Walking Dead turned into complete crap, but this at least is still doing new stuff, even if it is so, so stupid. This is all too fucking stupid now. What's even the point of all this? When was the last time this comic was fun? It could be alternatively fun and crazy violent, now... like Jesus what. What is even happening anymore.

That's an excellent question. I gave up on that book shortly after Eve told Mark she had an abortion and I finally realized I was reading a cross between Dragonball and Days of our Lives.

Has anyone been reading IDW's Teenage mutant ninja turtles current series? Never was really big on comic books but I got sucked into this starting with issue #5 and now I have all of the main series comics as well as the micro-series pretty decent storyline they have going the only thing I'm not too fond of is how they recently handled the ratking's introduction but thats just a personal gripe

I was with it until they started the one shots and the micro-series, then I fell off. I really like the fresh take they had on the origin.

I also stopped reading early-on, mostly due to the fact that there's so many other, better comics to read. The last issue I can recall reading was the Bebop/Rocksteady one shot, which I found to be enjoyable.

Uhh... like what?

Like Mysterion and The Coon from South Park.

They're clearly based on/parodies of comic book characters (dark brooding vigilantes like Batman in particular) but they have no other relevance to comic books or the like. No comic books or anything of them but they fit in with a comic book based world/theme/discussion/whatever.

Would a comic books thread be an appropriate place for them?

But yeah I love the story they have unfolding in the new turtles comics and I was surprised to be pulled in like this because the only other comics I own are the death of superman and marvel civil war, then again I love tmnt so not that much of a stretch. QUESTION - What is your favorite comic series and which issue do you feel would addict new comers to the series or atleast hook their curiosity?

Probably Nextwave, Sandman, Runaways or Y: The Last Man, or something. The first issues of each do a pretty good job at hooking a new reader, I would think.

^^both. I don't really care for the constant switching of artist for the idw tmnt comic's to be honest, Dan Duncan, Cory Smith, and Mat Santalouco are the best imo but all three artist draw certain characters in ways I wish they didn't for instance I don't like the way Duncan draws splinter he looks like a blind wolf more than a rat. Is this something that happens often in comics? I would have thought changing of artist would be solely for a new series or a reboot of a character not every couple of issues
