Expanding Character roster, getting layouts

Am I ultonoob!? Yes. But we all start somewhere.

With the failure of my music thing, I'm just going to start over and make the whole thing more simple.

First Q: How do I expand the character roster amount for WinMugen (note, this download has something called Big and an unofficial patch which allows for unlimited character input, just to let ya'll know)? I looked into its directory, and added new columns and such, but I don't think that was correct?

Am I right or wrong?

Try downloading a screenpack with bigger slots

Well then... let's move on.

I've downloaded a new screenpack, but, a lot of tutorials seem to be oblivious to Winmugen which has all this additional content.

In other words, I have no idea how to install it. I've all ready unzipped the files, placed the data in the mugen directory... but, now I get this font error.

Honestly, haven't found a comprehensive tutorial yet. Thanks in advance for the help.

HAH!! Got the screenpack to work! But.

This is something minor, and I'm pretty sure it has to do with a configure option, but when I load mugen, I'll the screenpack I loaded, however, none of its font shows up. I mean, basically, the titles for thinks like TRAINING  and VIEW, those options, they don't show up.

What's this about?

Depending on the screenpack, you were to overwrite everything. The screenpack may have come with instructions on how to install correctly. What screenpack do you have?

DURACELLEUR's BATTLE

These were the instructions:  Unzip the files in the "_/data" & "_/font" directory

Yeah...

It had two files, data and font, both of which properly overwrote the original winmugen files. To the best of my knowledge, anyway.

Huh, maybe it's a beta right now. So it's not properly finished yet?

I've seen it work for others. I bet this one is broken, then.

All right, I did some back tracking. I did a few tests, and, the font won't show up for the screen pack. This screen pack is NOT broken; the file is available for download: (dinsv.free.fr/dms/).

It runs fine with mugen, but again, NO font is showing.

I installed as such: I copied the data files and pasted them into Winmugen's data directory. At that point, I overwrote all the old mugen files.

Font I did the same; I copied the files, pasted and overwrote them in the font directory.

I'm still uncertain about the issue. Any ideas?

I downloaded it to see if I could help, It had the same problem.  I couldn't figure out a solution, the fonts were in the right folder, and the system.def called for them correctly.  There were no spelling errors that I saw, so no clue.

My recommendation would be to find a different Screenpack, there's lots of good ones out there, ones that you won't have to hassle with fixing.

You did all the installation correctly, the problem is within the screenpack. If you know how to edit the fonts then it's not that big of a deal, but I agree with Shion, getting a different screenpack is easier. You should also consider changing to WinMugen Plus, so you could use a Hi-Res screenpack with Mugen.
