Before you jump to conclusions, this is not your typical X vs Y thread. 

DEATHBATTLE is a show under ScrewAttack that pits famous characters against each other.  They create these battles by analyzing each character's strengths, weaknesses, fight patterns etc. in order to decide who is the winner.

A while ago, DEATHBATTLE announced they were pitting Goku and Superman against each other.  Needless to say, fans had many discussions, sharing why their favorite hero would come out on top.  DEATHBATTLE claims that actual math, physics and even forum outcomes would be the judge. 

The video will be released on Dec. 21st, 2012.

Do you all think it's possible to accurately portray these two in a reasonable duel?

Argument in favor of Goku: Superman is weak to "magic." What does Ki qualify as?

Argument in favor of Superman: Goku died when a planet blew up. A fucking universe blew up and Superman was fine.

I don't think that happened. Even back in the Frieza Saga, Frieza was just counting on Goku not being able to breath in space (pointing out Frieza himself could survive in space) when Namek was about to blow up. This implies he would have survived it, and expected Goku to survive it too.

I think it depends on what version of goku and superman are being used. tbh I think goku wins most times. And when did goku die when a planet blew up?

oh that. It wasn't the planet blowing up that caused goku to die though it was cell's explosion.

Regardless, even if Cell's explosion didn't kill him, Goku wouldn't be able to survive in the vacuum in space, which, correct me if I'm wrong, Superman can.

Now I like Goku more than Superman, but the problem is that even though Goku is stronger, Superman is just... more durable.

Goku could probably win by blowing up the sun with a KAMEHAMEHA and then hitting Superman with another, though, although that would cause a whole mess of problems.

true. But I don't ever see superman blowing up a planet to beat goku. goku Could probably vaporize him at some point.

Provided Superman lets him charge up for half an hour. :p

In Pokemon battling, this is comparable to having a Farfetch'd with Swords Dance on your team: spend a long time setting up and hope your opponent doesn't one-shot you in that time.

BTW I think Goku's a better character and Superman's powers are all from stupid writing.

Agreed. But honestly it all depends on what version of goku we have. Because IMO base goku from the namek saga could probably go toe to toe with superman. Sometimes I think kurrin could give supes a run for his money.

I have always hated Superman. He's a god-modding, Gary Stue-ing, asshole. Seriously. Now if it's just straight up sups versus like Pre-SSJ or just SSJ1 Goku then it'd be a pretty good fight.

Ki/Chi = 'magic'

Of course Goku would probably kick his ass, but Superman would be like, "NOPE lol I'm not weak to magic anymore. Game Genie GO!"

Ki is NOT magic. There is magic in the db world and it's not ki at all.

but yea seriously basic superman who is in the comics now would not stand a chance. Superboy prime would murder everyone though. He literally was destroying universes.

As far as ridiculous overpowered strength goes, they're both pretty even.  Both of them have had plenty of "OK, now I'm suddenly strong enough to do this" moments in their history.  In a fight like this it would come down to who could out-think who.  Goku's never really been the sharpest tool in the shed, while the best Superman stories (at least in my opinion) are the ones where he needs to strategize and outwit his enemies because simply punching it until it stops won't solve anything.  There's a reason his arch-nemesis is Lex Luthor and not I-Can-Punch-So-Much-Harder-Than-You Man.

My money's on Supes.

My money's on Superman too.

I'd even double my bet if they were to pit Earth 2 Superman against Goku, but they will probably use mainstream Superman. :P

That makes sense, but by the same reasoning, Goku has always been able to just power up through it when that happened to him. If you say Supes can come up with a plan because that's what he does, you could also say Goku will transform and punch his way out of anything because that's what he does...

^seconded, Also goku may be a ton of bricks when it comes to a lot of things,but he's sort of a genius when it comes to fighting in general. I Still don't see Supes standing a chance against ssj2 or ssj3 goku at all.
