well... short stuff...

since it's one of the greatest moments of humanity...
what do you think about it?

I've been really skeptical about it... and mostly because recent events, like NASA missing all the original files (and planes) for apollo missions or google moon, when you can see just a "paint" image in the place that missions were supposed to happen...

this thread tends to flamewars, se keep it civil, share ideas and opinions!!  :sugoi:

hahaha... I remember that video!!
funny one...

yeah I'm serious, I think most of americans believe in the moon landing, but here on my city, with a few people I have talked about this, it's like a 8/10 that don't believe it...

what it's intriguing is that google moon doesn't show you  images of the moon landings, instead you see a gray image (like something made with paint just with NASA or USA name ---can't remember right now---)

mod position to me :P

We went to the moon and we didn't find any oil, so we left for good.

Well.
There are certainly events of people going to the open space wich was witnessed by thousands, and not only official, faces.
There are also cases of people returning from space...heavily poisoned with radiation.....[one person on the news, long ago..]
Honestly ...yeah people went there...but now that you saying all this, i cant recall hearing about any of those people anymore.
Theoretically i dont think anyone who could reach moon would be able to get back home on earth.
Trying in doing so would result landing capsule smashing into tiny pieces, and body particles wont be recognizeble.
I believe this reqauires some heavy research before answering your direct question.
And yes people have gone to the moon...but i am not sure if they reached it or came back.

now that you mention "radiation"
what about van allen radiation?

far as I know, it's supposed that humans are not capable to cross that radiation (cosmonauts were miles away from it, and suffer his effects)... to cross that line you need a wall of at least 1 mt of Iron or more (iirc), but apolo ship was just 1 inch thick...

also cosmonauts were the first on send an animal, satelite, human, etc etc etc to space... (pretty much ALL)... surprising enough was that americans could send a man to the moon at first try (before they can't even land some artifacts there :/)

again, cosmonauts were asked... why you don't go to the moon?
tha answer was... "it's not possible"

they bring moonrocks as souvenirs, the video might be faked, to show more epic landing  in 60's movie style along with the narrator and corny quotes, but they do landed in maybe less dramatic way to worth a public video, or nasa were not confidence enough to make a live video of it.

this moon landing conspiracy is old and rather stupid IMO

You do know that it is made out of titanium right? Or at least the return pod is. The whole shit does not make it back.

A rocket is strapped to a big gas tank, it is launched into space, half of the shit falls off before it even gets away from the outer part of the biosphere, then what is left flies to the moon and circle in its gravity. Then then they launch a lander. Then when they want to come back the top part of the lander launches in less gravity and no atmosphere. Half of the lander is left behind. Then what is left of the lander meets what is left of the rocket. They use the g forces of the moons gravity to sling shot back at the earth, then they use the titanium pod to return to earth and the rest of the shit stays in space.

That is why the shuttle is so cool, a lot less trash left behind, but it can't go into open space and return.

We should seriously look into colonising the moon. The tech is there now. Once you make enough initial headway extra people will = only things going up there.

And the moon is a far better staging platform for rockets and shit. Less gravity means less effort to leave it therefore less fuel.

More than just money. no atmosphere means that it would be easy for a rock to hit anything will build there, and unlike the station, we can't just move it.

I have heard that were thinking about making a dark side base in a cavern for protection.

The idea is that telescopes would work better on the dark side and like Cy said we can use it for blasting off and returning at a cheaper price tag then sending shit from our rock.

I also heard that they were planing on mining asteroids on the dark side, that was bush plan, that they just scratched. Now it sounds like we are putting all our money into Mars missions and research.

I guess that Bush wanted to build some expensive shit to go there, last I heard Obama's plan was Apollo like ships that would get there in 2025 or so.

talking about rockets, there's one in development right now that has the potential to get us to mars within a month from leaving earth, as opposed to our current rockets which would take nine months from earth. a moon base would be incredible, but technology is moving at such a rapid pace that it could be a waste of money to do so.

that's why I write the "iirc"... need to check that...

having a base on the moon is a risk, even if it requires less effort, I think it would be more dangerous since it has not atmosphere and any garbage can hit things on the moon...

the same goes with japan (or china), they cancel his moon project

Build? Hell no. Dig. Underground colony. Good 10 feet of rock should stop most of the mini meteors causing leaks. Sure, standard buildings would be a waste. But you don't want to cart building material up. Just things that can dig. Then, when you have a large hole in the ground you start using the material you excavated for interiors.

This wouldn't be short, but it would be a fucking awesome staging area. Shove solar panels everywhere and some good storage batteries, you'll almost NEVER be without power for too long. Probably the biggest issues are water, and oxygen. Hydroponics does a bit, you'd need a decent startoff and there would probably be rationing involved. Moon base should be where the earth is headed.

Soviet's mir were floating there in the open for 15 years, and how about our sattelites.
sure there will be impact from time to time, but it can be repaired. and since it is usually built in modules, then the damage can be easily localized, to be fixed or replaced.
