Since I posted this at IMT, I might as well post it here so I can get other people's opinions:
Just recently, I've been seeing a couple of M.U.G.E.N creators quitting M.U.G.E.N to make flash games. In my personal opinion, I think it's a stupid hobby. I'm not counting movies and animations, just games. In my personal preference, I don't like making something that takes days to make and last only a few minutes to play. If I quit M.U.G.E.N for example, I would've make stuff for Garry's Mod instead. I prefer to make stuff for a game that you can customize because you can change it up however you want it so it has more replay value. I know it's their choice but I think it would be a bad hobby because it will get boring very quickly. If they want to make games, they should make good ones that last hours like N64Mario's Megaman game engine. What do you guys think? I like to know why flash games over other different hobbies.

AWWWWW!

But who the fuck wrote that? Damnit it was you  >:(. I think we can select our own hobbies thank you very much. And damn I'm sure with skills you can do awesome stuff on Flash aswell. If someone does a horrible game in flash, chances are this guy will also do horrible stuff for MUGEN so no real loss for me.

To be honest 99.9% of the creators who move from mugen to flash are halfassed mugen creators anyway (Good creators either quit mugen and move to real fullgames and even sell their stuff or just quit mugen and move with their lives as a lawyer or some other boring stuff). I'm not sad at all that they leave MUGEN and decide to do crappy flash because if they'll do crappy stuff, it better be outside of my visual range, I dont check flash stuff at all so I wont have to suffer with their crap (And by "suffer" I mean aknowledge their existance)...

the whole "game has more replayability if it can be customized" is true to a certain extent, if you are working on a fighing fullgame for MUGEN it's never as customizable as your own compilation, you dont see people being able to add Ken on KOFZ, it's the same for flash games. I dont do stuff for the people to modify at will, I do stuff because it's my hobbie, it's my hobbie.

I plan to code my own game with C++ but that doesn't mean I'm leaving MUGEN, you should check if those people quit for good or not (Which again, I dont really care).

EDIT: Just saw this and lol its long as hell :P
pls

Indeed, why would you stop creating for a free engine that mostly makes use of copyrighted material with extremely low scope for any sort of monetary gain for an internationally recognised language that can allow you to make a profit.

In M.U.G.E.N there is no magic button

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it's not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance.

Besides, if you mention in your resumé  "experienced developer in Mugen", your employer will think of you as a nerd and then fire you. Otherwise, if you mention "experienced developer in Flash", your employer will probably raise your salary

I don't understand why you're complaining, SolidZone. It's their choice, there is nothing you can do about it. Besides, if they create good flash games and release them, then better for us.

Many years before knowing MUGEN (and even later when I knew it), I tried to learn Flash, and it was harder than hell... the funny (and sad) thing it was I studied advertising in university and never learned me about Flash...

The point is, until today I never learned to use Flash... MUGEN was difficult, too, but it was more fun

Yes, I agree that it is their choice. But is it a good one? I feel when they first make one, it ends up short and won't have any improvements to make people replay it again.

I find this poll hilarious, it's not like flash games is the new hype everyone of us dreams about.
I made "Other" as a choice because it would be a pain if I wrote different hobbies especially there may be some I don't even know.

flash games are old. it's now all about the crappy facebook and iphone games fad.
I consider flash games whoever plays are just young kids that just bored with their life. Games that last for hours are always better than games that last for minutes. If a M.U.G.E.N creator wants to make a flash game that's short, at least make it portable.

Also, you don't know if they will fail the first time or not. And even if they fail, that doesn't mean they won't improve. Don't put everybody in the same sack.

To be honest, 90% of the mugen content is not playable at all anyway. I dont see how that would be different in other communities, check the flash, FM2nd and RPGmaker communities and you'll see they are full of shit aswell. Also since when both flash games and mugen games have a really high replayability rate?

You can't unlock shit in mugen games so once you finish it and check the chars you like (Talking about a mugen fullgame) you have nothing else to do, atleast you can code unlockable things in flash games without using stuff outside of the game itself like .rar files with passwords.
pls

I'm actually a member of a flash games site called Kongregate. Flash games have many benefits over playing official games.

1) New game pretty much every day, there is always a gem or 2 among the crap
2) you're less locked down to a developer, WAY more ideas than random FPS
3) you pay nothing
4) if you don't like the game you lose nothing but a few minutes and can move to the next, there is no installation, or ridiculous loading times.
5) if you like achievements on kongregate at least there are 2, both the ones IN the games, and those the site awards you. Only decent games get these so it's actually a pretty good filter.

The thing they don't have, is mega beautiful 3D graphics, but you don't need those to enjoy the massive variety of flash games out there. It's not just TD's. I've played some remarkably fun, replayable and more than "a few minutes" games that i would have paid for had i known they were as good as they were. I played Elona Shooter for about 2 months, it took THAT LONG to get the hardcore badge achievement.

Yes, we are discriminated against. To end the stigma we should use the mugen engine to create a quickbooks type program or word processor. Then lets see who they are calling nerd.

flash games are old. it's now all about the crappy facebook and iphone games fad.

Alot of those games are flash-based games.

Personally, I want to do flash games to build enough revenue to have a choice between doing another flash project, a console project, and a mugen project.

What kind of flash games?

Besides, if you mention in your resumé  "experienced developer in Mugen", your employer will think of you as a nerd and then fire you. Otherwise, if you mention "experienced developer in Flash", your employer will probably raise your salary

I think you wouldn't list it that way, anyways. You would list experimenting with fighting-game theory over the engine.

There isn't really any reason someone can't have multiple hobbies.
i think we should call it an "engine" so we don't look like total idiots because otherwise we'd be arguing about a "game" and that would be somehow "dumber" than arguing about an "engine" on the "internet" for countless hours
