Personally, most Studio Ghibli films I find light-hearted or if not that, engrossing.

oh dude i SO loved this movie: i'm a sucker for hand camera type movies, even though it's been a trend for the past 10 years....but this one was very cool: maybe it was the cultural thing behind it, maybe just because it was a nerdy subject (trolls :) ) but i loved it!

EDIT: just to clarify: TrollHunter (english)/  Trolljegeren (norvegian)

"La Casa Muda", an Uruguayan horror film released in 2010 and directed by Gustavo Hernández

very excellent pace & atmosphere: the main thing (the buzz about it) is the fact that the entire movie is one single shot, think the "Goodfellas" scene when Ray Liotta and his girlfriend arrives at the restaurant, but for 1h30

Let's get a kaijuu movie in here.

Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris

You have to watch the first two movies to fully appreciate this one (namely for continuity and some references), but they're pretty good anyway and worth the a view. However this movie is superior to any other kaijuu movie I've watched. Yes, in my opinion, it's better than any of the Godzilla movies.

One thing that will surprise is that rather than focus on monsters destroying shit for two hours, it focuses on Ayana, a girl who witnessed her parents die when Gamera unintentionally destroyed a building fighting Gyaos in the first movie. Her anger drives a large part of the story, and while I don't want to give away too much of the story, expect a lot of gross-out and horror movie stuff to happen.

Needless to say, the ending is probably the darkest, yes best ending I've seen for one of these types of movies, leaving it open to the user's imagination. As much as I want to see what happens after (yes I know there's a 45-minute doujin movie that does just that, doesn't count), they couldn't have ended this trilogy better. I actually shed a tear watching it. My hat's off to you, Gamera.

On a sadder note, though, if you want to buy it and you live in America, the USA Blu-Ray release is terribly flawed. A large amount of subtitles are missing and/or mistranslated to the point of it looking like a Hong Kong bootleg. The dub isn't too bad if you want the picture quality to be high, but if you MUST watch with subtitles, you can hunt down ADV's old DVD release.

The Pit (1981)

"The Pit (1981) was filmed during a time when many films were made about the concept of evil children. In this Canadian Horror, Jamie is a 12 year old boy viewed upon as a bit of a outcast, and finds solace by talking to his Teddy bear, much to the chagrin of his parents, and babysitter who are beginning to think he may developing some serious psychological problems. So when he finds carnivorous ancient trolls living in a pit close to his home he keeps it a secret. He considers them friends and aids in feeding them by providing live victims, generally people who have been cruel to him.."

Oldboy (2003)

One of best korean movies I have seen. In fact proably best mystery/drama/thiller I ever seen in my life. You remember famous quote of Alfred Hitchcock who once said "The way to make a film is to begin with an earthquake and work up to a climax" ? That's exactly how this movie is made. You are literally thrown into mystery right away after beginning and from that point tension just goes higher & higher. I'm huge fan of thrillers and I've seen many of them. None so far was able beat Oldboy. Story is so well written, full of suprises, and there is some action too. Movie hold your attention from first to last second and that's really rare these days.

Rcomended to everyone. You will be stunned by quality of this movie I assure you. I never give any movie 10/10 but this one was very close.

9,5/10

make sure to watch the 2 others (Oldboy is the second movie) because they are part of a "trilogy" centered on the notion of vengeance ( Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance / Oldboy / Sympathy for Lady Vengeance): of course Oldboy will usually stand as the "best" one of the 3 but they all have something particular in their own way

I watched Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance (which is first party of Trilogy, Oldboy is second) some time ago and it was okay movie. It was bit confusing, there was much more drama and less mystery. Overall it was good. But it's very weak compared to Oldboy....

Still have to watch Sympathy to Lady Vengeance sometime later. All parts of "trilogy" are separated movies and theme of vengeance and sharing some actors, is the only things they have in common.
