Do you care about graphics consistency

When I planned my mugen I was sure that I didn't want a crazy game with funny chars (Mario, Popeye, Kirbi, etc) or manga chars (Dragon Ball, etc) because my idea was to create a game which looks and feels consistent and modern (not very old stages and chars). Most of my chars are KOF style. The problem comes with Capcom. Their chars from SF Alpha series have two problems: they are too cartoonish and they look too wide (cps2 res has tall pixels). I'd really like to have Capcom chars in my mugen but I feel that they don't really fit in the game from the aesthetic point of view. Of course I have the Capcom chars from SVC and some from the Capcom vs SNK series, but I really miss Honda, Zangief, Blanka, Sakura, Dhalsim, etc. Does this happen to you too? I don't know if I should be more permissive and let these chars in my mugen. Others I have from Rage of the Dragons are a little closer to the KOF look, as well as the chars from Melty Blood. SF3 also has simmilar problems: chars look too big in comparison with the rest, and I don't even want to think about the idea of reescaling.

The solution is clear. Use CvS/Jojo's Bizarre Adventure chars which in generally are scaled when you download them (except for Khan and Rubber Soul).

Graphics consistency?  Is that some kind of new unreleased character or something?

Now you can never unsee it.

I've decided to discard all the sprites that don't have right proportions. Scaling is a worse solution for me than distortion. I took a look at the cns of some of the cvs chars (Sakura, Dan, Guile, etc) and I realized that the proportions were not 1.0 but 0.8 or so. That was the reason these chars looked bad. If you set the scales to 1.0 they look right (like the original graphics), but too wide. Maybe scaling works fine with high res, but not in low res. I need low res because I use my mugen with an ArcadeVGA card in 321x240 15khz non-interlaced. Anyway, I have a selection of more than 200 chars, so I think it's enough. Stages count more than 300 now, and they're a strict selection. I'll post a video of my mugen when it's finished. I'm specially happy with the screenpack. I got elements from SNK vs Capcom Ultimate Mugen, World Warrior X, Capcom Mugen Evolution Max, and many original material. My intention is to create a pack which is better than anything I have downloaded. I hope it's finished soon because I go to bed every night at 2:00 am or so, and this must not be good for my health hehe.

  • Who am I?
I'd have to say I do. That's why I split characters of the different "groups" into different screenpacks.

i.e. CvS/SFZ group, MvC/Marvel/X-Men group, SNK/KOF/NBC/SVC group, and MK group.

I also do this because characters from the same or similar group tend to fit the gameplay better and I try to eliminate handicaps. (Yeah, I know it's crazy asking for balance in Mugen.)

The Jojo and Meltyblood groups don't have their own screenpacks right now so I'm rarely playing them.
