Yes Cazaki, I would love your help throughout the testing phases. I really want the game to be balanced and have depth. I want someone who can really analyze the properties of every move, even normals. I need to find that training character that Kame uses that helps with frame data. I've always relied on Magic series and universal values for hitstun and what not, but I want to get really in depth with this one.

Great, because that's how I prefer FGs anyway. Just know that when you sprite your characters, try to steer clear of standards, you know. Envision PURPOSE behind every move you sprite, especially for characters like the grapplers or Bryce who have specialty fighting styles. Normals can really make a character unique, even if they have glaring weaknesses in certain aspects. Sometimes it's easy to think that a character couldn't function if x move couldn't do this, or that. Don't stick to that mentality, and you'll be fine.

One thing I've been pondering regarding these effects given.  What if, let's say, the rewards are randomized after every activation?  Suppose everyone gets a universal Lv.1 that comes from the offense meter that gives them a certain benefit, similar to Marvel Super Heroes.  Same goes for the Defense Meter, but rather activate at the cost of 1.5 meter for a random effect be it stackable or permanent.

I also think adding a universal Just Defend/Guard system to further help in building Defenese meter.

Yeah I can get behind a Just Guard system too, but that slipped my mind at the time of my post.

Well I've been coding an up to date version of Tristan, but I haven't incorporated any Last Bout specific stuff (like the guages). He is 4 button, throw button, 3 supers. I changed one of his old specials into a command normal and changed the properties of some other specials. I could start by sending you the new version for some testing. Sound okay?

Also, Just Defend sounds good, too. So, in this case, the reward would be a tiny bit of life back as well as defense meter build?
Son, the last thing you'll realize you need is what you've already got.

this sounds great man, loving the ideas for the characters, and the brainstorming for a competent system

I'm more leaning towards a Just Guard, where if parried at a perfect frame grants a good boost in meter, but in standard frames will give default meter gains.  Reason is that if one the rewards for Lv.1 activation for the Defense Meter will increase vitality or restore health.

Though if Just Defend seems easier, it can work.  Defense benefits could heighten recovery or increase active frames for a while.


I just thought of something for both meters.  How about at the start of the fight you can customize whichever benefit you feel for Offense/Defense?

Sounds good. Also, I don't know about life restoration as a universal feature though I don't really think that's the way to go about it. Just a solid defense meter build would do IMO.



edit: I just thought about this, but it's something to consider. One thing I've always liked about SF3 is that certain (or all I'm not sure) characters gain special attributes for taunting. Ever thought about adopting something like that? Like having taunts boost attributes or having them act like Angry Scar does on SF4 where it enhances/changes a special move? Something to consider
