These don't look great. Very little detail of the original sprites was kept (some of the folds in Marco's gi look good). Everything else is a giant blob. High definition in this sense means high or great detail and these images are the exact opposite of that.

I think the best thing that you could do is stick to doubling the sprite's original resolution. Something like this may only serve as a base for re-drawing an actual high-detail sprite.

I second that. The filter is causing loss of significant detail and makes it look like everyone is melting.

They reason that many aspects are far from satisfactory, especially in the details of the face, personally do not gets that I like.

I'm trying to find a way to make the sprites without having to redraw them again.

Still I have that keep experimenting more ;)

Thank you for your opinions :)

Lower down than the Topaz filters.

It's less of an opinion and more of an observation.

You're looking for a 0-effort way to "HD-ify" sprites when the very nature of HD makes that impossible.
So instead of just dealing with double-res pixels that maintain the exact same level of detail of the SD sprite, you opt to erase 80% of the original detail in favor of big blotchy perversions of the original sprites in the misguided pursuit of "High Definition".

I loved it ! it kept enough of the details to look nice ingame. Please keep it.

And I agree about some of the sprites went too weird. But this Ken is awesome :p

0 effort is not entirely true, because the combination of esprites has its initial work and Pacienci.

My purpose is not to create easy HD chars in a way is impossible because of the complexity of the details that should have.
But this way we save a lot of time redrawing ince 0, just would have to fill in the missing details while maintaining the original style of the character.
only for those who want to have a better outcome and appearance
for others it can be used just as they look if roasted or prefer.

You know?

I'm not entirely mistaken in trying save time and optimize the work

But every opinion and observations are very welcome ;)

In all honesty, Filters make everything look bad. It's only useful for existing games (Emulators with filters, for example). Sadly, the only "true" way to do HD is to redraw them. Or at least outline them from their original existing sprites after being re-sized. I know the effort will be hard and difficult, but it is all rewarding at the end, knowing that you put a lot of effort into something. :)

Not exactly. See, the problem with using *those* as bases for true HD sprites is that now you have to make a lot of guesses where the details go because it's all blurry. If you build off of  sprite that's only resized and that's it, you have a much better chance of preserving detail.

Not to mention that it causes a huge mess, palette-wise.

From what I observe, these don't look half bad. If you spent a bunch of time cleaning up some rough looking lines and edges, I say you've got serious potential on your hands.

But isn't the beauty of Mugen pixelation and nostalgia?? That's one of the very reasons why I stick with 1.0 and it's indexed glory: There's something alluring about hand drawn art from a bygone period of arcades and 32/16-bit consoles.

Yeah, working with Balth made me realize how amazing old-school effects were. They just feel so... alive.

Right!? And the fluidity of KoF's old school animation still amazes me to this day. Dream Match 99 is one of my top favorite fighting games. I love the sprite style even more.

There´s something beautiful about 16-colored old school effects, you don´t know why but it is beautiful.

Not to mention that it causes a huge mess, palette-wise.

You're right with the theme of the color palettes, the palette I get photoshop no problem, but when editing the apletas to give variety of colors, there is more work.

as you can see in some pictures, I redefined the edges, removing artifacts.
What costs a lot is to prevent loss of detail in the faces of the characters, it is impossible to keep them intact, the only way to be redrawn.

The rest of the details is more important for some than for others
but for me details faces is important.
I'll keep working on it
