http://www.themarysue.com/twitter-users-mad-about-gamergate-block-bots/

In the Wake of Gamergate the people that oppose Gamergate have put out a tool for blocking out "abuse in twitter". this black list automatically blocks people that the dev has deemed to be pro gamergate.
This includes KFC and a lot of devs.

The IGDA ( gamedev international) has decided to support the blacklist and is spreading it as a useful tool to curtail "abusers" in the internet, with the list having been used by some companies to ban people, including junior gamedevs , from attending events.

When approached to be unbanned, people were told to go fuck themselves.

They have since then allowed SOME people to be unbanned, but the idea is that from now on if you support anything they dont agree with, you are to be locked out of gamedev.

Some people have an issue with this.

That seems to be the answer in our cyber society: to ostracize instead of trying to create a forum of negotiation. It's happened time and time again, one side of the group believes that the other side's stance is unruly, and as such think of them as unruly savages, and as such will find ways to take them off of their radar. Out of sight, out of mind.

I expected this to occur: I am sad to say that this is human nature: our natural urge to stray from danger and stray to comfort might be the reason people are so quick to dehumanize other people for anything: color, creed, walk of life, stance, the list goes on.

What I do not like about this specific event is that once the knowledge that they are banned come into light, those who want a conversation about it just gets the cold shoulder like these people are beneath them. I do not like the fact that some people just downright refuse to think critically, to think that maybe they are wrong, or in turn think they are right, but instead of burning a bridge, try to help other people understand your stance and why you are led to it.

I sometimes wonder if this is just another story of the computer being the shield of bigotry, and I mean that on both sides.

If someone wants to block you so they can have the last word instead of having intelligent discourse, they aren't worth talking to in the first place.  I wish more people did that instead of drawing attention to people who thrive on it.

Nothing wrong with blocking people out of a conversation you dont want to participate in.

Something wrong with labeling anyone that talks of a subject as being "ABUSERS" that need to be blacklisted. Thats straight up discriminating and implies that "Good" people wouldnt discuss themes you deem bad.
Imagine if Watergate was deemed a bad subject that reporters would be added to an "abuser" list whenever they talked about it.

I agree with this, hence my last comment.  Some people you are not going to have a good conversation with and it's not worth the stress for either of you.

I honestly think that would have happened had Watergate not gone down in the pre internet age.  However this IS the internet age so people have to work harder to censor things.

FYI before anyone gets the wrong idea I'm neutral on GG, I just call it like I see it.

You know, this blacklisting may be illegal if it is used to discriminate and exclude people out of working in a certain industry all because of a political reason.

But then again, I am pretty sure that there are more prestigious gaming organizations who condemn this blacklist.

You can't assist to events held by gaming dev hipsters who couldn't get a real job programming software so they had to get some bucks coding shit games to pay their rent, pfffft. With all the shit they give to the pro-GG site you would expect them to actually talk about what's so wrong with the opposition instead of actually giving them more ammo with stupid crap like this.

I don't really want to take a side when it comes to gamergate because both sides have some shitty stuff I dislike but the anti-GG side is clearly the worse of the evils. Luckily the gaming industry is quite open and you don't really need of any of these idiots as long as you have some actual talent. Create a good game and other respectable neutral sites will talk about it, people will talk about it, people will buy it, people will convince others to buy it. You're making games for the people, not for these guys. You just don't need them, they're expendable people.

I think your info's out of date. Last I heard, IGDA removed the blacklist from their site really quickly.

that does not make this post any worthless, it means the list existed, but igda got some backlash so they pussied out of it.

the list was made with intervention by IGDA themselves according to this.

Others agreed that the chairman deserved to be on the list because he reprimanded Geordie Tait, a former writer for Starcity Games, over comments Tait made during a King of Pol live-stream about wanting to send anyone who supported #GamerGate to the gas chambers, and that they deserved to die like Nazis.

"Why is @igda using an untested tool with such a flawed algorithm? Blocked by follow list? I've been in software development for 29 years and that is the most idiotic algorithm I've seen!

“Is not about who is relevant or not, being tagged as a harasser by this method is harassment itself
But relevancy you want? I was reverse engineering and doing emus before you could pick up a controller. I don't care I'm blocked, it is not a popularity contest, I care about being named a harasser publicly without harassment proof.”

[Update:] A post on the GitHub page explains that the “Blocklist” has been renamed to the “Sourcelist”, with  creator Randi Harper stating…

This is not creating a "blacklist" to keep people out of the industry, you unemployed neckbeard (if you could grow a beard) cockwaffles. It is creating a "blocklist" so normal people don't have to listen to your incoherent looneybin conspiracy theories peppered by whatever's on your political word-of-the-day calendar.
