As the owner of a rescued dog, I tend to support PETA in its calls for animal rights. However, sometimes that organization has a tendency to go overboard. Like right now. The animal rights group has lodged a complaint against Electronic Arts and DICE's Battlefield 3 in press release form (via BF3Blog), calling out the game's "sadistic" treatment of animals as exemplified in an early campaign scene involving a rat's run-in with your combat knife.

I'm familiar with the scene in question, having played through it twice after failing the related QTE on my first runthrough. While I'd lodge complaint against that scene's ridiculously tiny "press the button now!" QTE window, the rat killing really doesn't seem like something that PETA or anyone else should be getting worked up over.

PETA must be to vegetarians what those pedophile priests are to Catholics.

If PETA members had more time and money, they would fill a lawsuit every time someone steps over a cockroach.

I'm not normally one to complain about DLC, but that is some serious bullshit.  What the actual hell, Capcom?

Ultimate MVC3 is the last Capcom game I buy in a long time.  Between this and the fucking gems in SFxT, I don't care anymore.  You can take that Asura's Wrath and cram it up your anus.  This is ri-goddamn-diculous.

XCOM Reboot Misses March, Shuffled To After April 2012 Along With Borderlands 2

Quote
2K Marin’s XCOM reboot was originally slated for March 6, 2012. During an investor’s report, Take Two announced the shooter has been rescheduled to "fiscal year 2013." That pegs its release between April 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013.

Borderlands 2 is also a fiscal year 2013 title, which means it will be released within the same timeframe.

Next year, Take Two will release The Darkness II on February 7, 2012 and Max Payne 3 in March 2012. Both titles will be on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Grand Theft Auto V is listed as "TBA" for its release window and platforms .

http://www.shacknews.com/article/71048/gran-turismo-6-development-confirmed-more-gt5-dlc-promised

Quote
"Of course we're working on GT6 already," Polyphony Digital head Kazunori Yamauchi said in a recent interview. In an industry where sequels are inevitable, of course the team would be working on a follow-up to Sony's premiere racing simulator.

But what can we expect from Gran Turismo 6? "What really will be the separating factor is something that we can't update through a DLC is something that obviously has to be saved for GT6."

The first official bit of DLC for Gran Turismo 5 released last month, after a long string of game-changing updates and tweaks. The reason for GT5's late DLC deployment, Yamauchi explained, is that the team wanted to make sure the GT5 "platform" was complete before adding additional content.

"It's been about a year since we've released the game and in the interim we've had about 15 updates that were performed on the game. These set up the basic platform for the system," Yamauchi told IGN. "Now that we have that out of the way, we're ready to release more expansions and content to add to the game."

Cool, USD $1.20 cardboard box, $0.12 worth of paint in a $0.80 case and BAM! Nintendo fanboys buy another one of your crappy handhelds with no games.

Did I mention it was cool?

speaking of handhelds

Sony's way of dealing with that umd issue on vita

The PlayStation Vita's Japanese launch is rapidly approaching, and Sony has finally offered some details on the program that will allow PSP owners to transfer their games and saves to their new Vita handhelds. All games will have to be repurchased to be played on the Vita, Sony said, but those who can prove via UMD that they already own games will get a discount when repurchasing the same content digitally.
