10 and 11 were always sorry, so sorry.

12 could not possibly be less sorry.

I still can't quite put to words how I feel about Capaldi's run so far.  I can say I really appreciate how he's such a drastic shift from the last couple, but... somehow, every time the Doctor tries to do something nice, it winds up feeling out of character.  He's so mean to Clara and pretty much everyone else that it seems odd he'd bother to try and save anyone, let alone whisk Clara off to see neat things across space and time.  Maybe his character will click with the season finale or something but that seems like an awful long time to leave your character a muddled mess, so I suppose I'm probably just not "getting" this Doctor.

Though thinking about how mean this Doctor is, suddenly I kinda hope this whole Promised Land thing involves standing all these people there up in front of him and saying "These are all the people you couldn't save" hoping to elicit a response only to have the Doctor respond "So fucking what?"

Just finished S5. All around I wasn't much impressed with the season as a whole ep by ep. But as usual the finale was really great and tied so much of the season together! I LOVE season finalies on this show!

Watched 2 eps of S6 and Matt Smith is finally starting to grow on me in these 2 eps. This season looks like it'll be much improved from S5. And I'm very excited to see Crowley from Super Natural fame getting roles in this show. I love that actor in SN and he's done fabulous work on Dr Who for the 2 eps I saw him in.

Now I want a SuperNatural/Dr Who cross over!

Attack of the killer Mr. Game & Watch!  ;D

The creatures in that episode were pretty unsettling, I have to say.  The Doctor's big speech at the end has me feeling like they're going to be setting those things up as the next recurring baddies à la the Weeping Angels, and honestly I think I'd be okay with that.  Hostile beings from a 2-dimensional universe attempting to breach and invade our 3 dimensional one is a pretty solid concept, with a lot of room for exploration.

Dunno, there wouldn't be much to do, the Doctor already knows how to handle them, and even through this episode, the only difficulty was that the TARDIS got caught (as usual), but as soon as he came out he banished them with a pimp slap. Recurrent baddies like the Weeping Angels are a constant threat and there's rarely any specific way to send them off.
I like how we're getting brand new bad guys, it's a real change of pace from the previous few seasons, where you would always go "oh no, not these guys again" (I hated the Weeping Angels myself). But at the same time, it often ends up with a "oh, okay, those guys were new and they did some very weird stuff, is that over and done now, then ?", it relies very strongly on the quality of the twist and the way the Doctor resolves the case. Still better than some of the attempts of the 11th Doctor at hyping something new ("dinosaurs in space ! Alien-hunting robot in the wild west !") but ending up with something super common and boring.

... BTW I found it pretty odd that 12th tried to redo the Eleventh Hour "this planet is protected" speech. It felt cheap and obviously repeated, it doesn't work as well the second time (even though the first time was awesome).

I finally just finished Time of the Doctor! I'm almost caught up!

As such I went back and read in this thread more that I couldn't read earlier. Why do some of you seem to dislike Moffat? Any time I see his name in the credits I get really excited! Someone mentioned that there was a complaint about too much fanservice in Day of the Doctor... What better reason to give fanservice than the 50th special. Which was fabulous!

All in all Matt Smith was a very good Dr. I still prefer Tennant though. Smith just never really felt fleshed out. Now to jump on the Capaldi train!

"... I hope I'm right. It'd be slightly awkward if the world was destroyed at this point ! (chuckle)" and lots of the Doctor's other lines. Oh god, this Doctor, so dark and harsh, so good.
I didn't understand who the girl at the end was.

Well ! One thing a lot of people suspected, and one thing no one saw coming (well, two). Not too great, but the setup was awesome.

Oh, right,
Why do some of you seem to dislike Moffat?
I myself don't dislike him, but I didn't really like a lot of the things he did with 11th, and sometimes it wasn't really going anywhere, some stuff were repetitive, and some of the new stuff was dragging. It was a bit too "safe" yet trying to appear new and daring to build hype. Also, self-important. Contrast with 12th which is going all over the goddamn place and it's great.

I really don't care about Clara enough to push her into a role like the one you imagine. It was bad enough when they insisted very hard that Amy Pond was so wonderful (I hate her), it'd really piss me off if they did that again with Clara.
Agreed on the Missy nonsense, the twist was fun but they really have a lot of explaining to do.

all i can say is that those tennant x simm shippers must have the weirdest boner right now

also, does this increase the possibility of a female doctor in the future (but most likely still not ginger)?

I'd say it strengthens it as a viable option for a Time Lord, but actually making the Doctor a woman would be a big step. They've taken risks before (starting with forfeiting the "young hottie for panty-magnet" for an old grumpy asshole), but it'd have to be very special. If it's still on board to last a decade or so, I could see it happen halfway there. Making the Master one was also pretty daring, it might even be them testing the water.

say, what would be the doctor who equivalent of the expression: "a wizard did it"?

It just seems like it'd be a fitting conclusion for Clara.  I'm not saying I want the Doctor to start referring to the Tardis as Clara or for the Tardis to start talking to the Doctor in her voice or anything like that, it'd really just be an excuse to play with the Tardis' behavior and a convenient opening for Clara to make an appearance in anniversary or seasonal specials as needed.
