So I've been spriting for a very long time (like 7 or so years) but stopped 2 years ago due to some issues... but I recently took it up again so my skills may be a little rusty.

SF3/CPS3 Heihachi Mishima
this one is pretty much finished.

SF3 3rd Strike Heihachi Mishima select art (used his TTT2 render as a base)

(unfinished) still need to do the hair and maybe redo his right arm and gi, but I really like how the face turned out.

more to come soon.
Thus Buddha Sakyamuni was born a prince, but voluntarily took to the mendicant's staff; and Francis of Assisi, the founder of the mendicant orders who, as a youngster at a ball, where the daughters of all the notabilities were sitting together, was asked:
"Now Francis, will you not soon make your choice from these beauties?"
and who replied: "I have made a far more beautiful choice!"
 "Whom?"
 "La povertà (poverty)":
whereupon he abandoned every thing shortly afterwards and wandered through the land as a mendicant.

I really dig the Heihachi sprite, and that portrait too, hotdamn. Really close to the SFIII 3rd Strike art style. I love it.

part of an animation I'm doing.
I tried to make it close to the Tekken left punch as much as I can, but before I make the other frames I need a little help with the top half part of the sprite, mainly in the chest area and folds

Hello Electrifyin, good work on those Heihachi sprites, and especially that SF3 3rd Strike portrait look great!
I went ahead and fixed up that chest and arm, I'm not an expert on SF3 spriting but I think it's pretty good.
Also, don't let the baggy-ness of his pants go to your head, it's probably already getting a bit too wide on this punch sprite.

Good luck and I hope you can use the edit I did. I think the muscle definition on his right arm (the one I did) can be better, but the chest looks pretty good I think (the way you were going it looked like the chest was coming out too large, the pecks being too flat and box-y). Mine has collarbones showing above his pecks though I'm not sure if SF3 sprites usually have those.

wow thanks man I'm a big fan of your works and DBZ in general, and I really appreciate your help with the chest and arm thanks man.
I think the muscle definition on the right arm is great, and the chest, but I'm really sure SF3 does not have collarbones showing mainly because I studied Alex's sprites alot but I'll be sure to use your improvement, and again thanks man. (I think I use the word man too much.)

thanks man, so I made a SF3 Vegeta (because he is my favorite character from DBZ) similar to the Freeza sprite Diepod made long ago. His face is mostly based on Kazuya Mishima mainly because I have seen a little resemblance to ol'veggie in some of his Tekken artworks.

The base used for the stance was taken from Balthazar's live action Akuma and the boots and gloves palette was from Diepods Freeza, I'm not really happy how his legs from the knee to the crotch turned out, but all in all I like how it looks.

sorry for the necrobump.
I updated well a bit my Heihachi SF3 select screen art, I removed some of the pixelated parts and give it an overall cleaner look and I think makes it look more like Daigo Ikeno's art,  and I plan to make a few more notably Shanoa , Demitri and Hitmonchan.

Also I need help with the hair well because I don't know what the hell to do with it, I tried many way but still could not get it right.

It looks nice but I think it could look even better and more like sf3 with some simple tips.

Use this image as reference to these tips.
Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty
-Make a pencil drawing. It can be pretty loose but try to keep your main lines dark compared to your sketch lines. Scan your image in at good resolution. open it in photoshop. go to image/adjustments/threshold. Play with this until you get desired look for your line work.

-Make your line work a new layer, keep this layer on top. Erase all the white background of your line drawing.

-on a clean white layer (beneath your line work layer) you will begin your color work.

-box in flat base colors to each part of your character.

If you look at the image in the spoiler you will find clues to how the artwork was colored. I find the changing the opacity and flow down on your brush really helps to beth this look. also be sure to make your brush fairly hard, you don't want this to look like airbrush.

-Layer your colors over top of each other to get some blending but don't go to crazy on it. I recommend using magic wand to select your base colors while working. I also like to duplicate my base color layer to it is easy to reselect base color sections in the future. This will keep your separate colors from overlapping each other.

-start off concentrating on getting your work to look like the hi res versions of sf3 portraits. You will get that chunkier sf3 look later once you resize your image (in nearest neighbor) and color index it.

I hope this helps you out. I'm not saying start over from scratch. This is just the way I know.

hey, thanks man this will really help me out in the future, but now I'm kinda done on Heihachi's portrait except for maybe a few changes from what I read from your post, and the hair again. but thanks I really appreciate the help from an SF3 pro like you.
