Working on adding the ability to use vehicles on the sidescrolling stages.  Here is a demo of a GI JOE level I'm working on, in the very early stages.  So far Snake Eyes can use a motorcycle or a tank.  He can get on and off and back on again.

I really need a spriter to help me make things like Cobra HISS tanks to put as enemies on this stage... anyone interested?

  • does this look like the face of mercy?
Check out some of the metal slug series bigger vehicles, they might look good enough for what you are planning

Although for things like motorcycles, how would those work?
Wouldn't you need like specific states for those things?

Can't we just be lazy and cover the entire character with a giant tank?

Yeah, what I had to do was put a specific state and animation in Snake Eyes character, AND put the identical state in the player 2/sidecrolling character.  There's a projectile on the sidescroll that triggers the motorcycle or tank to appear.

So basically any character you'd want to have the vehicles for you'd have to copy and paste that piece of code into their file.  Maybe I'll make it as a separate st file so you just have to add it to the DEF file.

Hm...?
What about those characters that use their own ST files and contains their physics and whatnot in there?

Maybe for the time being the easiest thing would be to release it as a mini-game that includes Snakes Eyes for player 1.  I don't know if there's an easy solution so that casual gamers/non-coders can use any character they want without modifying that character at all...

...unless we use more generic vehicle sprites so you never see the player in or on the vehicle.

If a more advanced coder wants to help me figure out a way, just PM me.

New video and pics added above.

Prime Op, do you have a HISS Tank you're working on?  I'd love to get your help on this!
