probably doesnt help that not being prescription they are never talked through the dangers of it.

What gets me is that these seem to be sold as-is in stores, readily available to anyone. I'm pretty sure this is not the case with other types of cosmetic lenses since US law forbids sale without a prescription regardless of the corrective properties, or lack thereof, for exactly this reason.
