I never really got Zabel's relation to basketball, but who cares it's one of the coolest moves in the game.
There is a factor when you know a game is awesome, its when someone new playing at it will actually go like "Oh wow did I just.." It happened in Jojo bizarre against pots as well, seeing someone "falling in love" with a game is an awesome thing.

I fully condone the Lucky Glauber, Sean, Zabel team for any game whether warranted or not in the story, though CVS3 would be best for it of course.
