Unfortunately the .hip's aren't any good to most of us. Everything I've tried with the little bastards has gotten me nowhere.

Oh, and I just want to add:

I don't really need perfect, personally. I've been doing a retarded amount of semi-unnecessary work on these already, a little more wouldn't kill me. And I could finally get off Hoshi's back, which I'm sure he'd appreciate.

I've summed up everything I don't have on Dustloop, I'll post it here too just because.

  • Hazama special effects (VRI)
  • Tsubaki special effects
  • Bang CS sprites (bn214_*, bn433_*, bn612_*, bnef611_*)
  • Carl CS sprites (ca837_*)
  • Hakumen CS sprites (ha211_add*, ha214_*, ha406_*)
  • Litchi CS sprites (lc215_*, lc216_*)
  • Nu CS sprites (ny404_*, ny405_*, ny406_*)
  • Rachel CS sprites (rc410_*, rc432_*)
  • Ragna CS sprites (rg411_*)
  • Tager CS sprites (tg213_*, tg406_*, tg407_*)
  • Taokaka CS sprites (ctk450_25-28, tk416_*)
  • Any new effect sprites that I didn't check.

It's been a while since I've heard anything so I was wondering how much progress has been made in extracting the King of Fighters XII sprites?

You guys are mean.  :'(
Baw. You should have seen that coming if you post a possible wip thats nothing more but a palette swap using the dizzy stance. It didn't contribute to the topic and was totally the wrong place to even post that.
Sony took it down :( Guess it gave people the wrong idea. rip amberlamps.
96/150 Chars, I'm not dead yet....the true surprise is in my thread.

Nice work Freezeman for figuring all this out  :2thumbsup:

I've written a conversion tool, for anyone who has .hip files and isn't able to get at the sprites.

It can output the .tga file or indexed .pcx - for the .pcx files the original palette of the ripped sprite will be used.  It looks like the sprites for a character all use the same palette (some FX aside) so this should hopefully suffice for Mugen palette purposes.

Available here.

Disclaimer!  I only had a couple of .hip files to test with - all images I converted looked correct, but let me know if you find any errors.  I wrote all the file I/O stuff myself so it's possible there might be some oversights (e.g. I made certain assumptions about the .hip file structure, based on the ones I had).

All feedback appreciated.  Hope this is of some use  :)

Very awesome thanks for the share. By any chance what format is this .hip file I looked it up on the net
And its related to high end animation software. I thought it was a plugin for 3dmax by the name of houdini_importer_for_okino_software but did not work o well thanks again.

edit it does not work with the .hip file for char_hz_img

the viewer shows the list in gray and cant access the .hip file

Sorry for the weird behaviour where it would sometimes lock the image list - I don't know how that one slipped by  :omg:
I've uploaded a new version (same link as before) - hopefully that will cure it.  Let me know if not, or if there are any other problems.

The new version should also handle hip files without palettes (i.e. 32-bit images, such as portraits).  Thanks Insanius for the info on this and the example file.  There are still some files it won't open properly, such as those used in the character endings - I don't know if anyone's figured out the trick to these, but I'll add support once I work it out.

Kronos - these hip files are not related to the Houdini format of the same name.  It's some proprietary RLE image format - I don't think there will be much (if any) info to be found on the net... not yet at least  ;)

Sweet, you just gave me something to waste the next ten hours on. Thanks man!

Edit: I guess I misunderstood what you meant when you said .pcx used the original palette. The actual palettes are the .hpl files in char_xx_pal.pac, right? Is there anything we can do with those?

Take a screenshot of them, turn them into a palette in your favourite palette editor.

In M.U.G.E.N there is no magic button

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it's not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance.

Yeah, the only palette stored in the hip file is the funky colour-separated one.  I don't actually have any .hpl or .pac files, but if someone wants to share some I can add the option to import a palette.

I was also thinking an animation player might be nice, maybe even an option to export an animation in Mugen .air syntax?  I haven't looked at the animation files yet; I don't think I have any that correspond to my current hip files.

One thing I just noticed is, I've been generating these sprites back to front!  I've done a new version to fix this, but in case it's useful to have them flipped, I've included an option to do them the old way.  If you select the "Flip" option then all exported sprites will be flipped (i.e. not just the one in the preview pane).  I also added the ability to move the preview sprite around by dragging it; useful for viewing larger images.

New version here.

I can send you the .hpl's or .pac's (or both). Got a preferred method?

OK cool.  Stick them up on some filesharing site - preferably the .hpl files plus the .hip files for that character.  Save me having to get involved with .pac files :P

Cool, the Blazblue sprites have arrived, haha.
I think I will do some new char, and will be ragna or that hakumen guy... or maybe both, since I don't know the story I could do that this ragna puts a special armor and transform in "HAKUMEN, the swordmen", hahaha (cooll).

I allready fond the sprites for the 2, but about the sounds and effects... I presume I will have to wait more or there is allready some of them to take?

And out of topic: I was looking some youtube video about the chars and man... that hazama guy is gay, but jin... its hard to even stand the voice of that one, the japanese dub made him a extremely efeminated man that speaks as if there was something "affecting" him all the time (bleaarrch).
