  • No meaning to me, just an empty box.
They also managed to mess up Last Exile, one of their half decent shows, with its second series. It got really bad and the plot when in so many directions at once that I'm not convinced Gonzo knew what to do with it.

Also what's the consensus on Star Driver. I watched the first two episodes a while back and was impressed by the production values ,but didn't really like the male lead and most of the cast. Is it worth digging up?

I guess I'll watch the Hellsing OVAs and read the FMP mangas then. Thanks for the explanations.

hold on FMP this year, a new project has been announced and we still have no idea what it is  (slightly after the announcement, a new manga was announced released but that announcement was so discreet there is a chance that was not what the previous, big announcement was for).

That sounds about right, the battles are pretty well done, but I wasn't a big fan of the story, the school setting or the characters, or the romance (It reminds me of Utena but well... I didn't like it nearly as much)
Oh, you didn't like Takuto? Well, you'll be happy to know that he has permanent plot armor and comes out with power ups out of nowhere.

So yeah, If you don't like the characters then you might have a very hard time watching the series since the plot is character interaction driven (Again, school setting, romance) but if you like those things you might have a blast with it.

Jumping into this topic now.

I honestly don't need to tell -you- guys any good Mecha Anime

I finally decided to get un-lazy and watch Zeta Gundam for the first time.

To do that I started watching the Gundam Movie Trilogy to re-familarize myself with the OYW events and what not.
Boy are they kind of long... I have to tackle them in bite sizes.

I also just finished G Gundam.
Not much to say.

You should watch the rest of the Evolve shorts! They're fun little fanservice.
I've seen all the UC ones and also the G one. Don't care about the CE and AC ones. And they're all pretty disposable; even the good ones (Mark II, if only for Kamille's sass at the end, GP03, Nu, and ZZ). And the rest either really eeeeeeeeeehhhhhhh and mostly pointless (God, Rick Dias, Ball, Marasai, and the Challia Bull remake with the dumb new designs) or downright awful (fuck you Zeta episode, with your dumb ass evil newtype pyramids and the boring newtype lady and her stupid mobile trace using Zeta and killing off the White Wolf of Solomon for no real reason).

And what about this?

If I started going with that stuff then I might as well include Ring of Gundam and that Nu Gundam Dome-G special whatever thing that had the ver Ka. design stuff, and that's just too much.

I mean, might as well mention War for Earth while we're at it... actually, I was negligent in listing that, because it is the greatest thing to come out of the franchise ever.

if youre going to watch one gundam in your life, make it turn A
What kind of miserable creature would only watch one Gundam???

JMorphman is also forgetting to mention Big O's strange ending.
Uh, no. I didn't forget shit. There was just no reason to mention it. It's not like the ending being weird is a surprise anyways, from the first episode one can tell that it's a very weird and mysterious series.

To do that I started watching the Gundam Movie Trilogy to re-familarize myself with the OYW events and what not.

The pacing is definitely a bit rough in the first movie and parts of the second, but the third is pretty much perfect pacing-wise, I think.

You didn't watch the C.E. Evolve shorts? But Kira pulling a Neo (Bullet time included) with the Strike is hilarious.
And yeah, some take these weird liberties, at least we got to see Amuro's Zeta Plus. I still don't know why they made the Braw-Bro look so Alien-like in Evolve 15.

Hah, that sounds about right.
Oh hey, we forgot about G-Savior (I know, I know... The PS2 game was pretty good though)
And uh... Gunpla Builders I guess?

if youre going to watch one gundam in your life, make it turn A
That's a terrible suggestion, by the way.

Why would anybody recommend Turn A.

Maybe he is being a tsundere ?

I am stil split in whether I should watch gundam chronogically as it was released or just skip a lot and only watch the best parts, mostly because if I do the former I will spend 3 years or so watching gundam.

Watch the good stuff. Only delve into the depths if you're curious/need a fix.

It's a regular Zeta (from Green Divers), not the Zeta Plus that has lately been handwaved as an Anaheim marketing tactic.

Mentioned Gunpla Builders, but I can't believe I forgot G-Savior! Guess I'll edit in some stuff. I dunno.

Why would anybody recommend Turn A.
Because it's really, really fucking good?

Turn A as a starting series is a terrible suggestion, it'll give people the wrong impression of the franchise. That and they won't get all the nods to UC and the rest of the series when the whole Black History thing gets introduced. (Personally I hated the pacing, it only got good until they went to space, and I disliked most of the characters, especially Sochie. Gym, Harry and Corin are cool though)

It's OK if you forgot about G-Savior, it's not anime. Then again, neither is ZZ.

Yeah that's what I was going by. Watch it after getting into the series but not as something to start.

It could work by itself, I think, but it really does work best when going in armed with experience with the series.

thanks, I will byte, I'll start watching gundam; which ones are the good ones and in which order should I watch (if you just copy paste a post that you have already made before about it , it's ok too)? remember that I am one person who even considered watching it all so there is no need to be elitist (the only anime I have dropped in the last 5 years is virus buster serge)

Things with an asterisk next to them can be dropped pretty easily if you aren't feeling them and/or don't want to devote the time to them.
production order (recommended only): First Gundam (movies) -> Zeta (series) -> ZZ* -> Char's Counterattack -> 0080 -> F91* -> Victory* -> G -> X* -> 08th MS Team* -> Turn A -> 00 S1 -> 00 S2* -> 00 movie* -> Gunpla Builders

remember that I am one person who even considered watching it all so there is no need to be elitist (the only anime I have dropped in the last 5 years is virus buster serge)
Oh, it's just that Gundam can get really, really bad, and I wouldn't want anyone to suffer through that. Didn't mean to come off as elitist or anything, sorry.

The Zeta series can be pretty overwhelming for someone trying to get into the franchise.
...No, that doesn't mean I'd recommend the New Translation movies.

I wouldn't put 08th MS team as optional, I think it's pretty good (Sure if I only had to pick one UC OVA it would be War in the Pocket, but 08th MS team is really really good)
Agreed on the rest (Well, I'd change F91 for 0083 because it's somewhat more relevant to the main UC storyline, but that's just me)

Might as well go for broke and start injecting that pure, uncut, Tomino with Zeta, methinks.

And I dunno, the only real relevant thing 0083 introduced was a specific event that precipitated the formation of the Titans. Which... wasn't really needed, it just felt like answering things that didn't need answering. Plus fuck Kou fuck Gato and especially fuck Nina.

That's true I guess, it's not like there's much choice if someone's going to watch the franchise in production order.

I know [E] likes Macross and 0083 is a little but like Macross Plus.
But yeah, ugh, Nina goddamn Purpleton...

oh, I did not mean you ahd come out as one, it was preempive so you would not avoid reccomending the crazy/not so great ones ( like Z I guess , I am watching that one after the trilogy movies).

talking aobut Z I noticed there is a Z movie, do I watch it after ZZ or just skip it if I watch the tv series ?

I would say Zeta is great (and perhaps even an all-time classic), but it seems to be somewhat decisive these days. It is pretty crazy, though! It's like, Tomino often has his characters behave in odd ways or say weird things, and some camps think it's a weakness (characters written poorly) or a strength (characters behaving realistically/irrationally, given the things they've experienced). I usually fall into the latter, but it's a pretty thin line, I guess.

The Zeta movies are a compilation trilogy made for Zeta's 20th anniversary. It has new footage mixed in with the old stuff (which is pretty off-putting) and it changes a bunch of things. Oh and theme songs by Gackt, who also starred in an incredibly cheesy/bizarre Gundam-themed music video. Unlike the first Gundam's movie trilogy, I don't think they work very well as a replacement to the series. They're basically an interesting curiosity and not much else.
