These are the Lightning effects I was talking about (borrowed a bit from Ky and Justice):

Of course, I've also used Benimaru's Lightning Effects on occasion as well.  They tend to look a lot nicer on black background, but still in some cases the effect is fuzzy, like Greed Sever.

so your trying to high res.. high res sprites?..
I wouldn't consider that a infinite since you have to make your opponent bounce of the wall and if you do it on the wrong side of the stage the stage interaction would activate.

They might seem hi-rez, but if you ask me they're nowhere near the quality I've seen for games like CVS2, even if those sprites are smaller by comparison.  Maybe it's a personal bias.  At the very least I'd like to try doing my own lightning sprites (for other effects) and learn how to do it here...

For the one on the bottom right corner it's basically the same as the example used in the first post (the blade part can be kept as a separare layer so it stays sharp). For the rest I suppose you can just smoothen them a tiny bit and add a layer with glow.

Mr Fong had a nice script for these but I dunno wth happened to him.
Use anything you want from my works.  If you need to contact me use email, not private messages.

Mr. Fong is dead.

there's a good filter for scaling purposes called blow-up, it's the best for flame effects because he sorta adds a ripple effect to it, but it looks good with energy blasts too, tho you'll have to sharpen it a bit. look around for it, kisses.

mail me if anything...

Gaussian, Radial, and normal blur. I don't like using Ripples on my FX, never turns out well for me.
Another pic, Frame 1 of shoryuken:

I'd like to know how you made it glow so well...I can't seem to do that in Photoshop.

Just testing

Greyscale -> 200% scale -> Radial Blur (zoom 50%) -> extra layer with wave filter and overlay mask (except the first one)

Looks kinda strange, anyway.

look cool IMO, original at least just try and set the radial blur source a lil better, if its well placed it gives a hi res effect, if not it looks like plain blur, oposite of hi res

Dunno if he does the same way as I do, but I do like this:
After the fx is finished, I duplicate the merged layers, then blur it, the higher the blur the higher the glow, then set the duplicate layer to Lighten.

nowhere near the quality I've seen for games like CVS2

LOL!
The effects in CvS2 kind of suck, they are pixlated as hell.

Yes!  Very vivid!  I'd love to know how you did that!  ;D

Here's a question though...how do you keep smooth color transition when working with 256 palettes on things like this?
