Okay, for those of you who don't know, Eternal Champions: Challenge From the Dark Side was a Sega CD game released in 1995. The Eternal Champions series is similar to Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter in some ways. Challenge From the Dark Side is the second game in the series. A third title was planned for the Sega Saturn titled "Eternal Champions: The Final Chapter" but it was forcefully canceled before production could even begin.

Anyway, here's a sprite sheet for the Dark Eternal Champion I ripped. It's been uploaded onto spriter's resource for a bit as I submitted it a while ago.



More rips to come in the near future.

I plan to eventually, and I kind of have to since I'm working on an Eternal Champions fan game with Michael Latham (the series creator.) as a consultant because it's supposed to be what the third game in the series would have been had it not been canceled and I want it to be as accurate as possible. (unfortunately, the MUGEN engine doesn't have the capabilities needed for some of the things planned.)

Your welcome. :) Always a pleasure. I'm actually in the process of ripping sprites from the Dark EC's stage, the Cimmerian Complex. After that I plan on ripping sprites of Crispy the Chicken, Riptide, Xavier, and Thanatos. I have a Hooter the Owl sprite sheet but it doesn't belong to me. A Very close friend of mine made it. I don't think she'll mind if I post it so if you want me to, I can post it here.

As a matter of fact MaxBeta, I am ripping a stage currently. It's the Dark Eternal Champion's stage. (Cimmerian Complex)

I'm using Gens G/S emulator's VDP thing. It allows me to disable certain sprite layers. My friend who ripped the Hooter sprites used the same method.

For my stage version, it's exactly like the original, I'm just not sure how to encorporate the explosions. I was thinking of making a second version but if you've got any ideas feel free to throw em up.

Nah, that should be good. You don't have to incorporate the explosions. I actually need to rip more Dark EC sprites. I realized a couple animations are missing a while back and I was thinking I'd better add them.
I personally found Juan Carlos' EC characters pretty inaccurate and incomplete (some of them are very buggy.) I'm hoping someone will find enough time to actually want to make some new and more accurate versions of these characters.

I'd also love to get a hold of SuperMystery so I could get his permission to use the code for his Eternal Champion character for an Eternal Champion 2 character.

As for Dark Eternal Champion, he has two versions. Hence why his stage has two parts. I just hope somebody does an accurate version and actually makes a playable and non-playable version of both versions of DEC.

And once again, thank you for doing that stage. If you feel like you'd want to do more stages from EC, I might be able to do some. Just tell me what stages you need art ripped from and I'll eventually get to it.

Awesome. I'll add it to my ripping schedule. I was actually going to do a sprite rip for Senator anyway. I know there's a character of him already and its pretty accurate but I figured I'd rip his sprites  and sound effects again, in case somebody wanted to make an updated version. (the previous version's actually missing a voice effect. He exclaims "I AM NOT A CROOK!" before using his disappearing attack.

But yeah, we need Senator's stage in MUGEN. I'm currently working on Riptide's sprites. I've also got a long line of ripping requests, so it might take me a bit to get to it.

Hey guys, wanted to update this thread. A dude by the name of Maxim ripped almost all of Raven Gindar's sprites. The only ones he's missing are the voodoo dolls for the secret characters. Anyway, here's a link to his spritesheet if anybody wants to make a character of Raven:


Just be sure to give him some credit. He worked hard ripping these and deserves it. ;)

Also fun and random fact about the washington DC stage:
The man running around in the background is supposed to be Bill Clinton, hence the CIA Agents following him. During his Presidency, Clinton was known to have jogged to McDonalds. Also, if you look carefully enough, you can see what appears to be the Silhouette of Sonic the Hedgehog on the street sign in the background as well.

Hey guys. Long time since I posted in this thread. I have something here some of you can use for a stage if need be.

Stone Monkey Temple. This is the secret character, Chin Wo's stage. In the original Eternal Champions, Jetta Maxx used this stage. Interestingly, Jetta's new stage, Blue Dragon Circus, and this stage, use the same music track.

MC2/Rasta Bearson (god I hope I spelled that right.) is actually working on Crispy the Chicken. In fact, he released a beta a little while ago.  That's one of the reasons why I'm ripping Hong Song Delta actually, since it's Crispy's stage (Also Blast's)

Also Blue Monkey, that sounds cool. Well, just refer them to me. I can be a great asset to any Eternal Champions related project Well, mostly Challenge From the Dark Side related as I'm not a huge fan of the first game tbh. It can be enjoyable at times, but it lacks the content that makes the Sega CD sequel superior. I did like the Battle room stage however so I might rip that in the future.

Thinking of doing a custom sheet for Chaos Eternal Champion, the third Eternal hinted at a lot in the Sega CD game in the future. (he was supposed to be in the forcefully cancelled third game as the true Evil. Dark Eternal Champion turns out to be part of the balance of time flow and becomes an anti-hero.)

well yeah he's a clone of xavier, but even the scythe turns back into xavier's staff in those sprites. that's just lazy as hell. so lazy that i'm considering fixing that 'mistake' for them myself...

His taunt sprites do the same thing lol.  I didn't change them on the sheet because I wanted the rips to be as Vanilla as possible. Clearly the sprite artists were lazy. Also, take a look at one of the others sprites. IT'S MISSING THE UPPER TORSO! lol I only ripped that sprite because I thought it was hilarious. Thankfully, it looks as though it was just a duplicate of the sprite after it. The first frame of the throw animation was screwed up as well but I went ahead and used another sprite which was the same one technically, to replace it.

melv if you fix some of these mistakes can you plz send them to me I was the one who was mainly asking glisp to rip thanatos as I want to make a custom version but the whole turning back into xavier thing annoyed me.

I actually tested that animation on Kega Fusion which is nearly console accurate so yeah, it is an issue with the game. It's not the only sprite that glitches up either. But I didn't bother putting the other one on the sheet because it wasn't as funny. It was the first frame of his throwing animation so I just replaced it with a sprite from another animation as it was the same sprite used there but complete. I'm also assuming you mean his eyes as well in Chaken Cut. I think that may have been intended. But whatever floats your boat I guess.
