Well, I've been finished with the sprites for a while, and Cyanide says that the coding should get done pretty quickly, so I figured I might as well make a WIP topic.Edit: Someone asked so, yes I did rip the sprites myself. I also fixed missing and damaged sprites. As previously stated, the character's name is Gig.Gig is the practically unheard of boss character of GG Dust Strikers for DS.He's a big scary demon bug angel thing. Here's some random animations:This looks wierd when repeated. Then of course the original:Spoiler, click to toggle visibiltyAfter Cy, finishes up coding, I just have to tweek a few things, so this should be a farily quick release.
OH GOD IT'S GIG...I played GGDS on a class trip - it was my friend's game. I think I fought against him for a bit, but I'm thinking that his horribly cheap, weird Gig-ness made my brain fry out the memory of it.Looks cool either way - I'm glad to know that someone else is willing to take on obscure characters for great justice.
looks cool. he looks like one of those big boss chars everyone loves. will he have some kind of super armor?
Oh Oz this looks interesting. I like how this Boss character looks. Looking forward to it man good luck...by the way what ever happened to The Man?
blunted said, September 19, 2008, 10:55:27 pmlooks cool. he looks like one of those big boss chars everyone loves. will he have some kind of super armor?Of course. His upper body is invincible, the lower portion can be damaged.Damage dealt to the lower body is not significant, but after a certain amount of damge is dealt to it, Gig dissolves, exposing it's soul.MooMaster The SexyBeast 666 said, September 19, 2008, 11:58:34 pmby the way what ever happened to The Man?He's still on the other computer, perhaps one of these days I'll transfer it when I come home.Zero-Sennin said, September 19, 2008, 10:54:19 pmI'm glad to know that someone else is willing to take on obscure characters for great justice. QuoteThe boss of Guilty Gear Dust Strikers, Gig is a massive insect-like creature with an angelic figure emerging from its tail. An undetailed and unusual character, Gig does not fight traditionally, but rather floats up and down firing projectiles and requires only basic knowledge of blocking to defeat with ease. This, coupled with the facts that he has virtually no story and is scarcely animated at all makes him an unpopular character. Gig is known to be a Gear of some sort, referred to as a male despite the female figure attached to him, and appears to be acting against his will.
Well, with a game as well known and established as GG, I felt it would be a pity to leave a character unused.I actually liked the fact that they included Gig in GGDS. Instead of using a previous boss (as I originally thought) they actually took the time to create something new and unexpected.Anyways, Cy really does make progress in leaps and bounds. Here are some of the latest updates, for those interested in the technical aspects:(in the words of Cyanide)Currently the player that takes damage is invisible, and just has a hitbox. It also manages all the movement. The helper itself is the sprites and provides a large hitbox that can be hit, but takes no damage. It also manages the attacks and stuff. I need to set up super armour for the parent as well and use a varadd method rather than time for how i have him moving.FF/BB = looping jumpup = hover up downa small hold on fwd then release will get a teleport, you can do this while doing the up down hover as wella(or X i forget my setup) will let you shoot fire.He flashes once when you actually hit him. This doesn't affect movement. The helper ignores EVERYTHING you throw at it. He also doesn't move the camera and can go off screen.
How does the blasted snake work? I've just replayed it and it hasn't come out, rest seems to be simple projectile shots. Large number of them, but, nothing special. Not even going to need helpers for some of them.Erm, do you use any instant messengers? Talking would make certain things at this point simpler.
I have AIM.The way the snake works is, during the bubble attack, if the bubble misses the opponent and makes it to the ground, it appears to soak in and dissolve. Then after a few seconds, or if the opponent moves on top of the space where the bubble landed (I could never get the attack to work enough times to make sure. I do know however that everytime I moved over the spot, the snake got me.) the snake explodes from the ground, causing damage, and dizzying if I remember correctly. If the bubble does hit the opponent, it bursts and causes damage.
Blade Galewind said, September 21, 2008, 03:59:47 pmGig is the most disgusting looking boss ever. Nah, it's cute.
This is one of the reasons I like mugen, you can face foes that comes out of now where. I will you best of luck with this Gig. off topic:he would look good in a old RPG game too :p
Noticed an extra frame in the 'helper for fake damage' animation. The first frame is repeated, making Gig pause during the animation.I fixed it, it doesn't really effect gameplay but I thought I'd give you the update.
Another large update:Nearly all projectiles have been implemented.'Soul mode' has been implemented: after taking a certain amount of damage Gig dissolves, and his soul floats around the stage open to attack. The teleport has been improved.Gig can now teleport backwards to move away from the opponent.Gig can now properly move off-stage.My editting program is not properly converting .pcx, hopefully I'll be able to post some screenshots before his release.

Tweaky slows me down much more than great swathes of code doing wierd shit.
Gig is finished, and is ready for at least a beta release.Updates adding sound/fixes will probably come later.
Well it is 'done'.The original character didn't have sound. (other than just generic hit sounds)But I know that some people prefer some noise, so I thought I might look around to see if anything fits. And more than likely, I'll notice something after the release, and I'll have to update. It's not unfinished.PS: nothing is ever 100%
oh ok.. i thought u were gonna released some unfinished character, but as i can see you just need sounds and stuff.
I gave him a product that could be considered a totally workable beta.Erm, did you wind up adding fake required sprites to it? If not send it back and i'll tack them in. they won't be used, but i'd prefer to kill the debug.
maybe some horror game sounds might fit, but I can only think of RE games, killer 7. Havn't played a lot of horror games.

Any progress with this? I haven't seen any news of it in a while. *is keeping track of Guilty Gear and BlazBlue mugen stuff*
IIRC Oz's PC died and he lost all his sounds, which he never forwarded on to me. I still have Gig on the site, but other than that, no.
If that's all you need is sounds, I'm sure I can find someone with Dust Strikers, just tell me how to rip them.

Blade Art said, February 08, 2010, 11:58:49 pmthere's a lot of angry boys in the guild Don't post "it dosen't look like guilty gear" if you don't know where that sprite comes from.Use google and then realise that what you said was stupid. Were not angry it's just it's annoying.
Um, the title is easy to read, he's just saying that it doesn't look like the common GG character, it's just an opinion. Niall, you didn't need to get involved. If he doesn't think it looks like guilty gear, then he doesn't think it looks like guilty gear. There's nothing wrong with saying "it doesn't look like guilty gear".On the other hand,"His design isn't even close to guilty gear" is simply an incorrect statement, as looking at the first page would have shown that the design was completely 'guilty gear'.But even then, he wasn't being rude really, just somewhat uninformed. Not a serious offence in my book.

Just a bit rude to post "His design isn't even close to guilty gear" when he could of used google or a popular fighting game bio website to find out. If I would of said it... Sorry for being bit harsh

Heh. This project's been 'finished' for about a year and a half.I'm a little shocked by the seemingly renewed interest.I really wasn't offended. It's cool.I just kind of wondered if you'de read the first post.
I only read the title and watched the pics cause I was slow and in a hurry if it's finished is there a download link?
