Computer Virus or Spyware
#1  July 10, 2008, 08:35:13 am
when i open a folder like my documents or my computer an error message comes up before the folder opens it says

"System Error!"
"Attention, User! Some dangerous trojan horses detected in your system. Microsoft Windows files corrupted. This may leas to the destruction of important files in C://WINDOWS. Download protection software now! Click OK to download antispyware. (Recomended)"

even if i don't click ok and exit out it opens a new tab on my firefox and opens a download for some xp antivirus or spyware program. so do i download it, or is it just an adware/spyware/virus trying to trick me into downloading a program to damage my computer?

it sounds like you don't have a virus and somethings trying to give you one,

as far as i know windows, or Firefox doen't give that message.

as far as i know....

so you probably have some sort of spy ware, already, leading you into more dangerous spyware/trojan

but i'm no expert

Oniberserker, you've already been infected with a virus.
Boot up windows in safe mode, then run a virus scan.

If that doesn't solve the problem, use the program here.

i am now using avast anti virus, spybot search and destroy, malware bytes anti-malware, and spyware blaster. i used them and scanned my comp and things were deleted and i can finally use my disk fragment and checkdisc now, but that message still pops up when i open a folder. i left the windows task manager open to see if i could find out whats controlling the message and when i clicked go to process it is being run by explorer.exe

i thought of using the end  process tree because it said it will end the process and anything that is related to it are causes it to start, but it also says that forcefully terminating the process can cause data loss and system instability. also isn't explorer.exe the thing that lets u see the opened windows and files on ur comp. if i ended it i wouldn't be able to see my start menu and stuff, right? so what do i do. this message that shows up every time i open a folder is really annoying. is there any program that can stop it or show me the source of it so it can be deleted?

hum, i was infected only once in my life with a virus like that, and it's a browser hijacker, some of them dare to encrypt themselves in the explorer and it's a nuisance...

i can only think in what kind of pages you were browsing  o_O :sugoi:

(It was brought inside the C:\ bcoz of some stupid site)

  • Eh, I just live life; what about you?
Okay, just start up in safe mode, scan with whatever you have all at once, make sure it's full for them all and sit back and wait. Once it's done, trash your old fire-wall, and get Zone Alarm, and hook up your browser so that it scans files while you download them, plus be sure to get No S-script. Oh yeah, and stop using Firefox or Internet Explorer; too many holes; I recommend K-Melon or SeaMonkey.

I stopped using Firefox after it hooked up with a Trojan. Now I'm using OPERA

Sorry, but OPERA is way too big for a PC compared to most other browsers I've used. That plus, I can mod SeaMonkey just like FireFox and get it just the same as OPERA.
