Yeah but they move the stations and satellites and stuff out of the way crap when they see it coming. On the moon that option is gone and unlike a satellite the moon has gravity so it acts as a freaking magnet for space junk. The earth is like that too, but the difference is you are not attached to the magnet so you run for your life.

I think a moonbase would also semi permanent station, and can move when any serious impact is predicted, or when they found better camping spot.
beside moon rotation is equal to its orbital, so it is practically much saver to build a camping ground on the side than always facing the earth  :)
since the junks that happen to pass between earth and moon (maybe only satelites junks) would be sucked by earth' gravity more than moon'

while asteroid will most likely hit the back side of the moon

It's mostly small meteors. Like, they'd hammer a normal building, but they aren't going to get all the way through 10 feet of rock. Big ones, well, you'd be scanning for them and breaking them before they got there. A catapult to fire another rock would do it. You wouldn't need explosives at all.

Have you not noticed the big giant holes on the light side of the moon. Those were not made by water they were made by great big flying rocks.

Probably the biggest issues are water, and oxygen. Hydroponics does a bit, you'd need a decent startoff and there would probably be rationing involved. Moon base should be where the earth is headed.

on that note, the rocket they shot into a crater in the moon a while ago was done exactly to test for the presence of ice to use as a resource for any future moon installations. most of the bigger/deeper craters that cover the surface are believed to hold a great amount of water in ice form. as for oxygen it's my understanding that, aside from air tanks, the space station in orbit now has a kind of "recycle" process for breathable air.  basically waste water and any humidity is absorbed into a system that electrolyzes them, then separates the hydrogen particles from oxygen, and leaves breathable air. the tanks of compressed air are only used in emergencies. if they find a large volume of ice in a crater, they could theoretically set up a base that could remain largely self-sustaining for decades. the only thing they would need is food, which i'm sure they'd get in pretty large quantities from earth.

I think the asteroids impact was more frequent at the younger age of our solar system, and since universe seems to be pulling away farther from each other it will make less collitions, and also like I said earth which is a bigger magnet would probably suck them in before it bruises the moon, and even if it will hit the moon, I think those base is more or less like a camping site where the oversized caravans can more.

part of the waste water, i.e. pee, is recycled into drinkable water on the space station as well. i'm sure they're hard at work trying to figure out how to make a working stillsuit, though.

yeah, and those are a lot of them...
according to what I know, last impact was thousands of years ago, and the "trash" (parts of the moon and meteor) get into the surface of Earth, turned black from the atmosphere... it was all written and documented in all of those residues, and they were sold at highly prices... (my dad has one, but for free!!)

haven't watched that... last time I search for info about it, the only thing I find was a more (yeah more) distant image and a lot more blury, it was even a offense to call it a evidence xD

this thread tends to flamewars, se keep it civil, share ideas and opinions!!  :sugoi:
If you want this thread to be taken seriously why would you put the "mod position" option in the poll?

Anyway, they did this on Mythbuster and proved all the skeptics wrong. Every popular example of alleged fraud of the moon landed was put to the test and all resulted in proof of man being on the moon.

One main thing that I remember was that there was no way for them to fake the low gravity effect of the astronauts bouncing around.
I can understand the skepticism though. When you look at the footage, the lighting and background look too perfect, but you have to remember that they were in space and a lot of elements of terrestrial atmosphere and surroundings wouldn't apply.

...gets away from the outer part of the biosphere...
Biosphere and atmosphere have nothing to do with each other, or better yet, the biosphere is not a layer of the atmosphere.

I would like to see that program, will search for it on youtube...

but I have seen the other side of the coin :P

it seems to be the easiest thing to fake, and there's like 2 videos (or more) that are strange, one when you can see a cable on the astronaut, and another when he gets up in reverse, like if a cable send him back (seriously, that doesn't look possible to human body even if gravity is not the same, he doesn't even touch the ground or something to take a bit impulse, he just got back suddenly)... also by the gravity... just do what most conspiracy videos says... watch the video at 2x speed and they look plain stupid running around like everyone can do it here on earth (gravity looks even the same, dust, etc)

can't remember exactly were I saw that, since I have seen a lot of documentals of both sides (official ones and the "conspiracy" ones too)...

I doubt this pool option will make any flamewar... or that "joke" is like... heey don't take this thread serious... (?)

I don't even mention "serious" just keep it civil and share ideas... since there's a lot of people (in other places) that just say stuff like... "we did, you idiot, conspiracy fag" and that's all his argument (and worst when you see they are ignorant and "talk" just to piss off other people)

what it's interesting (at least here) is that one of my teachers, and some old people that listen to a radio program when they talk about this... they said this apollo missions are fake, that they were recorded in Mexico, in Sonora (it's near to my city) and they give the same name of the place, but I can't remember it right now... they said, NASA boys come here with militars, and "futuristic" stuff, prepared all that like a moon landing and filmed... the access to be near to the zone was denied, and they record all those videos and images there...
so the question is...

could be that the case?
or just a hollywood movie? (strange to use militar people in there)

like I said the video probably faked, maybe the actual recorded video sucked so bad, who can make a representative video coverage with a camera fitted to his chest.

but I believe the missions were real. some skeptics might said the ability of a computer at that time was not much advanced than a calculator, but that's what needed, a calculator, since the mission was manned and the only thing need to be done with the computer was to calculate. with each technician calculate specific parameter, it should be enough to make them land to an object as big as moon, or to ditch themself back in the ocean.

c'mon Nio, from where then those large quantity of moon rocks came from, since they are different than those very rare moon rock asteroids that has been burned by atmosphere.
