This kid had a weapon on school grounds. Not good. I'm glad he defended himself, but he should've gotten in trouble for that.
This thread is producing a shitload of bad grammar, at this rate it'll be a disease.

It is not a weapon. It is a tool that becomes a weapon depending on the person who wields it.

After re-reading the article I'm convinced Dylan Nuno really deserved to die. Not only was a shitty person but also very fucking stupid, he kept pushing the fight after Saavedra announced he had a knife and no intention of fighting. Good riddance.

I still think there's something wrong with Jorge Saavedra.

Was this a planned fight?
It was planned (by the aggressor), but several bus stops further away, and the kid with the knife specifically got off early to avoid the fight.
The way I read it, the situation was the following : the bully with a bunch of friends in the bus kept telling the other kid that they'd beat the shit out of him at so-and-so bus stop (when the article says "several teens announced the fight on the bus", you know that's really a whole band of bullies almost chanting to the guy "the lot of us will beat you to death when we get off the bus" and "you're going to die"). The knife kid shows he has a knife. He gets off early to separate from the bullies. The bully gets off to follow and attacks him from behind.
You think the 12 stabs (not 15 or 14 according to that article) aren't explained just by that alone ? When you're being bullied for a while, and you're on the bus, with a bunch of assholes around you chanting "we'll beat you to death at that bus stop" ? I don't think you need to add that the kid was a psycho to stab the other guy 12 times.
If I struggled to the end of my determination, to the end of my way of life with my followers, if the result is ruin, then this ruin is inevitable. Grieve. Shed tears. But you cannot regret.

There are categories of weapons though. ... And fuck if I can find a list of these on Google without getting thousands of pages on Final Fantasy and TVTropes (aside from the one from '97 - I'm sure I remember things like katanas being reclassified as more than way down the list)
I know very well that fists can kill, but the law works with itself, if the school rule says no weapon, it's talking about firearms and knives, not scissors sharp enough to gouge eyes.

It is not a weapon. It is a tool that becomes a weapon depending on the person who wields it.
But it's still school policy.
A dumb one. Usually it states "no weapons," but come the fuck on, even a pencil is a weapon in the hands of a certain person. Hell, your FISTS are weapons if you decide to use them that way, too!
True and all but I think the fact that a knife is a weapon that EVERYONE can use makes it different than fists which only some people know how to make deadly, sure some kids can throw some punches but can't guarantee damage since the kid can be weak. I suppose a weapon gives the weak the power to hurt or kill.

yeah, that's why portugeese lazy drunk sailors were able to defeat the invicible samurai with ease. a school should not allow weapons, unless you have a special permit.

I'll tell you this; this isn't my way to stand up to a bully, but he's not wrong to stab the guy however many times. When you HATE someone, you aren't just gonna stab them once, you are going to fuck them up. Period. Now, I believe in the old bread n' butter, you get bullied you go to the gym and learn to fight but nothing's wrong with Jorge's way as long as he gets away with it.

Nice to know, though, that if my hypothetical son or daughter takes karate classes, I can tell him/her that if a bully every hits you, take his ass down.

Honestly Karate classes aren't all that effective. Karate is more like a hobby (And I mean karate, not mixed martial arts. Which is still considered "dishonorable fighting" in everyday life.), it can't stop bullying like people think it can. If your serious about physical self-defense you want boxing. It's a honorable way to handle your problems (Bully-related problems anyway) and a student will win the respect of many if they just take care of their problems like a man. Of course if you have a daughter well that varies. I doubt you could get just any girl to take any self-defense courses in the first place.

Self-defense doesn't mean stopping when they're down... it means stopping when you feel they are no longer a threat.
That sure worked well for Ender Wiggin, didn't it?

Are you fucking serious.

Are you seriously suggesting that we should be telling kids "hey, if you're bullied, just stab the bully!!! it'll be fine as long as you can get away with it!!!"?

it's always one kid who screws it up for the rest of the class. only in this case, replace kid with, "crazy guy who decided to use said tool as a weapon"

did you even read his post. it mentions nothing about using any weapons, and the "old bread n' butter" would mean YOUR FISTS

He's the protagonist of Ender's Game. He was in two similar situations; in fact, he said pretty much the same thing you did about making sure they are no longer a threat. Here's the quick version: Ender is bullied constantly by both bullies (one at the start of the novel, one near the end) and eventually gets into a confrontation with each bully. His inner monologue states how he wants to make sure they will not bother him again, that he needs to show them not to mess with him ever again. He winds up savagely beating both of them.
Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty
Keep in mind he is 6 at the time of the first bullying and... I dunno, 8 or 10 by the second.

There's a pretty big fucking difference between a pencil and knife, but Byakko and Oxe already covered that.

Did you? Read it again; it separates the "old bread n' butter" method from the stabbing.

Either way the way I would tell "our kids" to handle bullies is with their fists, go to the gym and eventually give them an ass whooping of a lifetime, after all, violence IS the only true way to deal with a bully (Unless someone moves, bully or bullied either one.). However stabbing them to death...it's justified. I feel like if you don't have any threat of endangering your future by doing so, and you just get away with it, why the hell not? I'm not going to tell you that you were wrong for it.
