Well that's cool-

Quote
The new show will reteam director Sam Raimi with longtime producing partner Rob Tapert

YEAH, that's great, huge fan of the Hercules era shows and Spartacus, should be-

Quote
Sam writing and directing

If you close your eyes, your life a naked truth revealed
Dreams you never lived and scars never healed
In the darkness light will take you to the other side
And find me waiting there, you'll see if you just close your eyes.
If you just close your eyes.
If you just close your eyes.

He will have his doombots spreading awareness tags on twitter "STOPFANTASTICFOUR" and start publishing blogs about why "Fantastic four is OVER". Best Doom yet.

It is at this point I can only assume that nobody involved with this project had actually heard of the Fantastic Four until about they were already done with, like, 90% of the script.  It's really looking more and more like these people honestly thought they were inventing an entirely new franchise and weren't told it was an existing property until it was too late to change most of it.

I dunno  I can see someone unironically go like "Dr doom is too campy, what does he use? Doombots? What if they were INTERNET BOTS"

The director is like a super nerd and has done a movie explaining death of superman that was pretty neat.

This feels like the third time I've told you this but that's not right. The director of Chronicle is directing the Fantastic Four reboot; the screenwriter of Chronicle (who also made that Death of Superman video) is not involved in any way. >:[

and speaking of desperate movie studios with no goddamn idea how best to use their licensed intellectual properties, throwing literally anything at the wall and hoping it sticks: Sony is reportedly considering making a solo Aunt May movie, a period piece wherein she's a young, sexy spy. You know, which Aunt May is known for. Being a spy.

Yep.

I HAVE EVEN MORE IMPORTANT NEWS MAYBE: the Fantastic Four reboot will have a new origin for Doctor Doom.

Are you ready for it? Sit down, make sure you're not drinking anything so you don't spit it out laughing: Doctor Doom will have a new name (Victor Domashev, because Victor Von Doom isn't grounded and realistic enough), and he will be an evil blogger/programmer whose handle is "Doom"

Imagine if Marvel and Disney had taken this route.
Thomas "Thor" Odinson (so named for his prowess in high school football) is the heir to a massive fortune accrued by his father who is CEO of the enormous international "Asgard" company, one of the world's leading military weapons and technology developers. The rebellious Thomas gains possession of the state of the art weapon MJOLNIR which becomes coded to his genetic signature, much to the ire of his adopted brother, Lorne Odinsson. Lorne has aspirations of taking control of Asgard and has prodigious skills as a hacker, gaining him the online nickname of "L0K1".

Guardians of the Galaxy:

An orphan named Peter Quill was picked up by a gang of pirates preying on cargo ships on international waters. Quill betrays them to get hands on "the stone", a device containing data for the most dangerous computer virus in the world. This makes him the target of Roland "Rocket" Anderson, a bearded bounty hunter with dwarfism and anger problems as well as "Groot", a tall, incredibly strong man with severe brain damage that renders him unable to say anything but "I am Groot". He is also chased by Gal Gamora, an Israeli former Mossad hired gun and the adopted daughter of Middle Eastern dictator "Thaddeus Nos", one of the most feared terrorists in the world. She is currently under the employ of R0N4N, a cyber terrorist and anarchist. R0N4N plans to use the "Infinity Virus" to shut down all communications in North America, causing widespread chaos.

While trapped in an Iranian prison, Peter Quill, Gamora, Rocket and Groot meet "Damien Racks", a man who lost his family after R0N4N stole his identity and framed him for hacking into secure government files. Together, they form an unlikely bond and decide to stop R0N4N.

Seriously though this damn thing will be such a massive trainwreck that I'll actually watch it.

It's like they live in a world where Guardians of the Galaxy wasn't the most successful movie of the year.

Let us take this quote from God Grant Morrison and apply it to all bad adaptations.

I think it makes them more tolerable:
Quote
"I think it’s better for the fans to have different type of Batman, especially with Batman having so many viable interpretations. It’s hard to do Batman wrong actually. I like to see all the different versions of him. I think it’s great that the All Star Batman & Robin The Boy Wonder version is out there as well because he is another take on it. I don’t necessarily agree with everything [writer] Frank [Miller] is doing with it but I think it’s great. And I love the way that he just takes no prisoners. He just does things that he knows are going to drive people mad. But he does it with such obsessive determination and style. You just have to eventually roll over and say, ‘Cool, I just want to see more of this stuff’ because it’s good to be shocked. Batman could easily be like that character."

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh I dunno, I think there's a limit to how far you can stretch things. Like, All Star Batman wasn't a huge deviation from Miller's own Batman stuff, it was just terrible in and of itself. This FF reboot sounds like it's trying desperately to run away from everything that is interesting and unique about the Fantastic Four, in favor of... well, the Dr. Doom actor just gave another interview where he called the movie "a realistic, lo-fi attempt at a super hero movie, which, ugh.

there is a time and a place for that, and it's necessary even to keep the genre of superhero movies from growing stale, but not for the fucking Fantastic Four, a team that is literally the exact opposite of realistic and lo-fi. :noo:

to be fair to Fox (not they deserve it, at all), they had ready to go and even finished filming (I'm pretty sure) before Guardians of the Galaxy came out

Is it wrong that every time I see one of those interviews and the person in question says they're "well versed in the lore" or "read comics" it sets off a number of red flags

Yeah, there's plenty of titles where being grounded and lo-fi would work well. It worked for Batman, it could work for Daredevil and the likes of Luke Cage, and the Spiderman and X-Men movies could have gone a little further and still stayed decent (very boring and limited, but it could be made not terrible with a few one-shot ideas). But the titles that go cosmic and extravagantly supernatural ? Seriously ? What are they going to do with fucking Galactus ?
If I struggled to the end of my determination, to the end of my way of life with my followers, if the result is ruin, then this ruin is inevitable. Grieve. Shed tears. But you cannot regret.
