There are limits to the freedom of speech that were basically there before any of the stupid conspiracy shit from the modern world. I don't have the freedom to scream words that will incite a riot or cause chaos; I don't have the right to constantly heckle someone with words that are insulting. And no, words are not just words.

I mean, sure, you have the inherent right to do those things, but it's stupid to do them and doing them puts other people's lives at risk because making someone angry and causing riots have unpredictable consequences.

She is likely going to be released early if she shapes up during her contempt hearing.  Showing disrespect to the court can absolutely be considered contempt since judges are allowed a lot of discretion on this matter.  The real problem here is the fact that sentences can be administered immediately on a contempt charge, regardless of guilt.

This sort of thing is 100% legal, that's what you should be getting mad about.

Yeah contempt of court certainly is one of the legal limits to 'freedom' of speech. Of course 'the exchange of freedom for security' could be debated here, but for the affirmative it's sensible in that a court represents the laws by which we all live and prosper, and not taking it seriously (behaving contemptuously in court) suggests a disrespect for that system that could make it very difficult (or in the extreme, theoretically impossible) to conduct a fair trial where that person is self representing.  I don't know that I personally believe 'taking court seriously' should be a legal mandate (enter court appointed lawyer for right to fair trial) but it is what it is, and I doubt she didn't know that before she told him to fuck off. 

EDIT: Though I am glad the gut approach of "she's a stupid bitch, she deserves it" is ideally not part of the legal system.

What I read in the thread?? Freedom of speech?? She was mocking the judge and later says fuck you to him. No, freedom of speech my balls, and 30 days is very few, I left her in jail at least a couple of months.

I mean, it's like in the forum someone comes and bother the admins and mods and later say fuck you to them, and they give him/her a month ban. Oh wait--

We've never done that. It might contribute to a ban, but in the end it's not that important. In fact, it'd be worse if they were telling normal users to go fuck themselves.

Right; it's not so much the cursing as it is the stuff behind it. The "fuck you" shows that the user isn't interested in trying to behave like a normal person and participate in the community.

There is a Reason why there is such a thing as "contempt of court"  if the judge wants he can old u in contempt for simply not being dressed appropriately for court if u refuse to change , this kid got everything her xanax popping self deserved.Also there was no speech involved in the gesture she gave the judge.You Have a certain way to act while in the presence of a court & judge or u pay the price, & simply put she did .

Eh, drug abusers shouldn't be jailed unless their abuse directly affects the lives of others. I do think the war on drugs is really ridiculous waste of resources. Years from now, some more drugs that are perfectly legal right now may become illegal and using them will, socially, make you a villain, and legally, make you a criminal. As seen with the current marijuana.

That's my idea, I saw various users who acted like that and they deserved the ban and in this case about that airhead girl is the same. If she were an user here, I would permaban her for sure (if I could)
