Button mashing in VF doesn't get you anywhere. I've freakin' tried that a thousand times.

Really? Because I've won quite a bit of rounds at my (Long defunct) local arcade with Lion Rafale.

2001-2002 ish.

Then again, most people were into Tekken/KoF

So is DOA (Unless you're a DHURR HURR FANSERVICE DHURR ITAGAKI SUX type of guy)

And VF sucks, techincal my ass you can button mash and win (Then again, the same goes for Tekken, DOA, Soul Calibur, but hey, at least those have a charm)

Also, Bushido Blade (1 & 2) FTW, I'd kill for a next gen Bushido Blade... same for a proper Next Gen Toshinden (Art by Tsukasa, and some returning characters... none of that Wii Toshinden faggotry)

No, I'm a "Tits and counter button do not a great game make" type of guy. DOA has been shit after DOA2 Hardcore.
Select Filmography: Do The White Thing, Brooklyn, The Assassination of Malcolm Little, Love & Racketball, He Has Extraordinary Skill, Flimflamed, Tales from the Neighborhood

Virtua Fighter has been shit after Virtua Fighter 2, Tekken has been shit after Tekken 2... hey, it's easy!

Because DOA is only made of those elements? Weak trolling son, that might work in /v/ (Lets ignore THE BEST 3D stages in any fighting game so far, flashy moves, great soundtrack and other good points)

I like how you think DOA2 Hardcore is the pinnacle of DOA, yet you complain about the Free button
DOA2 had the biggest counter window, and yes, counters can be easily abused during long combo strings... So what? Being thrown during a whiffed attempt at counter means critical damage so it's a double edged weapon.
Also, Counters were downgraded in 3... Then they were downgraded even more by DOA4, the window is minimal and whiffing again, means receiving double damage during a grab. Finally there's a new counter position, A middle counter so timing aside, counters are no longer 50-50.

If you're gonna troll the game at least know the real flaws like infinite combos during tag team matches or the disappointing/retarded bosses (Except for Raidou, everyone else has been horrible, Tengu, Omega and Alpha). Also yeah, hair clipping is extremely amateurish.

...Nice opinion regardless.

  • does this look like the face of mercy?
Doa is my favorite 3d fighter system ( apart from max impact) , it always felt way better than either tekken or soul calibur.

All a matter of your opinion. I hate the soundtrack, and it seems like I'm on the same couple of stages EVERY DAMN ENTRY IN THE SERIES. The series bores me to tears in it's progression. Say what you will about how the games looks graphically, but as far as fidelity the series hasn't made leaps and bounds since Hardcore. Not that all (well, MOST) fighters do, but when the series dropped it had that going for it, moreso than Tekken and VF at the time. I brought up the two things because they're the usual talking points (though I know you're smarter than that so I apologize).  The fact is, could have killed the counter button completely and come up with a better way to implement the counter system by now, but that's just a personal gripe. What bother me most is that, regardless of how long I've been playing the series, there's nothing there that SERIOUSLY makes me want to go back. It lacks the nostalgia that older series have keep me in on. The character designs are, for the most part, just as lifeless (no, jiggle does not constitute personality) and flat as they were since the first game (sure, there's a few exceptions, but really). Story? HA. I'm not expecting Shakespeare, but at least Tekken's is ridiculous enough to work.

And what's this about /v/? Nice retort there, bud.

Gotta love those filler character stories.
I wonder why the "serious" storylines always have to be about genetics or something?

Also -
Paul would have won every tournament had it not been for Kuma.  It's kind of scary if you think about it too hard.
cool titles

i have to admit, the main reason i completed tekken 3 and tekken 5 with all characters was just to see everyone's endings.

and tekken 5 had a really awesome soundtrack (moonlight wilderness and the finalizer)

You must have played against VF deficient players.
The proper term would be VF Casuals. Yes, could be, you don't see many pros, the learning curve is huge.
In my local arcade people were more into KoF and (at some extent) Tekken anyways.

stuff
Oh ok.
Generic faces are a somewhat valid complain (And like I mentioned, the clipping)
Quote
but at least Tekken's is ridiculous enough to work.
Zack's story is hilarous (There's your personality... Bass works too), Hayabusa Jan-Lee and Hayate for general badassery, I don't care abut the rest, most endings are generic fanservice (Hitomi, Kasumi, Lei-Fang...then Again Tekken also has Anna..or Nina's ending, I forgot). I play for the gameplay though, not for the endings.

The rest of your points are, yes, matter of taste, still... DOA's designs aren't as generic or uninteresting as you think. And Tekken isn't the pinnacle of character designs (Lilly, generic sumo, Baek) I don't dislike Tekken though.

Complaining about the counter button (Again, seems like you haven't played the latest games where counters are harder to pull, can be properly punished and barely affect gameplay) it's like complaining about KOF's roll, I mean... sure, you can, it's valid, but that element makes the franchise different to the rest.
