So this isn't real but it's super awesome and it's just making August seem that much farther away.

Reviving the thread with some interesting news, all of this is about possible new contents for Series 8 and spinoffs, but in the end all depends of Moffat (ugh). Let the speculation feast begins!!

-After the success of The Night of the Doctor there're rumours about a spinoff for Eighth Doctor to tell more between 1996 movie and TNOTD (audios and comics becoming a series??), and Paul McGann is also agree to be Eighth if this becomes true, as he stated in Doctor Who Magazine #472

Years ago right after Zombieland came out I thought, man wouldn't it be perfect if there was a weekly zombie TV series....a few months later they announced the Walking Dead. Right after watching Night of the Doctor I had the same feeling as I did with Zombieland. It's that "perfect idea" feeling.

They better do it because it would enrich the core essence of the show (imagine watching two timelines developing in tandem) and I can imagine it being done right, especially after seeing how NOTD played out.  And then when it comes time for a multi-Doctor episode we can see how both timelines converge properly, instead of imagining (or shoehorning) what part of the timeline could this have happened for the previous Doctor(s). I mean it's nit-picky shit, but this is a nit-picky show....and a great man once said, "...the difference between good and great, is in the details".

Anyway, I wouldn't expect a full series, I wouldn't think they'd be able to do even half a series.  It should be something like one 15 min webisode bi-weekly. Have it run a month or so after the main series season wraps and start a month after the main series starts.
I have no idea how much this shit costs and I know they have more financial backing now more than ever...so who knows.

I would like to see it too, but since Moffat managed DW, all the spinoffs ended for various reasons (Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures, K-9), so I hope this time he would make something new spinoff... unless he just focus Sherlock and DW as it now

Also, somebody saw this awesome crossover with Rocky Horror Picture Show?? :D

Well, to be fair, one ended because the main actress died of cancer, and another was sold to the US (who then left it in the drawer) because monies... It doesn't have much to do with Moffat.

I just finished watching Season 1 of the new Dr Who series. Had never watched the old series. I really enjoyed it. Needless to say I won't be able to read most of this thread since I'm so far behind =p

How intricate is Torchwood and other spin offs tied to Dr Who? Should I try to watch them like I did with Buffy and Angel? Having to find an online episode order guide to keep up with the crossing storylines?

I'll really have to watch Torchwood. Jack was a really cool character in S1

Torchwood hasn't got that much of an impact in Doctor Who. You'll be fine with just looking over the plot.

Sarah Jane Adventures had 2 crossover episodes with Who but they also aren't important to the Who plot. I do recommend them though.

They're directly tied, there are crossovers even. Both Tennant and Smith crossed into SJA, and there's at least one character from DW (beside the main character of course) crossing into Torchwood, but I don't remember if there's more, I don't think there is. Same universe, but completely different views. Torchwood are the guys who shoot first and talk later, and though I've only watched a few episodes of SJA (those where the Doctor crossed over), I think it's more the "kid-like" aspect of the universe - lots of talking, lots of gadgets. Never touched K-9.

Torchwood's seasons 1 and 2 were great even without seeing them as a spin-off of Doctor Who, season 3 was a bit weird, season 4 was AMERICA, in itself it was decent, it had some nice ideas, but it was just getting further and further away from Doctor Who. If you do burn through Torchwood before Doctor Who, when you get back to DW, you'll see some stuff that make you see where they are in the middle of Torchwood, but you can watch Torchwood without bothering about where in DW it is (it doesn't spoil DW).

JNP, Torchwood appears in Series 2 in the beginning of David Tennant/Tenth Doctor and it's an important part of this season as the main theme (as "Bad Wolf" was for Series 1)

one ended because the main actress died of cancer
I'm still in mourning for Sarah Jane :'( also I'm watching the Fourth Doctor aventures on Dailymotion (I found an user who added spanish subtitles to chapters but I'm still looking for the latin spanish dub made in the 70s)

Torchwood was 'Doctor Who for Grownups' while Sarah Jane Adventures was 'Doctor Who for Kids.'  There is some cross continuity, and either the series 3 or 4 finale winds up in a big crossover with characters from all 3 of them, but you don't really need to watch the spin-offs to know what's going on in the main series.

To Iced (aka Just No Point),
If you liked season 1 you're gonna love the show.
Also, unless you're into camp, try to ease into the classic episodes. They're super low budget an might be a turn off, without getting to know the (new) show better first.
I've seen a couple episodes of all the spin-offs. I should watch Torchwood.

Spoiler: Semi off topic (click to see content)

To Iced (aka Just No Point),
aka? Me and Iced are not the same person. I mean, Iced is pretty unstable though. I suppose The Dreamslayer could have simply never returned and Iced hijacked his account and set up an alternate persona that he could argue and discuss things with. Hmmm, the whole staff could be alternate Iced personas and he's just talking to himself in the staff board. A lot makes sense now!

I don't think I'd be able to get into the old series. I'm a huge Star Trek fan but don't really care much for the original series of that either. Not to mention I have like 8 or 9 seasons of this Dr Who to catch up on and I won't be able to watch it very often because I'm always busy with something.

He's talking about Basara calling you Iced a couple posts above.

I've tried watching the original series, I stopped in the middle of the First Doctor. I do know that the First had its own objective (trying to be some sort of edutainment) and they changed it in the middle, but... I dunno, I didn't really get into it.

Ah, I actually assumed Iced had posted on a previous page and Basara was actually talking to him. And this is a new day so I totally forgot about that post.

Sorry man, I was refered to you, but I was mistaken by Iced since I posted that rushing in my job and I'd no time to fix it later, so sorry :(
But yeah, the first appearance of Torchwood was in Season 2, after that season they made Torchwood spin-off,I guess you should see that complete to understand better about Torchwood ;)

Paul McGann delivers the ending monologue from Day of the Doctor as the Eighth Doctor.

I've just recently finished all of the Eighth Doctor audio stories, and Paul McGann has really become one of my absolute favorite Doctors.  He brings such incredible passion into the role.  If you haven't yet, do yourself a favor and check out his work with the Big Finish DW audio dramas.  He's incredible.

I would like to hear any audios from DW, but I don't know where to start and how to understand well that (UK english is still a trouble to me without subtitles). McGann is awesome, totally awesome, I just read some of his comic book adventures only (from RadioTimes basically) and I want to search more ;)

  • Does this looks like the face of mercy?
well, might as well post this here but i found some funny "dalek" ringtones:
http://www.kasterborous.com/2012/10/dalek-ringtones-and-sounds-for-your-smartphone/

not the most convincing dalek voice but it gets credit for saying things like:
- "Inferior species attempting to communicate. I will exterminate"
- "Respond to incoming call. Obey Obey Obey"
- "You have received a tweet. I will exterminate the sender"
- ... etc

i also wanted to share this really good doctor who/my little pony crossover comic (feauturing my favorite background pony: der... lyra!):
http://edowaado.deviantart.com/art/This-is-where-it-gets-complicated-294768080

there's also a prequel (and just like most prequels it will spoil the revelations made in the comic... or not, i haven't read it yet. i'm too lazy:
http://edowaado.deviantart.com/art/Foresight-I-m-Not-Your-Hero-Part-1-393037645

it's really good and both doctor who and MLP fans will enjoy it it might even get you interested in the other franchise you were not interested in. the only person in this thread i know who also likes MLP besides me is discord man

heck, i got into doctor who because of MLP (not this comic, but all the other fanworks out there plus the doctor's ponyfication in the show itself).eitehr way, give it a read, it's good and the artwork improves as the comic goes on (that said i do hope you like surpised expressions :o)

there's also a christmas special if you want to just take a sneak peak:
